The 2017 ICAO Seminar on Green Airports took stock of the policies and practices underlying the management of green airports. One of the conclusions of the 2017 ICAO Seminar was that “Green Airports” is a fast-evolving concept. This session will therefore review the new practices and new areas making an airport green. It will introduce a number of themes that will be more closely examined during the Seminar. Day 1 - Wednesday, 8 May 2019 11:20 – 12:50 Session 2: Circular Economy The concept of Circular Economy is one of the new components of “Green Airports” that was not considered during the 2017 ICAO Seminar. A “Circular Economy” covers a range of environmental activities: energy efficiency, waste management (including recycling), water management. These activities contribute to the environmental sustainability of international aviation and the principle of a circular economy has already been embraced by a number of international aviation stakeholders, including airlines and airports. It is expected that this session will provide information on the inception and history of “Circular Economy”, on the different building blocks forming this concept and on how it translates in international aviation stakeholders’ practices. Moderator: Ms. Jane Hupe, Deputy Director Environment, ICAO Speakers: Ms. Denise Pronk, Programme Manager Corporate Responsibility, Amsterdam- Schiphol Airport Mr. Rodrigo Tavares, Environmental Manager, Salvador Airport Ms. Erin Cooke, Sustainability & Environmental Policy Director, San Francisco International Airport 12:50 – 14:00 Lunch Break sponsored by Lima Airport Partners S.R.L. 14:00 – 15:15 Session 3: Carbon management and clean energy Increasingly, international airports diversify their sources of energy, including an increasing share of renewable energy in their energy mix. During the 2017 ICAO Seminar on Green Airports, a range of renewable energy options that airports can implement in order to reduce their carbon footprint were explored. In this session, the focus will be on how the airport operator can become an agent of change at local and regional levels, and stimulate the production and consumption of clean energy beyond the airport fence. Moderator: Mr. Ted McDonald, Senior Environmental Protection Specialist at Transport Canada and co-Rapporteur of CAEP WG2 “Airports and Operations” Speakers: Mr. Juan Veras, Emissions Reduction Coordinator, Civil Aviation Authority, Dominican Republic Ms. Marina Bylinsky, Head of Sustainability, ACI Mr. Jorge Navarro, Manager Maintenance and Infrastructure, Aeropuerto de Carrasco, Montevideo Mr. Jorge Rosillo, General Manager, Galápagos Ecological Airport 8 - 9 MAY 2019 | LIMA, PERU 5

ICAO has been leading key work on climate change adaptation in international aviation, fostering the understanding of the climate change impacts and alerting on the risks. This session will unveil this important are of work and stimulate discussion amongst panellists on next steps order to enhance the resilience of the sector, so that it can fully deliver its socio-economic benefits, focussing on Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Community engagement is increasingly considered as the key to successful environmental management, in particular noise. However, community engagement strategies should be tailor-made to the specific projects, the airport and the local communities surrounding the airport. This session will cover practices related to noise management, with a broader scope, as communities establish themselves as one of the main interlocutors of airport operators. Moderator: Mr. Ted McDonald, Senior Environmental Protection Specialist at Transport Canada and co-Rapporteur of CAEP WG2 “Airports and Operations” Speakers: Ms. Mary Ellen Eagan, President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Directors, HMMH Mr. José de la Cruz, Lima Airport, Peru Mr. Martin Doherty, Environmental Manager, North Runway Project, Dublin Airport Authority Mr. Ian Jopson, Head of Environmental and Community Affairs, NATS 8 - 9 MAY 2019 | LIMA, PERU 7

In particular, how can airports add value to communities, in line with a “business to people” (B2P) approach. Environmental factors are the single biggest reason that communities object to the development and expansion of airports, and that demonstrable efforts to reduce the environmental footprint play a crucial role in securing expansion. CSR experts will be invited to present the latest policies and best practices and will provide concrete case studies on their implementation at airports, including in South America. Moderator: Mr. Andrew Watt, Head of Environment at EUROCONTROL and co- Rapporteur of CAEP WG2 “Airports and Operations” Speakers: Kristi McKenney, Manager of Aviation Planning and Development, Port of Oakland Mr. Robert Hough, Environment and Operational Compliance, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority Mr. Frederic Eychenne, Director, Air Transport Affairs, Airbus Mr. Jaime Perez, Manager Environment, Health and Safety, Quito Airport 15:00 – 15:30 Coffee Break 8 ICAO SEMINAR ON GREEN AIRPORTS in cooperation with ACI

This is regardless of whether they are in the public or private sector. This session discusses how governments wishing to privatise their airports address the question. This session provides cases studies from airports which have already dealt with these issues and how their continued engagement with the authorities has proved that a strong commitment to environmental protection is key to long term success.
