A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR As 2021 comes toward a close, I hope your spirits are elevated by the grace, excitement and wonder of the upcoming holiday season. While we have all had challenging recent times, we anticipate a brighter, happier 2022 as we move forward as a community toward better days ahead. Our City, made up of a team of staff, residents and businesses, is a Compassionate City. Our Compassion Center continues to offer resourc- es for our residents so they can turn to us in times of need. Sometimes our residents need direct assistance. Sometimes they need help to solve a problem where when can be their advocate. Either way, if you need help or are struggling with food or housing or other essentials, I encourage you to call (954) 746-3670 for assistance. Sunrise is proud to provide diversions for residents of all ages – from the young to the young at heart. Programs like our Fall Harvest Festival, Trick or Trot 5K, Holiday Tree Lighting, and Arts and Crafts Festival provide opportunities for us to gather outside, greet our neighbors, and enjoy the beautiful South Florida weather. We have all missed our Tunes ‘N Trucks outdoor concert series and are so thrilled to welcome back our concert season. We are also excit- ed to add an extra month of live music and food-truck favorites. This concert season, the February and June events will be in our entirely redesigned and new City Park. HORIZONS 5 CITY HALL CONSTRUCTION UPDATE The new Sunrise City Hall is rising at the intersection of West Oakland Park Boulevard and Josh Lee Boulevard. This modern building is part of Sunrise’s Municipal Campus Improvement Project, which also includes the demolition of the current City Hall; construction of a free-standing, 500-space parking garage; upgrades to and expansion of the existing Civic Center Amphitheater – including a Great Lawn for concerts and oth- er events; covered walkways; and landscaping and other site enhance- ments. The new City Hall will unite most Sunrise departments under one roof, and puts residents’ needs at the forefront. The main floor will provide a convenient “one-stop shop” where customers can receive assistance with building permits, code compliance, and business tax receipts, as well as open utility accounts and pay bills. 6 HORIZONS GO Bond Update: Improvements to Parks and Recreation Facilities Continue On Election Day in 2014, more than 70% of Sunrise voters approved the City’s general obligation (GO) bond referendum. Thanks to this overwhelming resident support, Sunrise is able to fund improvements to parks and recreation facilities in neighborhoods citywide. The map shown here provides a quick visual overview of work funded by GO Bonds. On the following two pages, you’ll find more in-depth information about projects recently completed and currently under construction. We will continue to update you on our progress in upcoming issues of Horizons. We also invite you to visit www.sunrisefl.gov/park- bonds for additional information - including photos and renderings - for all of our projects. (Please keep in mind that renderings are conceptual, and that design details may change over the course of a project.) You can find project information – and knowledgeable staff members – at City events, too. Look for our GO Bond team at the Sunrise Civic Center Amphitheater during Tunes ‘N Trucks concerts on October 8 and November 5, and at the Fall Harvest Festival at the Sunrise Sportsplex on October 16.
