Abigail Minick Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine My name is Abigail Minick and this is Bailey, my market hog. I would like to invite you to attend the Mother Lode Fair’s Virtual Junior Livestock Auction. I am 11 years old and this is my second year in the Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Club. In the last 4 months, most of my time has been put into many hours of feeding, watering, exercising and grooming Bailey to get him ready for showing and selling, and now the live fair is canceled. He has been fed the best diet and taken very good care of, while I have been gaining knowledge of excellent care of livestock. Profits from my sale of him with good toward my market hog for next year, for school supplies next year, and into m college savings account for my future education. I would be so thankful for your support. Thank you! For more information and buyer preregistration, please visit motherlodefair.org. Virtual bidding opens July 3 at 3 PM and starts closing July 5 at 9 AM.
Addison Rose Maguire Sonora FFA Hello, my name is Addison Rose Maguire and I'm a sophomore at Sonora Union High School as well as a member of the Sonora FFA chapter for the past 2 years. I began raising project animals at age 9 showing as an independent exhibitor, later joining the Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H club. This year marks my 6th year at the Motherlode Fair. For your consideration I have raised a Boer goat that currently weighs 76lbs. I've enjoyed raising my goat and I love how he’s always waiting for me with a smile. Yes he does smile at me. Although It will definitely be hard to see him go, the funds earned from his sale will go towards the costs of his feed and relate supplies. Any left over proceeds will go into my savings for the purchase of next year's animal and my future. This year’s auction is both bittersweet as I will truly miss our wonderful community gathering together as we have done in previous years. . On the other hand I’m truly very grateful that our Fair Superintendent and staff have managed to provide us with a Livestock auction.. Market Goats will be sold at the Mother Lode Fair virtual livestock auction, July 3-5. To pre- register as a buyer, please go to https://motherlode.fairwire.com/. I thank you for your consideration! Sincerely Addison Rose Maguire
Alana Black Summerville FFA Dear Agriculture Supporter, My name is Alana Black and I am a 14 year old freshman at Summerville Union High School in Tuolumne. This is my first year as a member The National FFA Organization. I have been very active in the Agriculture Department, taking full advantage of all the leadership and career development opportunities available to me through the organization. Next year, I will be serving as the 2020-2021 Summerville FFA Reporter on the officer team. This year, I am raising and showing a market swine for the Mother Lode Fair for the first time. My project began on March 9th when I traveled to pick up my pig. Since then, I have put in hours and hours of work in managing my project to make sure I can present a healthy, beautiful animal. This experience has taught me time management, responsibility, and financial organization. I have worked diligently to find rides to and from the farm to tend to my pig, and take the time to thoroughly brush/wash him to keep him healthy and walk him daily to build muscle for a finished carcass. I take pride in raising my animal to be a wholesome food product for a local community member. That is why since day one I have fed him Showrite Feed. I began with 19 g and have transitioned him into Showrite 17 g. My swine, who I have named Boulder, is a Yorkshire/blue butt cross and was bred by Gardner Family Farms. When it comes time for processing, I estimate my swine to be around 250-265 lbs. Situations this year have been different due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The physical Mother Lode Fair and auction have been canceled but there will be an online auction. I would be beyond grateful for any support that you might be willing to give me and fellow FFA members of our chapter, by either putting add-ons on kids projects or even just taking a look at the online auction. I would like to say thank you for taking the time to read this letter as I know that your time is valuable. I know that our community has a strong tradition of supporting the agriculture youth of our county and we are very fortunate as FFA members to have this support. If you have any questions about the online Junior Livestock Auction or how to become a buyer, please contact the fairgrounds at 209-532-7428. The profits that I earn from the sale of my market swine will go towards my future SAE projects, my college fund, and a truck for transportation. I plan to go to college in either Wyoming or Montana to earn a degree in Agriculture Science. Again, thank you for your support and I hope to hear back from you. Alana Black
Alexander Horat Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine Hello, my name is Alexander Horat and this is my first year raising a market hog. This year, I am raising a Hampshire and her name is Dutchess. She ahs been raised on a very beautiful field since March 14, 2020, where she gets to walk and run around everyday. A well constructed shelter complete with an automatic watering and feeding system has been in place to make sure she is always well fed and hydrated. My goal has been to raise a happy and healthy hog.
