GEM Infrastructure Requests For the GE2/1 and ME0 production site INFN sez. Bari Piet Verwilligen, G. Pugliese INFN sez. Bari
Revision of Infrastructure GEM production & test lab for the upcoming Phase-2 production. • In the past we have cannibalized our R&D lab to setup the various Quality Control (QC) stands, using all electronics modules we have, together with rentals of the CERN EPool, without asking CSN1 for infrastructure (only for new gaslines we asked and got a few tens of kEUR). • For the construction of the 18 GE1/1 detectors the production and test was generally smooth, especially because there was no stringent time criterium to finish the chambers. The Bari lab was one of the first labs to have received the material and start the construction, which allowed us when necessary to take more time to understand the behaviour of a badly behaving chamber. • Now for GE2/1 (48 modules) and ME0 production (48 chambers), the time pressure will be much higher. And we cannot allow to be halted with the mass production by investigating a misbehaving chamber. Therefore we need a so-called "Hospital" setup. This was recommended from the beginning by the GEM collaboration. • Furthermore we were using the oscilloscope of the Tracker group, but this group has asked back the oscilloscope since they start with the production of PS modules in 2020. Therefore in the setup I have included 2 cheap 200Mhz oscilloscopes. • Furthermore we need a 2nd optical table in the cleanroom. For GE1/1 production we used a normal table with a galvanized Aluminium protection, but this is not an option for GE2/1. Now we need to be able to attach the jig to the table, for which we need holes in the table. Furthermore the Iron jig was scratching the Aluminium cover of the table creating Aluminium dust in the cleanroom, which is not acceptable.
