Hello to all of my Fun & Adventure Seeking Friends, 2018 is here and with that we bring you a brand new line-up of fun places for you to experience. . In 2017 we saw places like Iceland, The Great Lakes, Yellowstone, Scotland, Phila- delphia and Italy. We cruised to Alaska, the Hawaiian Islands and the Mexican Riviera. I didnt think we could top all that we did last year but I do believe this year will be our best travel year yet. From 1-2 day trips around the Pacific Northwest to 7 - 10 day adventures around the world, again we have a little something for every- body A big thank you goes out to my faithful hosts, June Everly, Marla Raptcheff, Roxie Carter, Marlene Copass and Phyllis Bardwell. These ladies help make our trips a huge success. This year we will be continuing with the Trip registration program. I am so happy this has worked as well as it has. Great job to everyone! In this book you will find a registration form, this will help so that you can take your time, go through the book and fill in the trips that you want. After you have made your choice(s), total the amount you will be paying for each trip, whether it be just a deposit or the full amount. If you are mailing your registration in, enclose your payment with either a check or your credit card information, do not send cash. There are 4 ways to register for your trips; 1. You can mail it in, Your receipts /itineraries will be mailed back to you 2. Drop your completed registration by the Harman Center 3. Make an appointment and we can go over your registration together. Appointments will start January 2nd, 2018 Monday through Friday from 9:30am - 3:30pm. 4. By Phone – you can call and leave a message anytime. All messages will be returned in the order they were received and within 48 hours. To schedule an appt... TO ALL OUR TRAVELERS We have teamed up with Travel Insured International, Inc. You can get insurance on all your trips. As soon as you pay the deposit you can either call 1-800-243-3174 or visit www.travelinsured.com to sign up for travel insurance. The price varies by destination and the traveler’s age. If you are not insured and you must cancel your trip before the deadline, all that would be lost is the $10 nonre- fundable or transferable office cost. If you do not obtain insurance and you must cancel after the deadline there will be no refund due to reservations and costs that are already paid and out of our control. All of the deadlines are on the itinerary. Wheelchairs are sometimes available to take on the tours. Hosts and drivers are not responsible for pushing the wheelchair or being a personal care provider. The bus is not wheelchair accessible. SPECIAL TRIP NOTICES DEADLINES: Most tickets and reservations for seats and accommodations need to be prepaid and purchased well in advance. For this reason we have deadlines that need to be adhered to. All deadlines are listed under each trips description in your Trip & Tour Book. You may call after the date to see if any seats are still available. ALL Payments are due 30 days prior to the date of the trip, (except when noted otherwise). NO EXCEPTIONS. REFUND POLICY: Refunds minus the deposit will be issued if cancellation is made before the deadline date. If you find you cannot make a trip after the deadline, you may donate your trip to someone else or sell it to another. Please contact Lori Schatz and she will assist you with this. If the Harman Center has to cancel a trip, a full refund will be issued. Please remember it takes 15 to 30 days for a refund to be fully generated. RULES AND REGULATIONS: For all Trips or Tours, a completed registration form plus a de- posit or full payment is required before your name can be placed on the seating chart. Registra- tion forms are available in the back of this book or at the Harman Center front desk. MYSTERY TRIP DISCLAIMER: Please Note: If you are considering a mystery trip, please be prepared for any situation example: motion sickness, mobility, medication needs... We are not at liberty to disclose any part of the adventure due to the nature of these trips. TRAVELING WITH A FRIEND: If you are traveling with a friend and want to room or sit to- gether on the bus, please make sure you make your appointment together or have their registra- tion form and deposit with you when you come in. WHY SIGN UP EARLY? Restaurants need up to 4 weeks notice and at least 4 months notice for hotels so they can plan ahead and help us provide an enjoyable and smooth running program. We have actually can- celed tours that didn’t have enough going, just to find out that someone had “intended” to sign- up. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: As interesting destinations come up during the year, we may plan additional tours. The best way to stay informed on all of our trips and tours is to subscribe to the Harman Center Quarterly Newsletter. 2018 Travel Northwest Flower and Garden Show Thur. February 8, 2018 The Northwest Flower & Garden Show is an annual exhibition of horticulture and everything gardening held in Seattle, USA, for five days each February. It is the largest garden show west of Philadelphia and is regarded as the second largest garden show in the country. The show fea- tures lush, fully built display gardens, over 100 educational and entertaining seminars, and a gar- den marketplace exclusively for plants, gardening supplies, botanical art, vintage garden art and locally sourced artisan gourmet foods - the largest Marketplace of any garden show in the U.S. Walking: as much or as little as you would like. Sternwheeler Brunch Cruise Through Ice Harbor Dam Sat. April 28, 2018 Back, once again, by popular demand. Since this trip sold out early last year and the year before, we wanted to offer it this year. This is a 5.5 hour cruise on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Whale Watch & Wild Cards Sun. Aug. 5 - Tues. Aug. 7, 2018 Come enjoy the adventure of tracking the Orca’s of the San Juan Islands. Just being out on the water with the wind in your hair and the anticipation of spotting whales is fun but when you see them, it takes your breath away. There is never a guarantee but we have encountered them more than not! We also visit Friday Harbor for a couple of hours and then back on the ship to cruise some more. We will be on the Victorian Star which is one of the largest vessels in the San Juan fleet with indoor and outdoor seating for everyone. Lunch will be served onboard. Alaskan Cruise