November 21, 2017 LAUNCH OF THE NATIONAL HOUSING STRATEGY The Government of Canada launches the first-ever National Housing Strategy (NHS), a 10-year, $40 billion plan to help reduce homelessness and improve the affordability, availability, and quality of housing for Canadians. As part of the NHS, Reaching Home: Canada's Homelessness Strategy, includes a commitment of $2.2 billion over 10 years to tackle homelessness. By 2021-22, this will double annual investments compared to 2015-16. Since its launch, Canada's National Housing Strategy has grown into a 10-year, $70-billion-plus plan that includes more than $12 billion committed through the 2020 Fall Economic Statement. April 13, 2018 $1.3 MILLION TO BUILD 16 UNITS FOR TWO LOCAL PROJECTS The Mount Community Centre's Shared Dreams program and Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services Corporation receive $1.3 million to build 16 housing units. • Shared Dreams Program at the Mount Community Centre $500,000 to help construct 5 units • Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services Corporation $800,000 to help construct 11 units Learnmore ➔
April 30, 2018 CANADA & ONTARIO SIGN ONTO FIRST BILATERAL AGREEMENT The 10-year agreement will invest more than $4.2 billion to protect, renew and expand social and community housing, and support Ontario's priorities related to housing repair, construction, and affordability. The governments of Canada and Ontario will also work together on the design and implementation of a new Canada Housing Benefit in Ontario. This new agreement marks the beginning of a partnership that will be supported by long-term and predictable funding starting April 1, 2019. This is a first-of-its kind progressive housing agreement that commits both governments to new and higher standards of transparency, public engagement, and housing quality, including improved energy efficiency and accessibility. The agreement also acknowledges the importance of prioritizing those most in need, the federal rights-based approach to housing, and applying gender-based analysis to investments. Learnmore ➔
Spring2018 $50,000 TO THE PETERBOROUGH HOUSING CORPORATION An investment of $50,000 in seed funding was made by the Government of Canada towards the planning Phase 2 of the new 81-unit McRae Building.
July 12, 2018 PETERBOROUGH HOUSING SUMMIT Held at The Mount Community Centre with M P Adam Vaughan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development. Roughly 65 participants including local agencies, service providers, developers, and elected officials on hand to discuss accessing funds through the National Housing Strategy and how to move forward on solving the housing and homelessness crisis in Peterborough-Kawartha. November 13, 2018 FOLLOW UP HOUSING ROUNTABLE Follow-up roundtable with MP Adam Vaughan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development The roundtable was an opportunity to give direct feedback on experiences by local housing providers around the National Housing Strategy.

July 23, 2019 RAPID RESPONSE TO HOMELESSNESS AND HOUSING SUMMIT Representatives from local agencies and service providers, along with developers and elected officials, reconvened at The Mount Community Centre a year after MP Monsef hosted an original housing summit. August 13, 2019 HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD IN PETERBOROUGH Formal announcement that Habitat for Humanity Peterborough will receive up to $3,183,250 in funding for construction of its Leahy's Lane project, a unique 41-unit condo building meeting universal design standards. The project is Habitat for Humanity Peterborough's largest multi-residential build and will serve as a model that can be rolled out to other Habitats across the country. Learnmore ➔
August 13, 2019 PETERBOROUGH MEETING ON HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS MP Monsef participates in the City of Peterborough's community meeting housing and homelessness. City of Peterborough staff gave an overview on the housing and homelessness situation including people living in parks. Staff also provided an update on the work being doing through the shelter system as well as park bylaws and how that impacts people who are living rough. Learnmore ➔
December 19, 2019 AGREEMENT WIT H ONTARIO ON CANADA HOUSING BENEFIT The Government of Canada and Government of Ontario agreement allows for direct affordability support to community members who are in housing need through the Canada Housing Benefit. 66 The best thing about the benefit is that it is portable. A recipient can take the benefit and use it throughout Ontario. That gives them the mobility and the freedom to pursue new dreams and ambitions and to not be stuck in a particular community or situation. January 14, 2020 MP MONSEF HOSTS MEETING FOR LOCAL HOUSING STAKEHOLDERS MP Monsef convened local housing stakeholders as part of a series of meetings focused on building housing in Peterborough-Kawartha. Represented at the meeting was the Peterborough Housing Corporation, Kawartha Participation Projects, Habitat for Humanity, Y ES Shelter for Youth and Families, The Mount Community Centre, Fleming College, Trent University, St. Giles and St. Stephen's Presbyterian Churches, Peterborough Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, as wel I as City of Peterborough Mayor Diane Therrien and Councillors Keith Riel and Henry Clarke, and Selwyn Mayor Andy Mitchell. February 20, 2020 MP MONSEF HOSTS TECHNICAL BRIEFING AND Q&A MP Monsef's office hosted