About
IMAS Established in 2013 with the purpose of broadening access to
high-quality professional accountancy education to aspiring
Chartered Management Accountants. IMAS is the brainchild of
Nkosinathi Thela. IMAS, a professional accountancy institution
specializes in Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
qualifications.
The National Skills Fund identified accountants and finance managers
among the skills that are in shortage in South Africa. IMAS decided to
add the highly regarded ACCA qualification to its offering to assist in
closing the gap identified by the National Skills Fund. IMAS intends
to play a meaningful role in supporting the country to realize its
aspiration as encapsulated in the National Development Plan (NDP)
of training and developing highly skilled graduates.
IMAS is dedicated to continuing to deliver the highest standard of
lecturing and student support with the focus on guiding students to
realizing their dreams of becoming professional accountants. The
qualifications offered at IMAS are globally recognized, enabling IMAS
graduates to succeed wherever they go. IMAS develops strategic
thinkers with the capability of being business leaders, whilst offering
current business leaders the opportunity to gain greater knowledge

CIMA joint venture with the AICPA brought us the CGMA designation – Chartered
Global Management Accountant. The CGMA mission is to promote management
accounting and the value that management accountants add to an organisation.
The CGMA designation signifies that you are a trusted business strategist who can

09ENTRY
REQUIREMENTS
For the Certificate in Business Accounting
You don’t need any formal qualification to start this level.
You will need a good understanding of both English and
Maths and a passion to succeed in business. If you are
doing Math Literacy, you will need a minimum of 50%
pass rate. If you have an accredited accounting qualification,
you might be eligible for exemptions from subjects at this
level.

To Proceed Beyond the Certificate in
Business Accounting
You require a qualification in either accounting or
finance, this could either be:
• Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting
• BCom/BCom Honours in Accounting, Management
Accounting or any finance related area
• Master’s in Accounting or MBA

Are you a SAIPA member or hold an MBA Qualification
The Professional gateway and Master’s gateway routes are an
accelerated entry routes to the CIMA Professional Qualification and
the globally recognised CGMA designation for individuals who hold
an MBA or Master's in Accounting.
GATEWAY How does it work
ROUTE
Eligible individuals are required to take the CIMA Gateway exam, also
known as the Management Level Case Study exam for those who are
not on the accelerated route.
The CIMA gateway exam is:
• A computer based case study exam
• Three hours long
• Available in four windows a year (February, May, August and
November)
• Assesses knowledge and competencies covered in the Management
level of the CIMA Professional Qualification
In preparation for the Gateway Exam, IMAS offers eight to ten weeks
of contact classes through its part-time or home study programme.
This will be followed by a two weeks of case study workshop, you can
refer to our 2020 timetables for dates and venue available on our
website.
Once you have passed the CIMA Gateway Exam, you will be granted
12 exemptions that include subjects from the certificate level,
operational and management level exams, allowing you to progress
straight to the strategic level of CIMA Professional Qualification.
How much does it cost
Your fees are divided into two:
1. CIMA fees = R9,000 which covers:
• Registration with CIMA
• First year’s subscription fee
• One attempt at the exam
• 11 exemptions from Certificate, Operational and Management Level,
after successfully passing the CIMA Gateway Exam
2. IMAS fees = R20,850 which includes:
• All your contact classes for P2, F2 and E2
• Kaplan Study Material – Study Text and Exam Practice Kit
• Unlimited Access to our pre-recorded material
• Free Access to the Case Study Workshop

IMAS will register you with CIMA and submit documents
proving your eligibility for this route. Documents include:
• Complete academic transcripts (mark sheets) for all
your qualifications
• Graduation certificate(s) or a letter from your University
confirming completion or letter from your professional body
• Once your documents have been reviewed and approved you
will then be confirmed onto the gateway route by CIMA and
commence with your classes in preparation for your Gateway Exam
CIMA
GLOBAL CA PROGRAM
This exclusive pathway for CA (SA), is a very structured
approach. You can only be admitted into this pathway
via application to the CIMA-SA office. IMAS will assist
with the application.
Target Audience: All qualified CA’s
All CAs are exempted from 15 modules and only assessed on the
Strategic Case study exam. After the process of exam completion, you
will need to apply to become a member. Once you are a member,
your designation (CGMA) will be internationally recognised.

To commence with an application for exemptions as a SAICA member,
we require the following documents to be emailed to: nkosinathit@imas-sa.co.za.

- Letter of good standing from SAICA

REQUIREMENTS
1. Do you have Grade 12 or equivalent?
You will need a minimum of level 3 in both English and Mathematics
If you did Maths Literacy, you would require a minimum of level 4
Students who meet the minimum requirements detailed above will
start at the ACCA Knowledge Level. However, students who do not
meet the minimum requirements can do a ‘Foundation in
Accountancy,’ a one-year qualification which is part of ACCA that will
lead to students receiving credits towards the ACCA Advanced
Diploma or Skills Level.
2. Do you have a post Grade 12 qualification in
accounting, finance or business related?
If you have completed a diploma, degree or equivalent that has
finance content, you could be exempt from some or even a maximum
of nine exams from the ACCA Qualification leaving you the
Professional level exams to complete and time to focus on gaining
your practical experience.
