Introduction As a major component of the National Department of Health’s (NDOH) overall COVID 19 response, Government will source, distribute, and oversee the rollout of vaccines. • Government will facilitate the purchase of vaccines to be distributed to provincial governments and the private sector. • Available stock will be procured from different manufacturers • The vaccination system will be based on a pre-vaccination registration and an appointment system. • Those vaccinated will be placed on a national register and provided with proof of vaccination. • A national rollout committee oversees vaccine implementation in both the public and private sectors. Unlike other common vaccinations, the COVID-19 vaccine necessitates specific processes for storage, administration, recording and monitoring. To manage the scale of the national program, processes have been established to ensure that population level immunity is achieved as rapidly as possible. 1

Participation Requirements Confirm that the following vaccination site requirements will be in place* • Space for screening, registration, vaccinating, observation and recording. • All the necessary equipment and furniture to provide the vaccination services including IT hardware, desks, tables, and chairs etc. • Sufficient cold chain storage capacity to comply with the manufacturers' vaccine storage requirements and to accommodate the volume of vaccine required. • WHO PQS continuous temperature monitoring and logging devices to monitor the vaccines' storage temperature, which displays alarms, min/max temperatures, and a log of temperature readings • Appropriate waste disposal systems. • Alternative power sources to maintain the cold storage conditions in a power failure event. 4

Estimate your vaccination capacity • Identify vaccinator/s and complete covid-19 training modules • Complete the Master Facility List (MFL) application and confirm site accreditation • Development of your own site implementation plan • Secure vaccination stock • Decide and communicate the site activation date 5
Estimate your capacity plan A capacity plan will enable each site to prepare for the successful roll-out of COVID-19 Vaccines • A capacity planning calculator will be provided to aid assessment of your capacity to administer COVID-19 vaccines, either in your own capacity or standalone vaccine site. 6

Identify the Vaccinator/s Vaccines must be administered by appropriately trained and competent individuals. • On identification of vaccinators, all should access and complete an online vaccination course. • Links to accredited courses are provided: • www.knowledgehub.org.za • A list of accredited vaccinators will need to be provided as part of the enrolment as a NDoH vaccination site on the Electronic Vaccine Data Systems (EVDS). 8

Register as a new user on MFL Each vaccination site must register for accreditation and inclusion in the MFL. Each vaccination site must appoint a Health facility representative (e.g. Facility manager) whose role is to: • Confirm authentication • Create user access requests • Can create MFL requests to add/edit facility data. • Can view facilities’ data • Can export facilities’ data • Training is available to support the facility administrator. To commence the enrollment process please access via https://mfl.csir.co.za/ 10

Infrastructure Implementation Patients will move through vaccination site in 3 steps Registration Vaccination Observation ! Patient is asked medical ! Patient is seated for 15 ! On arrival Patient questions and grants mins presents the “proof of consent. • Any adverse events ! Vaccinator administers will need to be timeslot voucher” and recorded using the vaccine, is registered for ! completes vaccine NDoH process, as digital/physical card (note indicated in the vaccination knowledgehub.org.za if a second dose may be ! Patient is directed to ! Once time has lapsed, staff required) and need to advise patient the vaccination station ! logs the vaccine on the he/she may leave EVDS system ! patient is directed to the observation station 12
