bicycle race and other activities at the river and downtown.

The grandaddy of river festivals, , is held on Father’s Day weekend each
year in and around Salida. Rafting and kayaking races are the centerpiece of a five day
festival. Foot races, a parade, skate competition, mountain bike race, pancake breakfast,
musical entertainment and more are headquartered at Riverside Park in Salida. The
Hooligan Race, an event featuring an armada of homemade theme-based watercraft, is
popular with spectators and participants alike.

water volume in the river drops, grab a float or
splash, swim or surf the water from its banks.

parks. They’re perfect for seasoned climbers or

Mountain. With an elevation gain of 4,200 feet topping out at 11,312 feet, Salida to Monarch
Pass is a great 22-mile ride on U.S. 50.
Cottonwood Pass has been a featured Pro Challenge climb in past years. From downtown Salida –
Buena Vista, this 21 - mile ride gains some 4,200 feet to 12,126 feet elevation, with two
lung-busting stretches of 10 percent grades for about a half-mile each.
