2022 GALLERY NIGHT ITHACA A MONTHLY SERIES PRESENTED BY February Gallery Shows & Locations 1. CAP ArtSpace Tompkins Center for History & Culture | 110 N. Tioga St. OPEN Gallery Night: 5pm to 8pm. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10am to 5pm. Also available online Leanna Yatcilla - “2002" Leanna Yatcilla, an artist and illustrator, is currently a student at Ithaca College pursuing double BFAs in Art and Theatre Production + Design. "This body of work is titled 2002, in reference to the year I was born. Each piece is a reflection on a memorable loca- tion of my childhood. A sense of place is very impactful and present in my work. I express the vastness of the world as seen through a child’s eyes by painting on a large scale. In addition, each painting is compositionally oriented to be inviting to the viewer. However, the viewer cannot actually access these scenes in three dimensions, just as one cannot fully walk into a memory again. 7. The Kitchen Theatre 417 W State St.www.kitchentheatre.org yenospina.com Yen Ospina, Recent Works Yen Ospina is the daughter of Colombian-born immigrants who came to the United States in order to provide a better life for their child. As a proud BIPOC queer artist, Yen en- riches the lives of those around her through her unique and captivating work. A multi-talented artist, she creates in mul- tiple mediums and scales - from digital prints to community murals. Her work centers on themes of power, mysticism, and visibili- ty. She utilizes a core color palette of ochre, chocolate cin- namon red, earthy orange, and a deep dusty teal that makes her diverse body of work instantly recognizable as done in her hand. Ospina brings a sense of whimsy in her imagining of preternatural environments for her subjects to occupy. She gives viewers only enough context to spark their own curiosity and imagination. Ultimately, Yen Ospina creates her art to inspire inquiry and expand the viewer's subconscious assumptions of what feminine, queer, and diverse power looks like. 8.
