GLENDON EXTENDED LEARNING Glendon Campus, York University EXPLORE & IMMERSION PROGRAM 2018 PROGRAM GUIDE
YOUR ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE Explore & Immersion Dates: Spring: May 22 to June 22, 2018 (move-in on May 21) Summer: July 3 to August 3, 2018 (move-in on July 2) You must arrive one day before your program starts, any time between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM. You will not have to pay accommodation for this one-day early arrival. You will have to look after your own meals on this day. Upon arrival on the campus, please go to the lobby of Hilliard Residence. Monitors will be there to greet and orient you. If you need to arrive earlier, contact Glendon Hospitality at 416-736-2100 x88547 to make reservations and to get information on room prices and availability. The spring session ends on June 22. The summer session ends on August 3. We expect you to check-out before 11:00 AM. Breakfast will be provided on the last day of the program. You must pay if you decide to extend your stay.
CORRESPONDENCE, TELEPHONE, & INTERNET Mail will be distributed daily in class. All personal correspondence must be addressed as follows: *Your name* - Explore Program York Hall A112 2275 Bayview Avenue Toronto, Ontario M4N 3M6 Glendon Extended Learning (T: 416-487-6780, F: 416-487-6781) will take messages and let you use our line only in case of an emergency. You will have free Internet access from the computer lab 24/7, as well as access to the wireless network. A personal username and password will be provided to you upon your arrival.
FACILITIES & ACCOMMODATION Laundry There is a laundry room in your building. The laundry card requires a $5.00 deposit and funds can be added to this card at the 'York U card machine' outside the cafeteria. Cost per load is $1.75 for the washer and $1.50 for the dryer. Bring your own laundry detergent. Room Every effort will be made to place you in a single room, however, you may have to share. The bathroom will be shared with the rest of the floor. The room includes a bed, desk, garbage bins, and a closet. Please let us know in advance if you need any specific accommodation. The menu (while we cannot cater to individual needs) is varied and includes vegetarian, vegan, and halal options. CURFEW & OTHER RULES Curfew If you are a participant in the 2018 Summer session (July 3 to August 3), you must obey by the Curfew Rules, unless your parent/guardian has signed to opt-out your curfew. You will need to be in your rooms by 11:00 PM from Sundays to Thursdays, and by 1:00 AM from Fridays to Saturdays. Failure to obey the rules will result in the revocation of privileges. Off-Campus All participants of the Explore & Immersion Program must "sign-out" when leaving campus and "sign back in" upon returning, for safety purposes. Forms are located on specified monitors' doors. If you are a participant in the 2018 Summer session (July 3 to August 3), you must "sign-out" in groups of three (3) in order to leave campus, unless your parent/guardian has given permission for you to leave campus alone. Furthermore, your parent/guardian can declare that you may not leave campus under any circumstances (trips excluded). Substance Consumption All participants of the Explore & Immersion Program are forbidden from consuming recreational drugs of any kind. Participants in the 2018 Spring Session (May 22 to July 22) may consume Alcohol on campus if you are in you room, or in a residence common room out of an opaque container. Participants in 2018 Summer Session (July 3 to August 3) may not consume alcohol of any kind, as you are bellow the legal drinking age in Ontario.
WHAT TO PACK Need some ideas on what to bring? Here are a few examples: Clothing for all kinds of weather & events (rain jacket, sweater, comfortable walking shoes, sportswear, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a nice outfit for the final banquet and dance, etc.) Room necessities (fan, coat hangers, alarm clock, a small fridge, laptop, etc.) Sports equipment (softball glove, swimsuit, swim cap, etc.) Musical instruments (guitar, violin, flute, etc.) Hygiene & laundry products (towels, soap, flip-flops, laundry detergent, etc.) What you don't need to bring: Pillows, bed linen, garbage bins, mirror

GYMNASIUM & SPORTS In order to have access to the Glendon Athletic Club, a membership must be purchased. The cost is $50.00 + HST Please complete the the Glendon Athletic Centre Waiver Form and submit it with your Registration Package. Payment for the use of Glendon Athletic Center facilities is NOT included in either the registration fee or the security deposit. http://www.glendon.yorku.ca/gac/
THE COURSE & PLACEMENT TEST Glendon Campus is the bilingual campus of York University. The program is designed to help you better understand and acquire more confidence in interacting in French or English by developing your conversational skills. The curriculum is based on the communicative approach. The language has been divided into different levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. You will take a placement test on the first day of the program in order to determine your level. It consists of an audio-written test combined.
SEMINARS & WORKSHOPS On the first week of the program, you will sign up for a seminar that is given by a teacher on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a workshop that is given by a monitor on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The seminars and workshops are mandatory and are an integral part of the program.
PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES Program activities during the afternoons, evenings, & weekends are all included in the program at no additional fee. These activities may vary. Examples include movie nights, dance, cultural trips, sports, Talent shows, etc. During the first week of the program, you can buy single activities ($10.00 to $50.00) or a full package for approximately $300.00 Trips and prices are subject to change. ALL ROADS TAKE YOU TO GLENDON The campus is located at: 2275 Bayview Avenue Toronto, ON M4N 3M6 Travel Information (by bus, subway, taxi, plane, or train) You can get to our campus by using the Toronto public transit system (TTC): http://www.ttc.ca/ The 124 "Sunnybrook Hospital" bus drops you off in front of Glendon. Just make sure to hop-off the bus at "306 Lawrence Avenue East - York University Glendon Campus - Toronto French School". The fare is at $3.25. Don't forget to take or ask for a transfer ticket!

ALL ROADS TAKE YOU TO GLENDON Subway For those taking the subway, note that there are three different Lawrence subway stations: Lawrence, Lawrence West, and Lawrence East. In order to get to Glendon, you will need to get to Lawrence station. Taxi For those taking a taxi, make sure that the driver understands when you say Glendon at Lawrence and Bayview. They may misunderstand you and drive you to the Keele campus, York's other campus. Show them the address (2275 Bayview Avenue). Pick-Up &Drop-Off We do not arrange pick-up or drop-off services to or from the airport, train station, or bus terminal. However, prior to the start of the program, you will be added into the Explore Facebook page, and you may get in-touch with other Explore participants and arrange a travelling plan.
