I read on the beach. I read on my front porch in the evenings. I’ve found that my attention span is not This is where the church must be different. F or those of you who were able to join us for our first annual Out- door Concert, you already know the evening was a suc- cess. As I looked around at the fami- lies and individuals who came to the concert I was struck by the fact that people were genu- inely enjoying the music, the food, and the fellowship; and throw in a picture perfect evening of weather, and we were indeed blessed. This concert marked the official debut of CrossRoads Praise Band which is comprised primarily of the musi- Gene and Saundra Malone cians from Hicks United Methodist Church that lead our contemporary worship music each Sunday morning. Our Spotlight: Gene Malone: expanded vision for the Band is to use our musical tal- ents as an outreach to impact those who may not cur- rently be active in a church. Mission successes and needs were received, including a strong support for the End Hun- ger Now campaign. The Stewardship Foundation report was received - whose economic consultant indicated optimistic fortunes forthcoming. The budget was passed, which amounts to almost $12.5 million now, including the equitable salaries recom- mendation for a 3% increase, and they approved the report on liability and insurance, in which our own Dick Fruth has a great part. There was a resolution on mental health observances and programs passed which was chaired by our own Rev. Evie Madison. You will also get a chance to participate in a hands-on mission project, through a program called Operation Kid-to-Kid, that will let our community show God’s love to chil- dren in India. Throughout these sonally was very pleased with the amount of people that showed their support for Ryder McDermitt and his family.
