l The GBREC continues to monitor regulation changes and local mandates to ensure the safety of our participants and members while attending the facilities and our programs. l The Recreation Commission has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. l The Recreation Commission recommends that Masks be worn. Social distancing 6 ft. guidelines should be followed without masking. l Sports spectators/fans/500 + indoor event spectators maybe limited and adhear to mask or attendance guidance by county, state, federal, KRPA, KSHSSA as notified. DROP-IN MEMBERSHIP PROCEDURES The Rec Center and Activity Center are open for individuals wanting to walk or play basketball, but we ask participants to first get a free membership card from our front desk upon entering our buildings. GBREC PO Box 353 Great Bend, KS 67530 Scholarships Residents of USD#428 school district meeting certain guidelines maybe eligible for scholarship assistance for their children ages 18 and younger. If approved, scholarship funds cover 50% of the program fee and applicants are asked to pay the remaining balance. Some activities are exempt from the scholarship program. Application 620.793.3755 forms must be submitted 5 business days prior to registering at GBRec Office. Recipients 620.792.3838 fax must attend 75% of activity. T-shirt fee not covered by scholarships. Registrations & Cancellations We ask you to register at least (4) four business days prior to start dates to prevent cancellations due to low enrollment. Fees are due at the time of registration. We reserve the right to cancel, combine, or divide activities based upon enrollment. Information is subject to change regarding times, dates, locations and instructors. Check our website & Facebook for updates. Refunds Refund requests must be made 24 hours prior to the scheduled starting date of https://greatbendrec.com/contact/ the activity. Refunds not granted after that time. No pro-rated refunds. There is a $5.00 service charge on all refunds. T-shirts cost will be reduced from the activity fee if applicable. No refunds on Wellness memberships, and trips. Team fees refunds will be allowed if request is made prior to the registration deadline. Wait List If class or team has met its maximum enrollment, patrons have the option to add a name to the wait list. Should a spot open, you will be contacted. Patrons cannot be enrolled in a program and be on a waitlist for another session of the same program. Photography/Video Great Bend Rec reserves the right to use all photographs and video of participants for promotional purposes, including print, digital, and social media FACEBOOK FRIEND: promotions. GREATBENDREC Lost & Found Items of value are kept for one (1) month and than donated to a local, non-profit agency. Water bottles are not kept. Class Attendance Sorry, children are not allowed to attend classes with their parents. Siblings of class participants are not permitted in teaching areas. IMAGINATION PLAYGROUND Bring your tots and enjoy yourself at the GBRC Activity Center. These free drop-in activities are recommended for children ages 2 and older. All children MUST be accompanied by an adult 18 and older. Morning Hours are 9:30 – 11:00 am on the first and third Wednesdays: October 6th, 20th, November 3rd, 17th, December 1st, 15th, January 5th, and 19th. TODDLER ART A fun introductory class in creativity! Preschoolers will create a variety of art projects. Assist your child in discovering their talents. A parent or grandparent needs to accompany each child to class. Donna Krug, Cottonwood District FCS Agent, will also have a StoryWalk set up that day for you to walk through and read a story to your child. This is a free drop-in program that a parent MARSH UNDER THE MOON or grandparent needs to accompany child to. You’ve seen Cheyenne Bottoms in the daytime, but what happens when the sun goes down, and the moon rises over our marsh? Register with an adult to come out to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center for an evening of spider sniffing, bat detection, and LITTLE ZOO CRITTERS checking out the eye shine of various wetland animals. Fluorescence (emission of light) Meet us at the Great Bend-Brit Spaugh Zoo and learn all about different animals. Zoo occurs frequently in nature in some minerals and in many biological forms. We’ll check staff will show us some of the fun animals they have at the zoo. We’re also going to out some examples and play some of our own glow-in-the-dark games! Participants will be making a fun craft project each time. A parent or grandparent needs to accompany roast hot dogs and enjoy smores in the KWEC fire pit. We’ll spend much of the program each child to class. outdoors, so dress for the weather and wear closed toed shoes. BIRDS: THE MASTERS OF ADAPTATION Birds are masters at adaptation. We can learn a lot by looking at their beaks and feet. Learn how you can determine what type of habitat a bird lives in and what food it eats through a fun hands-on activity using tools to mimic beak sizes and shapes. We’ll build birds with different features and determine what adaptations they are best suited for. Looking at mounts of common Cheyenne Bottoms birds, we’ll sculpt our own birds to take home. FALL CHEYENNE BOTTOMS TOUR Cheyenne Bottoms is the largest marsh in the interior of the United States. Take a driving tour around our wetland looking for birds like the American White Pelican, Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret, American Avocet and more! We will also walk out on the dike roads to really immerse ourselves into the habitat. Wear closed toed sturdy shoes. On the hikes, we will collect insects and plants to identify and look at under microscopes. A brief visit to the Kansas Wetlands Education Center will kick-start our adventure. AGES 3-15 NATURE WILD ABOUT KANSAS 2021 PHOTO CONTEST The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks are proud to announce the annual “Wild About Kansas” photo contest. This contest showcases Kansas outdoors through the lens of amateur and professional photographers. Participate and show us what makes you Wild About Kansas. Wild About Kansas is open both to residents and non- residents of any age. Photos must be the participant’s original work and must have been taken in the state of Kansas. Photos from participants under the age of 18 will be placed in the youth division. All others will compete in the adult division. The contest is divided into five categories: Game Species, Non-games Species, Landscapes, Out- door Recreation and Hunting and Fishing. Participants can submit up to three photos total.
