He is, of course, one of many stellar young talents to commit to City, joining the likes of Leroy Sané, Gabriel Jesus and Marlos Moreno... England international Stones penned a six- year deal which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until at least 2022 and by that time, the Yorkshire-born 22-year-old is tipped to be one of the world greats. Though as a grounded youngster having served his apprenticeship, he knows the really hard work is just beginning… Stones spent more than three years at Everton where he built a reputation as a classy centre- half who always seems to have time on the ball. SHOWCASE #1 Club photographer Victoria Haydn shares some of her favourite shots and memories... As this is first Showcase, I wanted to take you back to the first shot I took at the club. I was at my Wythenshawe apartment at the time and with my hungry tummy rumbling I placed a tray of potato smiley faces in the oven (how good were these!?) My phone rang and it was our editor-in-chief, Chris Bailey, to tell me that thenthen club photographer Sharon Latham was still away travelling with the team so could I head to the Etihad Stadium and photograph a new signing. The smileys had to wait! I drove to the stadium as fast as I could and was introduced to the wonderful Jack Rodwell. What a gentleman! And what a pleasure he was to photograph. Using my camera that saw me though college, my Canon 1DS, I snapped away loving every second. I may have shot it differently now, but photographing Jack behind the scenes was the best part of the day and having it as my first image taken at City was a proud moment. I had a lot to learn but this was the start of my journey… O F F I C IA L MATC HDAY PROGRAMME

Everyone knows he is one of the most innovative Raheem Sterling and successful coaches there has even been and I for one can’t wait to sit back and enjoy the next few seasons. We must accept, however, that he is not here to wave a magic wand. Everything isn’t going to perfect in the first two months of him being here. We will not see his preferred best starting XI and the evolution of tactics until we get into the season. One thing for sure is that if I was still playing I would be listening intently to what he has to say, hanging on every word and making sure I carried out his instructions to the maximum of my ability. I think there is no doubt he can improve every player in the squad whether that be in terms of technique, application, tactical awareness or all of those things. O F F I C IA L MATC HDAY PROGRAMME

John Stones is another exciting young exciting season. English talent who will improve immeasurably for working with Pep. So will Leroy Sané who has the kind of pace no defender in the world like to face. I have no doubts about all of them being better players and wiser players at the end of the season. I am sure that Sam Allardyce – in his capacity as the new England manager – will be taking in plenty of City games this season. He will also be watching to see if Fabian Delph blossoms after an injury-hit start to his career at the Etihad. Certainly the former Villa man has looked super fit in pre-season. I don’t know much about some of the other signings but if they have Pep’s seal of approval then they must be part of the grand plan and who are we to question that?! Of course it’s important to get off to the best possible start, stay in touch at the top of the Premier League table and earn a place in the group stages of the Champions League. All that starts today against a Sunderland side that “If I was still playing I would be listening intently to what Pep Guardiola has to say, hanging on every word and making sure I carried out his instructions to the maximum of my ability” 21