Ashleigh Esquivel Summerville FFA Hello my name is Ashleigh Esquivel, I am 17 years old and will be a Senior at Summerville Union High School. I am actively involved with FFA, Softball and Cheer. My plan after high school is to attend college with my saved money. This will be my third year attending the Motherlode Fair but this year I will be bringing 2 animals to fair with me. My project this year is a Market Swine and Goat. My pig is a Female Black Cross, Her name is Ember. I have purchased her from Gardner Family Farms for $425. Over the last few months I have been working hard with Ember to get her ready for the fair. I have been feeding her Showrite 19g since I brought her home. My Goat is a Male Boar. His name is Egan. I purchased him from Cuneuo Farms for $300. I have also been working very hard with Egan to get him ready for this year's upcoming fair. I have been feeding Egan Barale Mac Goat and slowly have transitioned him to Showmaker Goat since he has come home. All of the money that I raise from doing both of my projects will be put towards paying back my loans for this year and the rest will be saved for college. This year I will be auctioning both my animals off July 3rd- 5th. I want to thank you and your business for supporting the Exhibitors at the fair each year and for taking time out of your busy day to come down to the auction and support our youth and our projects we have worked very hard to take care of and raise to provide food for families to enjoy. If you have any questions about the Mother Lode Fair or concerns regarding it please contact the Fair Office. Sincerely, Ashleigh Esquivel
Ashley Newman Foothill 4-H Swine Hello my name is Ashley Newman. I would like to invite you to the Mother Lode Fair Virtual Auction for Junior Livestock and Small Livestock. Let me tell you a little about myself. This would have been my 5th year of showing a goat and my 2nd year of showing a pig. I really enjoy showing and raising my animals. This is the first year that I bred my own market goat for fair. I am also in the .22 club. I enjoy all of my animals and being outside. I just graduated from 8th grade and can’t wait to start high school. I really like being with my family. My favorite things to do with them is going camping and being on the water with our kayaks. Due to COVID-19, the auction for goats, meat rabbits, pigs, lambs and steers has moved to be a virtual auction to continue to support my sister, myself and my fellow exhibitors. I would like to personally invite you to take part in this auction and to be a buyer. You can go to this website https://motherlode.fairwire.com and pre-register as a buyer. Or you can go to the Mother Lode Fair’s website and follow the instructions there. If you have any questions you can call the Fair Office at 209-532-7428 and there will be someone there during the auction that can help you. If you want to buy an animal but don’t want the whole thing you can find someone to go into the sale with you and share an animal. You just have one person doing all of the bidding. Also because of this year’s circumstances the Fair is allowing bump bids. This is where you can add to a person’s animals’ price without having to buy the whole animal. If you have any questions just call the number above. Thank you for supporting me and my other hard-working fellow exhibitors.
Austin Paris Foothill 4-H Swine Hi! My name is Austin Paris. I am 12 years old and just completed the 6th grade at Curtis Creek Academy. I am a 5th year 4-H member and a member of the Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Club. This year I am in the Swine, Rabbits, and LEGO Robotics projects. I have shown goats, pigs, or rabbits at the Mother Lode Fair for the past 4 years. Some of the awards I am most proud of are winning Senior Showmanship Pygmy Goats (‘18), Junior Showmanship Meat Goats (‘19), and 1st Place Small Livestock Display (‘19). When I’m not working with my animals I enjoy being in theater productions at SRT, playing video games, and riding my quad. This year I chose to raise a Duroc for my market hog. Durocs have a higher level of intermuscular fat which results in a marbling effect. They also have a slightly higher back fat which leads to making them tastier with a lower bite resistance. I am sure you will LOVE the bacon and chops from this pig! If you are interested in bidding on either of my market projects or any of my fellow exhibitors please visit www.motherlodefair.org. you can get all the information and pre-register as a buyer there. The Virtual Auction will be held 3 pm Friday, July 3rd – 9 am Sunday, July 5th. If you are interested in supporting an exhibitor like me but don’t want all the meat there are lots of options like splitting with a friend, or consigning the meat (not available for rabbits). You may also consider placing an “add-on” bid which will add a tax-deductible donation to the final sale price. Please feel free to contact the Fair office if you have any questions. Thank You!
Cameron Christie Sonora FFA Hello, I’m Cameron Christie. I’m 17 years old and I am a Sonora FFA member. Some things I enjoy doing are playing music, bike riding, skateboarding, fishing, and hunting. My career goals are animal health care and nutrition. This year I am showing my pig Sizzle, a Hampshire barrow. The Hampshire breed originated from areas around Northern England and Scotland and are known for being rapid growers and being muscular. They are medium sized pigs and very desirable for meat production. That’s because a Hampshire’s carcass is thick-skinned and lean. It doesn’t have as much back fat as other pigs, which is a great quality. There ends up being less waste and you get more meat. Hampshire pigs can be identified by the white stripe running down the front legs of the black body. By fair, I expect Sizzle to weigh around 255-265 lb. I have been feeding him three pounds of Showtime Feed Combat Hog Feed each meal. I walk him everyday to keep him healthy. By fair, I will have spent over 225 hours taking care of my pig. The money I receive from the auction will go straight to my college savings account. I will be very grateful if you would please consider participating in the auction and help me reach my future goals by buying my pig. Due to cancellation of the 2020 Mother Lode Fair, there will be an online auction using a program called ShoWorks. Buyer pre- registration is open now at https://motherlode.fairwire.com. Bidding opens July 3rd at 3 pm and closes Sunday July 5th at 9 am. This year, if you cannot purchase an animal, but would still like to contribute, you can give a “bump bid” of a specific amount through July 10th. I would be ever so thankful for your support. You can find more information about the online auction at https://motherlodefair.org or contact the Fair Office.

