2021-2022 SCHEDULING Required Classes English * 4 Credits Math* 4 Credits Science 3 Credits Social Studies* 4 Credits Computers 1 Credit P.E. I/Health 1 Credit World Language 1-2 Credit Visual, Performing, Applied Arts 1 Credit * Must be taken during Senior Year
• 31 Total credits class of 2022 through 2024 = 4 credit buffer • You earn 9 credits per year (when modified blocks are offered) • Class of 2022 and beyond must also take an English class their senior year
Course Levels • You must pass each core/required class in order to move to the next class. • Classes that require teacher authorization will be flagged until your counselor goes in to okay it. • Advanced Placement (AP): Most challenging courses at HCHS, college level. Note: Once you select an AP class you will NOT be allowed to drop it during schedule changes in the fall!
Post-Secondary Planning • College admission officers want to see a solid foundation of learning that you can build on in college, and some prefer A.P. prior to Dual Enroll. • To ready yourself for college-level work, enroll in challenging high school courses, such as AP courses. • Consider your strengths and interests and enroll in classes to help develop your marketable skills.
High School Classes Colleges Look For… • English: Challenge yourself to improve your writing, reading comprehension and vocabulary. • Math: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Pre Calculus • Science: Colleges prefer 4 years of Science. • Foreign Languages: A solid foreign language study shows you are willing to stretch beyond the basics.
Required English Courses ● English I ● English II ● English III or LIT COMP 1 ● English IV** or LIT COMP 2 ○ SENIORS: all Seniors must request Eng 4 (or L&C2) if not taken already-- even if you still need to complete earlier English sections. Talk to your Counselor.
English Electives ● Reading for Enjoyment ● Yearbook ● Drama and Theatre ● Speech/Debate ● Forensics ● AP Lit and Comp These electives are options to fulfill Senior English requirement if you have finished ENG 1-4 already.
Mathematics Sequencing ● Algebra 1 ● Geometry ● Algebra II ● Math Related Course Senior Year
Senior Math Options (must be taken senior year) ● PreCalc/Calculus/AP Calculus ● KCC Math courses ● Any CACC course ● HCHS Courses include: Culinary Arts, Accounting, Marketings, Career/Personal Development, Business, Design Exploration, Machine Woods, Chemistry II, Physics, Forensic Science, Intro to Programming and Coding
Required Science Courses • General Physical Science • General Biology • Chemistry OR Physics (typically jr yr)
Science Electives: These are electives and cannot replace any required science course. • Anatomy • Forensic Science • AP Biology • AP Chemistry
Required Social Studies Courses • American History • Civics/Economics • World History • Senior Social Studies If you love History: AP Government AP U.S. History
Social Studies Electives • AP US History (full year) • AP Government (semester) • Psychology (semester) • 3rd block Electives: ○ Abnormal Psychology ○ Social Psychology ○ Visual History ○ Alternative History

Dual Enrollment • Students may take college courses for college and high school credit. Classes that are offered at HC must be taken here first--you must plan ahead. ○ Meet with your counselor if you are interested in taking college courses ○ HC will pay for class, fees, books • If you drop the course after drop date, or fail the course, student pays for class • Registration for KCC opens on June 1st
Dual Enrollment • Paperwork for Dual Enrollment located in Counseling Office • MUST have all paperwork in to Counselor by May 19th. • When scheduling for 2021-22 school year, pick OUT OF SCHOOL COLLEGE S1 and/or S2.
Calhoun Area Career Center Students interested in attending the CACC please pick up application from the guidance office. Due March 1
E 20/20 Be sure to review your transcript. If you need make up a credit so you can graduate on time before sure to sign up to see your counselor for E 20/20 information. Each E 20/20 class is $75.00
