MCCARTHY & STONE A BIG THANK YOU We would like to say thank you to all our homeowners who took part in our survey last year on the health and wellbeing benefits of Homes for Later Living. Published in Autumn 2019, the report explores the wellbeing benefits from living in retirement developments, and how Homes for Later Living can significantly improve the wellbeing of older people by maximising independence and increasing social interaction. The research was undertaken, evaluated and written by a former HM Treasury economist, Chris Walker, who found: • An average person aged 80 feels as good as someone aged 10 years younger after moving to a retirement community. • Retirement communities save the NHS and social care services c.£3,500 per person, per year by keeping older people healthier and happier. • Building 30,000 more retirement properties every year for the next 10 years could generate fiscal savings of £2.1bn per year across the NHS and social services.