Corey Ketchem Summerville FFA Hi, my name is Corey Ketchem I am 16 years old and enrolled as a sophomore at Summerville high school. This is my second year as an FFA member at Summerville. I have a total of 5 years of raising swine experience. This year I am raising a Hampshire gilt that was bought from Gardner family farms in San Miguel back in March. My pig current weighs 244LBS. I expect her to weigh in the 260-270 range by the time of auction. I have fed 4 pounds of Showrite 17% each day split up into two different feeding periods. I also added a cup of protein pellets and oats to her daily feed to help the pig bulk up and fill out so when the time for fair arrives she will look good, but taste even better. Last year I invested the money that I earn from my swine project into a welder. I am hoping this year to earn enough money to go to school to become a welder. Due to COVID-19, The Mother Lode Fair Livestock Auctions have moved online for 2020. I would like to invite you to take part in this online auction. At this time Buyer pre-registration is now open on https://motherlode.fairwire.com . On mymotherlodefair.com site, you can find information on how the online auction will operate. Bidding will start Friday, July 3nd at 3 PM and will begin closing on Sunday, July 5th at 9 AM. If you have any more questions contact me by call, text, or email. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Corey Barret Ketchem
David (Ry) Atkins Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine My name is Ry Atkins and this is my second year as a member of the Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H, and my second year participating in the Tuolumne County Fair to sell my product, which is a pig. My pig’s name is Timmy and he is a Blue butt. I have spent quality time with Timmy the last four months. He has a good frame with heavy muscling and has not contracted any illnesses or complications. I believe his health is a direct result of a proper diet. For example, I fermented his feed with apple cider vinegar and water which functioned as a natural antibiotic to boost his immune system. Because of my homemade remedy I did not have to call my veterinarian for anything. I believe Timmy will compete really well and I would ike to invite you to the Mother Lode Fair to bid on my pig. Due to COVID-19 this year’s fair will be held online for a virtual bidding, held by the Mother Lode Fair, at ShoWorks on July 3rd beginning at 3 pm and will end July 5th at 9 am. Thank you for support during these unprecedented times. Sincerely, David (Ry) Atkins
Edward Horat Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine Hello, my name is Edward Horat and this is my first year raising a market pig. This year, I am raising a Yorkshire and her name is Piggy. Since March 14th, 2020, she has been raised on a large field where she gets to root and roam around freely. She sleeps in a well constructed shelter that I helped build with an automatic watering and feeding system so that she never lacks good nutrition and hydration. She is a happy and healthy pig and it has been a lot of fun raising her.
Emily Orpurt Sonora FFA Hello, my name is Emily Orpurt and I am 16 years old. I have been showing swine for 7 years and this is my 3rd year showing with Sonora High FFA. My Hampshire gilt, Suzie, will be virtually auctioned off with the Mother Lode Fair. Although I am very saddened we cannot have a live auction, I am very grateful for the virtual auction we will have. We will be using a website called ShoWorks. Go to https://motherlode.fairwire.com/buyerlogon.aspx to pre-register as a buyer. If you do not want to buy an animal, but put money towards a certain exhibitor, you will be able to “bump” or “add on” money to that specific kid and their project. I would like to thank all of the buyers that have stuck with us exhibitors during this tough time and welcome all of the new buyers.

Faith Hamilton Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine My name is Faith Hamilton and I am a Senior at Summerville High School. I played 4 years Volleyball, 4 years Powder Puff Football, 1 year Track and Soccer and did stats for Girls Basketball. In the fall I will be attending Columbia College where I plan to major in Agriculture and I hope to play on the Volleyball Team. This is my 9th year in 4-H where I am in my 4th year as a County Ambassador. My projects have included Swine, Community Service, BBQ Crew and Leadership. This year I have raised a Berkshire/Hampshire cross. She is well structured, full bodied and has a good spread of muscle with a small layer of fat for good flavoring of the meat.
