Celebrating 40 Years of Serving You! From 40 years of serving our community to 40 more of exceeding the expectations! As we come to a close on our 40th anniversary year, we can’t help but stop and reflect back not only on this past year of celebrations, but also on the past 40 years of love, laughter, and friendships. As we embark on our next year, and all the years after to come, we use the past to help us grow into an even brighter future. Since the beginning, Fayette Senior Services has been an integral part of this community, but what really makes this possible is the support we receive from everyone around us. We may be the ones connecting the dots, but the individuals volunteering and engaging in membership, the home bound seniors we serve, the local government and officials, organizations that help provide resources, and so many more make it possible for us to do what we do each and every day. As we’ve said before, Fayette Senior Service came to life in 1978 with one goal in mind – to serve seniors in Fayette County and to provide them with the needed resources to age well and live well independently in their homes. We take pride in knowing that day in and day out we are succeeding in this vision that sparked to life so long ago. We strive to be an organization that others can depend on, be it as a home bound person in need or an active person to have a place to engage with others and stay involved. To so many, FSS serves as a lifeline, a resource for connection within the community, a place for many to call their second home and a form of support and comfort during some of the most exciting or most challenging times of their lives. From serving just a few seniors in need of a little extra help just 40 years ago, we have expanded into so much more! Our Meals on Wheels program delivers nearly 56,000 meals per a year and has no wait list for clients requesting delivery, the transportation program has grown from 1 vehicle in the fleet to 12 traveling on average 250,000+ miles per year, and a membership count that has grown from just 30 people to over 2,000+ active members today. This is in addition to the many social services that have been maintained and added throughout the years to include the STARS Congregate program, In-home services, Care Management, Ani-meals and more. FSS President and CEO Nancy Meaders treasures her time here and shares her gratitude for everyone who has been involved. “In the 19 years I’ve worked here, the FSS landscape has undergone many changes. The staff at FSS is passionate about our mission of serving seniors and it’s evident in everything we do. We’ve expanded our services to meet the growing demand of individuals, and we’ve had amazing support from our community. What a great partnership and a great first 40 years it’s been! But, we don’t believe in resting on our laurels so we are poised to meet the next challenge head on and continue to provide for the seniors in Fayette County,” expressed Meaders. To take a look into our past and see where we started to where 40 years has brought us to is a treasure we will always value, but our focus will be on the next 40 years and beyond. We make it a promise to continue to grow, to find new and innovative ways to stay connected, and to serve those in our community the absolute best way we can. We will make it our priority to continue to meet the needs of those we serve and play a significant role in the lives of seniors, engaging and encouraging them to age well and live well long into their golden years. FSS is honored to serve and call this community our home and we are excited to grow as the needs of seniors develop in the future. Thank you to everyone for an amazing 40 years and here is to the next 40 and beyond! We couldn’t do it without you all! 40th Anniversary Sponsors: 770-461-0813 | FAYSS.ORG June 2019 | 9

From Our Kitchen Summer Watermelon Salad Executive Chef Heather Hampton shares a delicious recipe to try at home.