featuring Denali National Park Fri. Aug. 31 - Sun. Sept. 9, 2018 This year we are doing something new! First we will motorcoach to Seattle where we will fly from SeaTac airport to Vancouver BC. There we will embark with Celebrity Cruiseline on the Celebrity Millennium and travel up the inside passage stopping in Ketchikan, Icy Point, Juneau, Skagway and Hubbard Glacier. We will then debark in Seward Alaska and travel by motor- coach to Anchorage for a city tour and then off to Denali to spend 2 days experiencing its over- powering magnificence in a range of optional activities. We will then return to Anchorage by rail for a day to spend as you wish. Their hospitality, history and wonderful home baked bread alone make this a great trip but top it off with the delicious lunch they prepare for us and you have the makings of a success- ful and fun getaway. Sign up as soon as you can because this trip sells out fast! The Hutterites have asked us to split our group into 2 dates in order to better serve us. Each date will have 50 seats only. Nashville and Branson Fri. Oct 12 - Thurs. Oct. 18 This trip was so much fun the first time around, we are offering it again. We start this adventure off by flying from Seattle to Nashville where we will be staying at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Resort. This property which features 9 acres of indoor botanical gardens under a climate controlled glass atrium, complete with rivers, pathways and waterfalls. Staying here is worth the price of the trip in itself! It is truly amazing! While in Nashville we will visit and tour the Country Music Hall of Fame and see the Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline Museum. We will attend a show at the Grand Ole Opry, visit the home of Andrew Jackson and take a city tour of Nashville. On day 4, we head via Motor Coach from Nashville, TN through Kentucky to Branson, MO. Christmas at the Grotto - Portland Fri. Dec. 7 – Sat. Dec. 8, 2018 This will be a brand new Christmas tradition for the Harman Center, The Christmas Lights at the Grotto in Portland, OR. This 2 day trip will take us to the amazing Grotto and the beautiful light display they do there. The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights is the largest Christmas choral festival in the world. The festival features nearly 160 indoor holiday concerts performed by many of the region’s fin- est school, church and civic choirs offering a family-oriented blend of traditional celebration and serene reflection. The festival theme reflects the special season of hope that Christmas of- fers to many thousands of families from around the Pacific Northwest. Holiday foods and beverages are also available, as is seasonal shopping in The Grotto Gift Shop. GENERAL INFORMATION Quarterly Newsletter Harman Center publishes a newsletter quarterly detailing upcoming activities. The newsletter includes trips, classes, activities, meetings, clubs, meals, health services and social services. Contact the Harman Center for subscription information. Subscriptions are currently $12.00 per year. Cancellation Policy The Harman Center reserves the right to cancel any tour which does not fill. In that event, a full refund will be sent to each participant. We also understand that it might become necessary for a participant to cancel their tour. Complete cancellation/refund policies, including dates, are printed on each trip itinerary. Refunds take between 15 and 30 days to process. Parking The Harman Center is not responsible for cars that are left at the Harman Center parking lot while attending one of the Trips & Tours. The Harman Center would encourage you to find a ride to the Center for overnight or extended trips. Tour Hosts Volunteer hosts accompany most Harman Center tours. The hosts ensure that the tour runs as close to schedule as possible, that you are as comfortable as possible and they will handle any problems that might come up during the tour. Hosts are not personal care providers, they are overseeing the trip only. Tipping You are responsible for tipping at restaurants when eating “on your own” meals. When meals are included, the tips are also included. Trips do fill, so don’t delay — register today! What’s Included? At the end of each tour description there is a list of what is included in your registration fee. It is customary for us to include a continental breakfast for morning departures, travel accommodations, major sight-seeing, some meals and tour host. Deposits/Final Payments For one-day tours, a deposit or the full payment is due at the time of registration. For overnight tours, a deposit amount is listed. Final payment due date is listed on the itinerary for each tour. How Old Do I Have to Be? The Harman Center plans opportunities for people 55 years and over, however there are exceptions. Adults under 55 can participate by contacting the trip & tour coordinator at 576-6405. Special Requests/Overnight Tours We request all nonsmoking rooms, please let us know if you prefer a smoking room. It is customary to request one bed per room for married couples, please let us know if you prefer two beds. 23
GENERAL INFORMATION Room Arrangements The prices for overnight tours are based on double occupancy (two people sharing a room). If you wish to have your own room, or share your room with three or more people, please contact the Tour Coordinator at 576-6405 for registration fee. Need a Roommate? Please remember roommates are just that, someone to share your room with. They are not care- takers or best friends. Singles will be matched for seating on the bus. Singles should be ready and willing to share a seat as most departures run completely full. Dress Code Please make sure you dress according to the weather. It is always better to bring a coat or sweater and not need it, than it is to be without one when it is cold. Please, no perfumes or colognes on the coach, many people are allergic to scents. Seating If you desire or require an additional seat on the bus in order to ride comfortably, you will be charged for the additional seat. RELEASE OF LIABILITY: I waive all rights and release all claims that might be held against the City of Ya- kima, Parks and Recreation Division, its hired or contracted instructors or volunteers, and their employees and agents for any and all injuries or losses which may be suffered because of my participation in the above activity offered by the City of Yakima Parks and Recreation Division.