Hosanna Atkins Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine My name is Hosanna Atkins, I am fourteen years old, and this is my second year participating in the Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Club. I recently graduated from Mother Lode Christian School and am going to attend Summerville High School this upcoming school year. This year I raised a male, Berkshire to sell at this year’s Mother Lode Fair, his name is Opie. I bought Opie from Golden State Genetics in Turlock, he was the first big purchase I made with last year’s Fair money. I feed him daily with Show 100, although I do not know his weight he has grown steadily and progressed enormously from when I first got him. Opie has a sweet demeanor and an easy temperament. He enjoys walks, loves to root around, adores attention, and likes to get wet. Opie’s frame is well proportioned between fat and muscle, creating a richly marbled meat, a delicious meal, and tender and juicy flavor to enjoy. I am positive that whoever buys my pig will not be disappointed. Participating in 4-H is a great way to experience the business world, learn to care for an animal that will one day be consumed, make new friends, and work hard to give back to the community as well as receiving from its generosity. Due to Covid-19 this year’s Mother Lode Fair will be held virtually on July 3rd starting at 9 am through July 5th ending at 9 am. Go online to bid and show support to our local 4-H members, and I encourage you to buy my pig!!! Thank you, Hosanna Atkins

Izabella Bolton Sonora FFA Hello, my name is Bella Bolton, I am 16 years old and currently attending Sonora High School for my junior year. This is my second year in FFA raising a market hog for the Mother Lode County Fair. While in FFA besides raising my market hog, I have also attended leadership conferences. This year I raised a spunky, social, and energetic blue butt hog named Albey. Raising Albey has been a life changing opportunity that I am looking forward to doing again next year with another hog. This year due to the Covid-19 pandemic I will not be able to show my hog at the Mother Lode County Fair. Although I am very upset to not be able to truly experience my second year of showing my market hog, I am extremely grateful to have the Mother Lode Virtual Livestock Auction. It will begin July 3, 2020 at 3 PM and go through July 5, 2020 at 9 AM. You can preregister as a buyer at motherlode.fairwire.com. If you are unable to purchase an animal but would still like to help and donate you can login to motherlode.fairwire.com and choose ADD-ON. This gives you the option to donate any amount towards all livestock that is being auctioned. You have until July 10th to add on any bids. Thank you all for your time and consideration.
Jack Callahan Foothill 4-H Swine Dear Livestock Buyer, My name is Jack Callahan, and I would like to thank you for supporting the Mother Lode Fair Junior Livestock Auction. This is my 6th year in Foothill 4-H, and I am 15 years old. I have raised a Hampshire Cross Swine this year, and she is a great looking pig! I went to a really good breeder this year, Ottenwalter Showpigs, and picked out a top quality show pig. She has been eating well, is right on track with her weight gain, and loves her baths. Even though we aren’t able to physically show our project animals this year, I have still been working on showmanship, and she shows well and has a great walk. Raising pigs for 4-H has been something that I have always enjoyed, and find it a very rewarding experience. Each year, I feel that I improve in my knowledge and in my animal husbandry skills. I would like to invite you to the 2020 Mother Lode Fair Virtual Auction, July 3-5! Your participation and support is greatly appreciated by the youth in our community, who have worked so hard to raise a market animal for fair! Thank you for your continued support. And even though we won’t be there in person, it has been made possible to bid on livestock during the Virtual Auction. Please go to www.motherlodefair.org for information on how to join the virtual auction and pre-register. There is also an option of add-on bids this year. This is an option for people who are not wanting to actually bid on and purchase the animal, but are interested in adding on a donation to an exhibitor. I am very proud to be a part of 4-H. It is such a wonderful organization and with so much community involvement, and have always been honored to take part in the Mother Lode Fair. It is the highlight of summer! Thank you for your time, and I greatly appreciate your contribution to making this a great auction for the local 4-H and FFA kids. Sincerely, Jack Callahan

