Storytime
Do you know?

Can you show me your mouth?

We speak with our mouth.

Can you make a sound with
your mouth?

Wonderful sound making!

Before the beginning of time, there was nothing.

                                  No toys, no books, no Mommy’s or Daddy’s;

                                                  just darkness.

                                       God spoke and created everything!

He made light, planets, plants, animals, people,

                                            and everything that exists.

He created everything in 6 days.

Everything He made was very good.

Then, on day number 7, He rested.

                                               Pray for the toddler.

Toddler’s name, I pray you will rest in God’s goodness and that your family will too.

Follow the Flashlight
And God said, “Let there be light”, and then there was light.
Our first activity will be to explore light with our little ones. Light exploration is an excellent sensorial activity,
especially for the development of the sense of sight.

                                                 Skills learned:

Materials needed:
• Flashlight
• Blanket

Preparation:
Create a blanket fort to climb inside. Make sure there is enough power in the Flashlight.

Steps:
For Babies:
Baby’s eyes are sensitive to light. Create a blanket fort with baby and adult inside.

Outside, another adult shines the flashlight from the outside to create a light patch.

The person outside moves the light from one place to another so that the baby can track the lights. They can also
turn the flashlight on and off.

Another option is to move the flashlight far and near the blanket fort, to create big and small beams of light.

For Toddlers:
Under supervision, allow the child to shine the light on the blanket or a wall.

Give the child simple instructions to follow.

For example:

    • Turn the light on. Turn the light off.
    • Make the light bigger. Make the light smaller.
    • Repeat with the child until they do with ease.
    • Repeat together, “God said, let there be light”.

Mirror Painting
Our next activity is a continuation of exploring light concept and is combined with creative art skills.

                                               Skills learned:

Materials needed:
• Mirror
• Kid-safe paint

Preparation:
Place a play safe mirror in the room. Gather cleaning equipment.

Steps:
Bring the baby / child to a room and turn on the lights. To further enhance the activity, make sure that you
position a play safe mirror so that it can reflect the lights inside the room.
Next, sit or lay the child next to a child safe mirror on the floor.
Lastly, using child safe paint, allow your little ones to explore painting using their hands and feet by
applying paint on the mirror itself.

For younger babies:
Apply paint on their hands and feet and help them leave a handprint or footprint on the mirror. It will be
great for their sense of touch!

For toddlers:
Enhance movement by painting on the mirror.
They will also see and learn about the parts of their bodies.
Parents can point and call out parts of their bodies
while looking at the mirror and painting.

Catch and Seek Animals
On day 6, God created the animals. This next activity will promote gross motor skills, listening, repeating, and object
permanence.

                                              Skills learned:

Materials needed:
• Stuffed animals

Preparation:
Lay out a selection of stuffed or toy animals.

Steps:
With the child inside the room, bring out a selection of stuffed animals.
Place the child a few meters away from the toy and entice him or her to crawl or walk towards the stuffed
animal.
As the child selects the animal, repeat the animal’s name and sound. For example, “Well done, you’ve
found a cow. A cow goes “moo.” Can you make a moo sound? God made the cows.”

Babies:
Lay him or her on the floor and let them track the animal with his or her eyes.
Make animal sounds for the child to follow.
For Toddlers:
This is an opportunity to introduce object permanence. This means that the child is aware that a toy exists
even if you hide it and not in his plain sight.
Play hide and seek animals. Hide the animals around the room and let your child look for them and pick
them up!
Grownups may also hide while making animal sounds for their child to seek!

Find the numbers
Cut out each image. Hide them in a small bin of toys for the toddler to explore and find.

Sort and practice counting using the numbers.

Look for one object in each image.

Repeat together “On day _ God made “the object”

                              (Laminate for extra durability.)

Sensory Bottle
This oil and water experiment in a bottle is used as a demonstration to show that light (oil) and darkness (water) do
not mix but always separate, just as God’s perfection and the darkness of sin do not mix but always are separate.
Shake it up and see what happens!

Materials needed:
    • Plastic bottle
    • Black washable marker
    • Water
    • Baby Oil or Canola oil
    • Strong tape

Preparation:
    1. Fill the bottle halfway with water
    2. Place a washable marker in the water and let sit 5 minutes
    3. Remove marker and fill the other half with oil
    4. Tape the lid on.

Steps:
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light
from the darkness.”

                                                  Practice words like:

God, create, speak, light, water, sky, darkness, sin, separate, goodness, perfect, gift…

Songs
Sing to the tune of “Rock-a-bye Baby” as you rock or change the baby.

God made the light and God made the sky,
God made the day and God made the night.

God made the trees and God made the birds,
God made the people; He made the world!

                                  Pray for them.
Child’s name, I pray you will rest in God’s goodness and that your family will too.
