Hillside News—Fountain Hill May 2021 In Light of the Cross Has life been challenging this year? Do you struggle to find hope? Does life seem overwhelming? This passage from John 14 can change the way we view life, “16I will ask the Father, and he will give you another ad- vocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you” (NIV). Something amazing happened when Jesus died on the cross. The curtain that hung in the temple, that separated the area where God’s Spirit dwelt from the rest of the temple, was torn in two when He died on the cross. Do you know what this means?!? We now have the opportunity for the Holy Spirit of God to dwell within our hearts. May 23, 2021 is Pentecost Sunday. This day occurs fifty days after Jesus was resurrected from the dead. Jesus promised the disciples that He would send His Spirit to dwell in them and give them power. That day occurred on Pentecost, which you can read about in Acts chapter two. On that day, the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) filled one hundred and twenty of Jesus’ followers. This same Spirit is available to us today! How does life take on new meaning in light of the cross? We can now have the Holy Spirit of God living and dwelling within us. His Spirit can now lead and guide us, help us through everything we face, bring us encouragement, joy, purpose – a renewed purpose. Jesus said that the Spirit will not only help us but will be with us forever. The Apostle Peter said, those who have the Holy Spirit have a deposit that guarantees our Salvation. This is all possible in light of the cross. Through Jesus’ death on a cross and resurrection on the cross, we now have the opportunity for salvation. This salvation in Christ, and the indwelling of His Holy Spirit, is only possible – In Light of the Cross! Chaplain Philip Baker – Cedarbrook Allentown 7
Hillside News—Fountain Hill May 2021 Cedarbrook Fountain Hill Hillside News *Funded by Lehigh county tax payer dollars* Although we discourage residents from keeping money and valuables in their room, we realize that many of you will choose to do so. Therefore, we would like to offer these tips to help you keep your money and valuables safe from loss or theft. Since you have access to the money in your account during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, we suggest that you only withdraw the amount you need for immediate use. If you need larger sums of money, for gifts or to reimburse your family members for purchases made on your behalf, we suggest that you contact Financial Services to arrange for payment by check. If you choose to keep money and valuables in your room, we highly recommend that you secure such items in the locked drawer of your bedside cabinet. Keep your key with you, or keep your key out of sight in a safe place. As soon as you realize that your money or property is missing, it is important to report it immediately to the Charge Nurse. Cedarbrook will not assume responsibility for replacing missing property kept by residents on their person or in their room. However, we will take action to investigate. And try to recover your property, if possible. Finally, we ask that you help us maintain a current inventory of your personal property.