Jacob Taylor Sonora FFA Dear Potential Buyer, My name is Jacob Taylor and I am a 16 year old junior at Sonora Union High School. I am a Varsity captain for the football team and actively involved in our FFA chapter. I recently got into showmanship but I have learned to love it. This is my second year raising a pig for the Mother Lode Fair. This year, I raised Meatball. He is a Hamp/Duroc cross and my best friend. In all the years I’ve been around livestock, I have never seen a hog quite like this one. Not only does he have the personality of the perfect pet, his structure is immaculate. Throughout the time I’ve had Meatball, I learned more than I ever thought possible. Not just about him, but pigs in general. They are some of the smartest animals you can raise and they love being around you. My favorite part of this project was watching him transform into the hog he is today. He started out smaller than the rest, but as soon as we started working together, that all changed. Although I won’t get to show him at the fair this year, I believe he has more to offer than the rets with his build and personality alone. I am writing to invite you to the Mother Lode online sale for livestock. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be able to have a fair or regular livestock sale. However, we are all still passionate about our animals and we hope to see you there! Buyer pre-registration is available at https://motherlode.fairwire.com. Information on how the auction will work as well as any other related information can be found there. Bidding begins Friday, July 3rd at 3 PM and closes Sunday, July 5th at 9 AM Thank you for your support! Jacob Taylor

This is my first year in FFA and my first year raising market swin. I plan to be involved in FFA for the rest of high school and all throughout college. My first year in FFA was such a good experience and I can’t wait for the next years to come. Since we have had this unfortunate pandemic, our fair will be held online. The online auction can be found at https://motherlodefair.org/. I hope you will join us and support the FFA kids during these difficult times. Thank you, Jazmine Mullins
Jeffrey Paris Foothill 4-H Swine Hi, my name is J.J. Paris. I am a 5th year 4-H member and am in the Tuolumne Pioneers club. I am 14 years old and will be starting High School at connections in the fall. I have been showing goats and swine at the Mother Lode Fair for the past 4 years. Last year I was honored to be awarded the 4-H Outstanding Livestock Exhibitor award at Fair. I have also been proud to show my pygmy goat Izmay for the past 4 years earning 2 reserve and 2 grand champion awards. I am disappointed to not be able to bring my goats to the Fair this year but I am very glad I will still be able to sell my market hog at the Virtual Livestock Auction. When I’m not taking care of my animals I like to rock clib, ride motorcycles and watch YouTube videos. For the Fair this year I have raised a Yorkshire gilt. The Yorkshire is a good meat producer with a higher percentage of lean meat. I have been feeding Show-rite 17.5% feed and walking my pig daily. I expect her to weigh in at the top of the range, around 280#. I am very proud of this year’s hog and know she will produce a great product for your freezer! If you are interested in bidding on my pig or any of my fellow exhibitors please visit www.motherlodefair.org. You can get all the information and pre-register as a buyer there. The Virtual Auction will be held 3 pm Friday, July 3rd – 9 am Sunday, July 5th. If you are interested in supporting an exhibitor like me but don’t want all the meat there are lots of options like splitting with a friend, or consigning the meat. You may also consider placing an “add-on” bid which will add a tax-deductible donation to the final sale price. Please feel free to contact the Fair Office if you have any questions. Thank you!
Jenna Abbott Groveland 4-H Swine Hi, my name is Jenna Abbot and I am 14 years old. I am going into the 9th grade this year. I am in the Groveland Highlanders 4- H club and this is my 6th year in 4-H raising and showing swine at the Mother Lode Fair. I really enjoy raising and showing pigs for the fair. Raising a pig takes responsibility, which I enjoy. It is challenging and hard, but it’s definitely worth it, so please show your support through these hard times by checking out the Mother Lode Fair Online Livestock Auction. Thank you so much and I hope you’ll show your support this year.
Jillian Ferreira Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine My name is Jillian Ferreira. I am 10 years old and just finished the 5th grade at Sonora Elementary. This is my first year in the Tuolumne Pioneers Swine project. I had a pig last year, but was not old enough to show at the fair. This is my Yorkshire, Tiki. He loves to be scratched behind the ears, on top of his head and be loved on. His favorite food is carrots. Tiki has been a good pig when going out on walks. He is always excited to see me and runs back and forth in his pen, snorting because he is so happy. I was looking forward to attending the fair with Tiki this year so I could show him in showmanship, but I’m not sure how I would have done because Tiki is so playful! I have been working very hard to get Tiki in show condition. He has been raised with love and homegrown pork is better than storebought. I invite you to the 2020 Mother Lode Virtual Auction for 4-H starting Friday, July 3 at 3 pm until Sunday, July 5th at 9 am. You may also consider placing an “ADD-ON” bid which is still tax deductible. You could even partner with many people and split all that meat!! Thank you for taking time to check out Tiki and during this different year I hope you are able to attend the 2020 Mother Lode Virtual Auction. Thank you for taking the time to consider bidding on my fair pig and for supporting Tuolumne County 4-H.

I also understand that some business have been able to open, so I appreciate you taking time to look at my flyer. I invite you to the 2020 Mother Lode Virtual Auction for 4-H starting Friday, July 3 at 3pm until Sunday, July 5 at 9am. You may also consider placing an “ADD-ON” bid which is still tax deductible. Online bidding only!
