Village Board Meeting Memorandum TO: Village President and Board of Trustees CC: Jennifer Johnsen, Village Administrator FROM: Brad Mitchell, Assistant Village Administrator Phil Cotter, Public Works Director Amanda Rafter, Management Analyst DATE: May 17, 2021 RE: Bike Parking Signage Residents and visitors take advantage of the Fox River Trail which runs through East Dundee’s downtown. It has been noted that visitors who drive to the trail frequently park along River Street, which may make parking for local businesses more difficult. To help alleviate street parking in the downtown, staff was tasked with directing all-day bicycle parking to a less trafficked area. Staff recommends the selection of the parking lot between Hill and Railroad to help direct bicycle and all-day parking. The parking lot has ample space and is located conveniently next to the Fox River Trail. To help direct visitors to this lot, signage is needed. Staff has been working with Meyer Signs, who produced the Village’s large logo sign on the west side of the Depot, to help execute this project. Meyer Signs created four branded signs, two are directional, to be posted throughout the downtown in desired locations for traffic flow. Please refer to the map on the following page for the location of each sign and the attached Street View Locations PDF. Please note, staff is exploring the best sign placement options for Barrington going west and River and Railroad going south. Quantity: 3 Quantity: 3 Quantity: 2 Quantity: 4 The two directional signs will help direct moving traffic to the parking lot and the remaining two signs will be placed at each entrance of the Caboose parking lot, as well as two additional signs for the other two municipal parking lots. 1|Page

Existing Signage Update-Option 1 Remove the current triangle structure from existing sign. Repaint the structure in black and white, following the model. Replace existing village lettering with three- dimensional stand off letterforms (using the same font from the new logo). Back-lighting recommended for improved legibility at night. See page 3 for examples of dimensional and backlit letters.

A backlight could be added so the village name glows at night. This concept could re-purpose the brick base from the existing structure with the new signage affixed on top of the brick base. See page 5 for cut metal and backlit examples.

Memorandum To: Erika Storlie, Village Administrator From: Phil Cotter, Director of Public Works Subject: Discussion of Improvements to the Depot/Downtown Area Date: March 7, 2022 ______________________________________________ With a desire to beautify and enhance the enjoyment of the Depot and downtown area, Staff presents several proposed improvements for discussion at Monday’s General Village Committee meeting. These proposed improvements include the purchase and installation of concrete planters and benches, the replacement of the two outdoor drinking fountains (humans and pets) at the Depot, and replacement of the gravel area located on the north side of the Depot with block pavers. Staff would ideally like to pursue these improvements ahead of the upcoming spring/summer and special event season. Planters: Staff proposes the purchase 10 concrete planters to be placed along Barrington Avenue and Railroad Street. Reference the map below for more specific locations (blue dots). Pricing was solicited for the following three options. Round Planter: 48” D x 30” H LaSalle Planter: 36” D x 30” H Price: $855.00 each Price: $657.00 each
Radius Bottom Planter: 48” D x 30” H Price: $876.00 each Additional planter options can be found on this website: https://dotyconcrete.com/products/outdoor-furnishings/planters/ Benches: Staff proposes to purchase 3 bench/planters for the parkway between the Depot lawn and River Street. The three locations are indicated by the green dots in the map below. Pricing was solicited for this option. Contemporary Bench/Planter: 48” L x 30” H Price: $765.00 each Staff proposes the French Gray finish for the planters and bench/planters. Reference the finish options chart. 2|Page
Location map of proposed planters and bench/planters: Pavers: Staff proposes to install block pavers in the area on the north side of the Depot (reference orange circle in map above) – replacing the gravel that routinely collects discarded trash, grows weeds, and requires weekly maintenance and upkeep. The estimated cost for a paver project +/- $20,000. The new block pavers would match the block pavers currently in the area outside the main entrance of the Depot. 3|Page
Drinking Fountains: Staff proposes to replace the two existing drinking fountains (reference photo) with a bottle filling station/drinking fountain unit and pet fountain. Below are examples of what staff is proposing to purchase. Formal pricing for the two fountains has been requested but not yet received. A quick internet search indicates that pricing for both could be in the vicinity of $4,500. 4|Page
