Volume 1; Issue 58 March 2021 Fourways High School From The Principal’s Desk Rotation of Grades The School Management has carefully considered all the implications of continuing with online learning or returning more Grades to school daily. The regulations have been studied and the requirements and protocols can be facilitated at the school. A decision has been made to return all Grades to school from Tuesday 6 April 2021. There will be a registration period daily, starting at 07:30 and there will be no time changes for break and the end of the day at this stage. We believe that it is in the best interest of the students to minimize the negative impact of online learning as much as possible by increasing face-to-face contact time. Please be assured that the situation will be monitored closely and if necessary, a return to the rotational timetable will be made. It is critical that parents emphasize the importance of each student’s responsibility in ensuring the safety of themselves and those around them. Failure to follow COVID-19 protocols (e.g. incorrect wearing of a mask) will lead to students being sent home immediately. I would like to remind you that there is very little, or no evidence of COVID-19 spreading at schools. There is however ample evidence of the spreading during social events. Appointments According to the Regulations for Safety Measures at Public Schools, parents are required to make an appointment prior to the visit and must state the reason for the visit and the persons who may be involved during the visit. This regulation has been reinforced by the same requirement in the COVID-19 regulations that aim to reduce the number of visitors to any school. School Fees Thank you to all parents who are making every effort to keep up with your responsibility towards the payment of school fees. There is very good support from a significant number of families, and this is always appreciated. You are certainly doing your share to make sure that we can continue to provide that service you need. Attendance, Late Coming & Early Leaving A concern to the teachers is the high level of absenteeism and late coming by students. I need to remind you that any absence from an assessment without a valid excuse will result in a zero mark. Missing of any lessons is also seriously detrimental to a student’s academic progress. In most subjects, there is new work covered in almost every lesson and activities designed to enhance learning are constantly taking place. Late coming, is not only a major administrative burden, but it also disrupts classes. Late coming without a written valid excuse, will be treated as a misdemeanor and may lead to disciplinary action. The school aims to complete screening by 07:30 every morning. There are clear controls in place to ensure safe procedures when students are picked up early from school and parents are requested to comply with these procedures. I would however, like to request parents to try and avoid taking students out of school unless absolutely necessary as we should be doing our utmost to avoid losing academic time. Extra-Murals We are very pleased that we are slowly able to return to extra-mural activities. We will continue to increase these activities as the regulations allow. Parents are requested to encourage their children to start participating whenever possible. A happy school career is likely to depend on the level of commitment to a wide variety of activities offered at the school. 2022 Grade 8 Admissions The 2022 Grade 8 Admissions process is scheduled to begin in Term 2. Please e-mail admissions@4ways.co.za should you wish to be added to the admissions 2022 mailing list. I need to remind you that according to GDE admissions criteria, first preference is given to applicants who reside within the feeder zone and based on proximity to the school. If applicants reside within the feeder zone, that preference must be selected on application. If the sibling option is selected, the application will be placed on the second list. Open Day We hosted a very successful Open Day on Saturday 27 March 2021. Thank you to all those involved who displayed what our wonderful school has on offer. Stay Safe. Warm Regards, Andrew Holliday Principal