Joshua Trott Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine Hello my name is Joshua Trott and I am raising a Hampshire market hog named Enchilada. I am 10 years old and this is my first year in 4-H. I am part of the Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Club. This is also my first year in the swine project. I feed my pig high quality show feed with no added hormones, steroids or antibiotics. I am very proud of how my first pig is turning out, and as a buyer I think you will be very pleased with this quality product. Due to the fair being cancelled this year, the livestock auction will be online and I want to invite you to be a part of this great opportunity to purchase some high quality meat and support a great organization. The really great thing is that you can bid from wherever you are and don’t have to attend in person! I hope you will considering bidding on my pig. There is also an “Add-On” feature this year, where you can choose to support my project without having to bid on or purchase my pig, but just want to support me in my swine project. More info is available at www.motherlodefair.org. If you have any questions, or would like to know more about my project, you can contact the Fair Office.

I have been learning how to show him using a whip, he has learned quickly and is showing well. His diet consists of Show Rite feed and probiotics. I have learned so much this year and I was so excited to show my first pig; I am sad the fair has been canceled. I would like to invite you to virtually bid on my pig through ShoWorks. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic I will not be able to show Bee, but I have been given the opportunity to sell her virtually through the Mother Lode Fair. The online auction will begin on Friday July 3rd at 3 pm and begin closing Sunday July 5th at 9 am. I am excited to participate and hope that you all get the time to log on! Thank you all for your support! Auction registration link: https://motherlode.fairwire.com/
Krystal Newman Foothill 4-H Swine Hello my name is Krystal Newman. I would like to invite you to the Mother Lode Fair Virtual Auction for Junior Livestock and Small Livestock. Let me tell you a little about myself. This would have been my 2nd year of showing a goat and my 2nd year of showing a pig. I really enjoy showing and raising my animals. This is the first year that I bred my own market goat for fair. My favorite goat is my Pygmy goat, Pearl. I like being outside and looking for rocks. I will be starting the 7th grade next year at Columbia Elementary. I really like being with my family. My favorite things to do with them is going camping and being on the water with our kayaks. When I’m not outside searching for rocks or fossils I am inside reading anything I can get my hands on.

Livia Shaw Independent Hi, my name is Livia Shaw and I go to Mother Lode Adventist Junior Academy. I am 11 years old and in 5th grade. This is my third year showing swine independently. My passions in life are animals, playing with clay, sewing, bicycling, and playing with my younger cousins. Raising pigs for fair has taught me lots of responsibility, time management, and commitment. This year, I chose to raise a Red Hampshire gilt; I named her Ginger. She is an energetic, red and white pig that is nice and lean. She can be quite stubborn and it has taken some practice with the whip to get her show ready. Her diet consists of Modesto Millings Organic hog feed. This year we chose to pay a little more and upgrade the feed to organic. I care for my pig several times throughout the day by feeding her, cleaning her pen and making sure she gets plenty of exercise. I am very sad that with the current situation of Covid-19 I will not be able to take my pig to fair and participate in showing her and presenting her in the live auction. This year will be something new for everyone so I would like to invite you to virtually bid on my pig through ShoWorks. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to contact the Fair Office.

Madisyn Anderson Sonora FFA Let me introduce to you Melvin my market hog that I purchased and raised for the 2020 Mother Lode Fair. Melvin is a blue butt breed which is a cross between a Hampshire and a Yorkshire. I purchased him in March with funds from my previous market hog project. This is where our journey together began. I am very proud of our progress, Melvin is very healthy and has had an average daily gain of 2.10 pounds. With fair getting closer we have carefully adjusted his amount of feed and he will weigh between 250-260 for our July auction. I am confident that he is a quality market hog & I am proud to auction him off. About me, my name is Madisyn Anderson. I am 17 years old and currently a junior at Sonora High School. I am a 3 year member of the Sonora High FFA chapter. Some of my highlights have been participating in opening and closing speaking competitions, raising market hogs and I proudly received my state degree at the beginning of this year. I am one of the varsity cheer captains and looking forward to my senior year. This is my 3rd year raising market hogs for the Mother Lode Fair. I love our community and I love our fair, as you know this year looks much different as we will be having a virtual auction. Thank you for your support!