a technical briefing for interested local housing providers and developers on the funding programs available through the National Housing Strategy, and how to access the federal funds to build housing in Peterborough-Kawartha. Nadia Venafro, an Affordable Housing Specialist from CMHC, detailed elements of Canada's National Housing Strategy including the National Co-Investment Fund, Rental Construction Financing and the Affordable Housing Innovation Fund during a two-hour meeting at the Peterborough Lions Club Community Centre. August 25, 2020 GOVERNMENT OF CANADA INVESTS $7.6 MILLION INTO 3789 WATER ST. BUILD Formal announcement that the Government of Canada is financing $7.6 million to help construct 25 residential units located at 3789 Water Street in Peterborough. The development includes a unique partnership with Kawartha Participation Projects (KPP), who wil I provide management of the building. KPP provides housing services and supports to people with physical disabilities living in Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton and Northumberland. Five units in the development have been earmarked for KPP clients and wil I be designed to meet the accessibility needs of tenants. Learnmore ➔
September 21, 2020 ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RAPID HOUSING INITIATIVE The Government of Canada announced a $1 billion Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) to help address urgent housing needs of vulnerable Canadians by rapidly creating new affordable housing. RHI funding is available to municipalities, provinces, territories, Indigenous governing bodies and organizations, and non-profit organizations. It is expected that all funds will be committed by March 31, 2021. Funding will cover the construction of modular housing, as well as the acquisition of land, and the conversion of existing buildings to affordable housing. For example, a municipality could use the funds to purchase old hotels and repurpose them into transitional or supportive housing. Learnmore ➔
November 13, 2020 RA PID HOUSING INITIATIVE COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDER ROUNDTABLE MP Monsef hosted local developers, service providers, elected officials, non-profits, and those with lived experience, for an online roundtable detailing the Government of Canada's new Rapid Housing Initiative and facilitating applications for Peterborough-Kawartha. MP Adam Vaughan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, and Nadia Venafro, Specialist, Multi-Unit Housing Solutions for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, were in attendance to answer technical questions regarding the submission of applications to the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI). February 5, 2021 $8.5 MILLION TO HELP CONSTRUCT A 3-STOREY, 27-UNIT RENTAL BUILDING The 888 Whitefield Drive development by Parkview Homes is receiving financing through the Government of Canada's Rental Construction Financing initiative (RC Fi), a National Housing Strategy program delivered by CMHC that supports rental housing construction projects. The program encourages a stable supply of rental housing for middle-class families struggling in expensive housing markets. Learnmore ➔
February 12, 2021 $14 MILLION TO HELP CONSTRUCT 46 UNITS FOR FAMILIES IN PETERBOROUGH This second phase of the 378 9 Water Street development by Greenleaf/Car-Plan is receiving financing through C M HC's Rental Construction Financing initiative (RC Fi), a National Housing Strategy program that supports rental housing construction projects. The program encourages a stable supply of rental housing for middle-class families struggling in expensive housing markets. Learnmore ➔
May6,2021 $3.5 MILLION TO HELP CONSTRUCT 2 HOUSING PROJECTS, 58 UNITS Of the total investment, $2.5 million helped fund a 34-unit complex for individuals and women-led families in Peterborough which also includes a daycare. $1 million of the total investment helped build a 24-unit complex in Havelock that provides affordable housing for seniors and serves as a community hub, with health services and supports located on-site. June 7,2021 $18.4 MILLION TO CONSTRUCT MORE RENTAL HOUSING IN PETERBOROUGH Sawmill Residence, developed by Ashburnham Realty, is a 6-storey residential building that will provide Peterborough with 64 new units of much needed rental housing close to public transit, retai I services, and a health care center. The project received funding through CMHC's Rental Construction Financing initiative (RCFi), a National Housing Strategy program that supports rental housing construction projects to encourage a stable supply of rental housing for middle-class families in expensive housing markets. SUMMARY I n addition to the funding listed above, the federal government continues to provide ongoing support for hundreds of units in Peterborough-Kawartha through direct federal subsidies to help make units more affordable for those in need of assistance. I n total, since 2015, the Government of Canada has invested more than $65 million to help renovate, subsidize, and construct more than 1,700 units in 2018 2021 Peterborough-Kawartha.
LOOKING FORWARD MP Monsef continues to work with community partners to build more housing in Peterborough- Kawartha. The Peterborough Housing Corporation plans to construct nearly 1,100 new housing units and redevelop over 300 units over the next decade. MP Monsef is actively engaged in bringing this project forward and ensuring federal support is available.
