NOTE FROM AUSCYCLING Message from the AusCycling CEO, Marne Fechner AusCycling respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the AusCycling 2022 Federation University Road National Championships will be held, the Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung People, we and recognise their continuing connection to the land and waterways. On behalf of AusCycling, I extend a warm welcome to all athletes, officials, volunteers, staff, cycling fans, and supporters from around Australia and the world. Over five days in January, 1500 of Australia’s best and most enthusiastic riders will head to Ballarat to battle for approximately 200 coveted green and gold national champions jerseys in the criterium, road race, time trial and Gran Fondo. Annually, the Road Nationals Championships produces countless incredible memories, with many of Australian cycling’s WorldTour, Olympic and Paralympic stars celebrating glory on the roads of Ballarat. Already one of the largest events on AusCycling’s domestic calendar, the Road Nationals Championships will be even more inclusive in 2022, with new events for those within the transplant community. This important development follows the inclusion of Para-cycling events, in addition to races for cyclists with intellectual impairments and hearing impairments, across the last three years. We are pleased that we will be able to welcome fans to the roadsides of Ballarat to watch the action live while we also invite millions more across Australia and the world to tune in on TV and online. The Championships would not be possible without the assistance of our great partners, and we extend our genuine appreciation to our key partners Federation University, City of Ballarat, and Visit Victoria, for their tremendous support. I would also like to acknowledge our principal partners in the UCI and Sport Australia for their ongoing contribution to the success of our sport here and abroad whilst acknowledging our broadcast partners, SBS and FOX SPORTS Australia and the Global Cycling Network. Thank you also to all the contributions from AusCycling staff, commissaires, supporters and tireless volunteers who make this event happen. Lastly, I wish the very best to all our competitors. We will be right behind you as you chase your dreams. Marne Fechner 7 | GRAN FONDO 2022 - RIDER GUIDE
