Highlights of a tentative agreement between Unifor and Pratt & Whitney Canada December 2021 Sisters, Brothers, I can honestly say that we faced many challenges heading into this round of bargaining. Considering the diverging priorities due to the different generations represented in our membership, not to mention the impact of COVID-19, we knew it was not going to be an easy ride. That is why I am all the more proud to be able to present you with an agreement that largely meets your expectations. For one thing, we were able to obtain the early retirement windows, which is no small feat in these times of severe labour shortages. A second key point for you was wages, and here again we succeeded in negotiating good salary increases. Thirdly, we were able to meet several demands for more flexibility in certain provisions of the collective agreement. Finally, the employer’s commitment to replace retiring employees, which was one of our demands, is a crucial point for securing the future of our plants. Message of the Plant It’s fair to say that we have succeeded in meeting your priorities while also positioning the Committee Chairperson company favourably in terms of ensuring the sustainability of our jobs. And all this despite the fact that the industry has not yet fully recovered from the effects of the pandemic. DANIEL GUY In closing, I want to thank you all sincerely for your incredible solidarity during our negotiations. You have no idea how helpful it is for us when you participate in our solidarity Highlights activities. I would also like to thank the members of the Mobilization Committee for their commitment. And, finally, a special thank you to all the members of the Bargaining Committee. It is by working together that we are able to obtain the type of gains we won Retirement windows in this round of bargaining. –––––––– Solidarity! UNIFOR LOCAL 510/PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA DECEMBER 2021 Sisters, Brothers, Many of you probably know me by now, as this is my third time participating as a president in the renewal of your group’s collective agreement. But for those of you who aren’t already aware of the fact, my first job was actually at De Havilland Aircraft in Ontario, so I come from the aerospace sector. As such, I have a deep attachment to this industry and I am quite familiar with it. And believe me when I say that I have been extremely worried these past few months due to the great harm inflicted on the aerospace sector by this terrible pandemic. In fact, I was personally involved in lobbying the governments to demand support for this key industry for the Quebec and Canadian economy. Despite the challenging context, I can say with certainty that your Bargaining Committee has once again done a great job of negotiating a very good agreement. Message of the National President of Unifor In addition to gains at the level of the pension plan, salary, benefits and many others, I’d JERRY DIAS like to highlight Pratt & Whitney’s pledge to invest $160 million in the company. The green engine project is particularly exciting because this is exactly the kind of program that will sustain jobs here at home. I want to congratulate the members of your Bargaining Committee. I am honoured to have worked alongside them to reach this agreement. Thanks to their commitment to you, their determination and their activism, we have once again succeeded in obtaining improvements to your living and working conditions. It is in this spirit that I join with the Bargaining Committee in recommending that you approve this tentative agreement.
