Facebook The Left Handed Cook opened its doors at 2901 Honolulu Avenue in late 2018. Owned and operated by husband and wife team Thomas Kim and Kat Melgaard, this mom-and-pop restaurant serves up globally influenced street food. Menu items include the Rice Rice Baby and the Muscles from Brussels. Holding a perfect five-star rating out of 84 reviews on Yelp, and already on the radar of the likes of Eater LA and Hoodline, The Left Handed Cook is fast becoming one of the most interesting and dynamic additions to the local restaurant scene. We caught up with Kat below: Favorite dish on the menu: "My current favorite dish is The Chop Sandwich. It's tempura fried soft shell crab chopped and mixed with avocado, onion, and our Thai mayo on top of Patis Vinaigrette dressed arugula all between a brioche bun. It's crunchy, creamy, tangy, and buttery. It's served with our triple cooked House Cut Fries." What inspires our food: "Our 'New American' food is inspired by the amazing flavors, ingredients, and techniques used globally, which could literally mean down Honolulu Avenue or on the other side of the world. We try to use the inspiration of unique cultural dishes to create something familiar, comforting, and original to our guests." Favorite hangout spot in Glendale/Montrose: "For a quick, warming and satisfying bite, we've really been enjoying AJ Noodles at 4121 Pennsylvania."
