Making Movement Matter Making Movement Matter is a Salmon Arm Recreation initiative dedicated to advancing physical literacy opportunities to engage our community to be active for life and to promote health and well being. Physical literacy is the cornerstone of both participation and excellence in physical activi- ty and sport. Salmon Arm Recreation Fall Programs that promote Physical Literacy: Motoring Munchkins...great for kids to learn to run, jump, throw and climb Wiz Kids and Sports...kids will learn balance, co-ordination, agility, and basic sport skills Swimming…great for the whole family to work on floating, kicking, propulsion Learn to Skate...little ones will be introduced to gliding, pushing, balance, spinning Volleyball League...adults get a chance to work on jumping, hitting, agility, and co-ordination Dance Lessons...adults can dance their way to improving balance, agility & coordination Choose to Move...older participants will work on balance, agility and coordination ActivAge...older adults get a change to work on balance, agility, coordination, throw/catch Our Get Active Guide is a comprehensive listing of community groups, businesses, indoor and outdoor facilities to help you get active. Child & Youth Programs Motoring Munchkins (0 - 5 years) Free - Sponsored by the Shuswap Parent Participation Children’s Association through a partnership Drop in to this program designed for parents with the Ministry of Children and Families who have children at various stages of growth and development. Stations are arranged to enhance creative, physical, and social development with an area for those children that are not yet motoring. If bringing snacks, please bring nut free snacks. SASCU Recreation Centre Gym Mondays and Wednesdays 10:00 am – 12:00 pm September 27 - December 15 No session Monday October 11 Wiz Kids and Sports This multi-faceted program will give your kids a head-start for kindergarten through crafts and story time as well as doing some fun sports and physical activities. The program will incorporate short sessions of swimming, gym sports, and outdoor activities. This program is designed for children 5 years of age in 2022. Wiz Kids uses recreation- based activities to develop your child’s social skills while increasing their self confidence. Please send a small nut free nutritious snack for your child. Skating Programs Salmon Arm Recreation Learn to Skate Program Our Learn to Skate program is designed to teach the basics of skating to allow children the opportunity to advance into other community programs or enjoy recreational skating. The Learn to Skate Program is a skill-based program that focuses on accomplishing individual skills rather than levels. All children and adults on the ice must wear a helmet. All sessions are held at the Shaw Centre Spectator Arena Cost: $80/10 sessions (all Learn to Skate programs) Penguins (3 years +) This class is for children that have never skated before. Parents are welcome to come on the ice for the first lesson only.