Maryn Costa Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine Hi, my name is Maryn Cost! I would like to introduce myself and my animal that I’m selling at the Mother Lode Fair Online Auction. I just finished 8th grade at Soulsbyville School. I’ve been in Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H club for four years. The past three years, I’ve been a club officer and achieved my bronze and silver star. I’m a Junior Leader for my swine group, too. The last two years I received the Sue Moore, Young Leader Award. In school, I ran cross country, played volleyball, had a 4.0, was in Leadership and was Secretary for Student Council. This year, our auction will be a virtual/online auction. Buyers can now register at motherlodefair.org. The auction will begin on 7/3 at 3 pm and end on 7/5 at 9 am. This year, I will be selling my pig, Missy, and I have worked hard getting her ready for the auction. Everyday I walk her, feed her twice a day, make sure she has water, and keep her pen clean. I haven’t found a way to make a pig that only produces bacon but I have found a way to make sure I give you the healthiest pig possible with no antibiotics and raised in a safe, loving environment. I know these are tough times for businesses, so this year the fair is using an “add-on” option. An “add-on” is a way to support an exhibitor, for all their hard work, with a smaller donation. Thank you for your time and I hope you consider supporting me by purchasing my pig to fill your freezer full of delicious cuts of meat. Should you have any further questions, you can contact the Fair Office.

When I was younger my family raised swine to eat and I fell in love with pigs. This year I chose a cross breed gilt and her name is “Piggy Smalls.” She loves to get brushed and playing in the mud. Her diet consisted of Show Rite Feed and occasionally a sweet treat of watermelon. I have learned so much this year and I can’t wait to continue learning in the years to come. Due to the COVID-19, the Mother Lode Fair Livestock Auction has moved ONLINE for 2020. I would like to invite you to take part in the online auction. Buyers can pre-register through the link on the Mother Lode Fair home page www.motherlodefair.org. Information on how the online auction will work is also on the website. Parker Treat Foothill 4-H Swine Hi, my name is Parker Treat. I am 12 years old. This is my fourth year in 4-H. I am in the shooting and swine projects. This was my first year in the shooting project. I really learned a lot about gun safety and how to shoot well. This year is my fourth year in raising a pig. I am raising a Hampshire cross, named Phoebe. I work with her every day. 4-H has taught me a lot of responsibility and life skills that I can use all throughout my life. I really like being in 4-H because it is fun, I meet new people every year and it is hard work that pays off. I would like to invite you to the virtual junior livestock auction that starts on July 3rd to the 5th. Regan Thornton Sonora FFA Hello! My name is Regan Thornton, I am 17 years old and I attend Sonora Union High School. I am a Varsity Cheer Captain and member of the California Scholarship Federation. This is also my third year as a member of the Sonora High FFA and my second year raising a market swine and taking it to auction. My pig is named Reed. He is a Yorkshire, Hampshire, Duroc mix – tricolor. Since March 4th, when I first purchased Reed, I have learned and gained more knowledge on how to properly care for swine. This includes big responsibilities, such as providing clean and dry housing during months of pouring rain, nutrition which includes giving Reed quality feed and mixes, administering medication for deworming, and daily grooming and handling. My ultimate goal was to provide a safe, wholesome, high quality product for future consumers. As the time gets closer, I would like to formally invite you to the 2020 Mother Lode Virtual Junior Livestock Auction. The auction will begin online, July 3rd at 3 pm and the closing auction will take place on July 5th at 9 am. Through these tough times I totally understand that businesses, as well as individuals, may not be able to contribute, so Mother Lode Fair will be offering Add-Ons; this is an additional donation that would boost an exhibitor’s animal ending sale price. The Add-On donations can be placed on any lot until July 10th. Please visit www.motherlodefair.org if you would like to register as a buyer to bid or to place an Add-On donation. Thank you for your time and consideration!

Rylie Baughn Summerville FFA My name is Rylie Baughn and I am a sophomore at Summerville High School. I have been an active member of the Summerville FFA Chapter since the beginning of my freshman year of high school. My experience in FFA has allowed me to discover my passion for leadership in the agricultural community and I cannot wait for many more opportunities to come. This is my second year raising a pig for the Mother Lode Fair. This year, I am raising a Duroc named “Nugget.” I am asking for the support of local community members such as yourself in this years’ Mother Lode Fair virtual livestock auction. During my two years of raising pigs, I have learned to build a strong work ethic, responsibly care for animals, and even how to budget and market my animal. Some of my favorite experiences I have had this year were definitely bonding with my pig and helping first-year members. I have worked very hard on every aspect of raising my pig. Every day I go to the barn for at least an hour to ensure my pig is getting the best care possible so that I can produce a great market product. This includes cleaning my pen, providing him with prime nutrition, exercising, and grooming my pig. