The Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040 Each year, ExxonMobil takes a comprehensive look at long-term trends in energy demand, supply, emissions, and technology to guide our own investment decisions. In 2012, we extended our Outlook to the year 2040. The Outlook projects that global energy demand in 2040 will be about 30 percent higher than in 2010, even with significant gains in energy efficiency.