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Mother Lode Fair was forced to make the difficult decision of canceling the fair for the first time in over twenty years. Fortunately, livestock exhibitors will still have the opportunity to sell our project animals in the first Virtual Auction. I ask that you please consider supporting myself and other youth in Tuolumne County by purchasing livestock in the auction. All funds that I earn from the sale will go towards future projects and my college fund. Next year, I am hoping to raise another pig and possibly a market goat. The auction will open on Friday, July 3rd, at approx. 3pm, and the lots will close on Sunday, July 5th, at approx. 9am. This can be accessed on www.motherlodefair.org. There will be instructions on the website that will make it easy to access the auction. I will also attach a proxy form to this letter if you do not have internet access or would rather have a paper form to bid with. I do understand this year’s financial constraints; you can also team up with another buyer and split an animal. Additionally, there will be add-on bids (closing on July 15th) this year if you are interested in supporting anyone without having to take home an animal. Please keep in mind that all livestock purchases and add-ons are tax deductible and support the local youth in our community as we work hard to gain important life skills. For more information you can text or email me at (209)768-7998 and ryliebaughn@gmail.com, or follow my FFA Instagram account @nuggetbaughn where you can learn more about pigs and see mine as he grows up. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this. I really hope you can attend! I hope you and your family are doing well. Stay safe. Thank you, Rylie Baughn
Sahara Farkas Foothill 4-H Swine Hi, my name is Sahara Farkas, I am 12 years old and have been doing 4-H for 4 years now. 4-H is an organized group that encourages kids and teens to engage in hands-on activities like science, agriculture, and many other things. I am raising swine for 4-H. A normal routine for raising pigs would consist of feeding twice a day, walking the pig twice a day, cleaning their pen, and many other things, and would end in a fair and auction, but due to COVID-19 we are not having a fair and will be selling our animals on an online auction. My pig weighs about 225 now and is gaining about 2 pounds a day and will approximately weigh 275 pounds by the auction. The auction will start at 3 pm on Friday July 3rd and will end on Sunday July 5th at 9 am. Buyers can register at www.motherlodefair.org. If you have any further questions on registering or the online process call the Fair Office at 209-532-7428. Thank you, Sahara Farkas Foothill 4-H

In the past, I’ve competed in speaking competitions and attended many leadership conferences. This year I decided to raise a market hog to auction off at the county fair. My pig’s name is Snyder. The overall goal for my project is to produce good products for future buyers while keeping Snyder happy and healthy. As you may know, the annual Mother Lode Fair and Livestock Auction has been cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19. as a first year participant in the Mother Lode auction, I was saddened to hear that I wouldn’t be able to experience the joys that the fair has to offer. Timothy Grider Tuolumne Pioneers 4-H Swine My name is Timothy, I am 11 years old and I just finished the 5th grade at Gold Rush Charter School. I am writing to invite you to this year’s virtual online Mother Lode Fair Auction. It will start on Friday, July 3rd, 2020 approximately at 3 pm and continue until Sunday, July 5th, 2020 at 9 am. This is my second year in 4-Y and first year raising an animal. I will be auctioning off my Pig “Frankie” this year. She is a good pig. Since the coronavirus shut down school and sports, I have had a lot of time for Frankie. I have been working very hard every single day to make sure she is watered, fed, walked and happy. My favorite part is taking her out of her pen and letting her lay in her mud pit I made for her. She rolls around in it. You can tell she is a happy pig. This is my first year showing an animal and I am very sad I will not be able to go to the real fair with her. I am still excited to show her and sell her at the online auction. I will be very sad to see her go, the money that I will receive from selling my pig will go to paying my parents back and saving for next year’s animal. If I have any extra I would like to spend a little on a bike and save for college. I hope that you will be able to attend the auction by logging onto https://motherlodefair.org/ and supporting me on July 3rd-5th, 2020. Don’t forget your support is tax deductible. Follow my project on Facebook – Timothy Grider’s 4-H Market Animal. Best Regards, Timothy Grider

Tyler Karpus Foothill 4-H Swine Hi, my name is Tyler Karpus and I go to Motherlode Christian School. I am 12 years old and in 7th grade. This is my fourth year in the Foothill 4-H Swine Group. My hobbies are baseball, basketball, dirt bike riding, hiking, fishing, hunting, backpacking, and building. 4-H has helped me learn how to be a better leader in my community and how to raise a market hog for fair. This year, I chose to do a Hampshire gilt; her name is Chopper. She is a calm, black and white pig with lots of muscle. She is very responsive to the show whip and is easy to show. This year my goal is to get 1st or 2nd in showmanship and 1st in my market class. Her diet consists of Show Rite feed and probiotics. This is the first pig I have had that will not stop eating its food. How funny is that! I have been walking, washing, and caring for my pig each day. I am so sad that I will not be able to show my skills in the showring this year at the fair and see all the buyers during the live auction. I would like to invite you to virtually bid on my pig through ShoWorks. I will be contacting you again as the fair approaches with more information about how the virtual auction will work. I want to help make the process of bidding online as easy as I can for you. Any questions please contact the Fair Office.
