Term 4 Week 6 November 2019 Kindergarten Stage Page We have had an action packed Term 4 so far!! Kindergarten have been loving gymnastics and have really gained a lot of fundamental gymnastic skills. Our whole school ‘Bring and Buy’ sale was a huge success. Many Kindergarten children ran their own stall with their parents and grandparents. They were selling books, games, puzzles, biscuits and lots of other amazing things. We know that our children will be the business men and women of the future. Kindergarten 2020 have been in for transition to school and the 2019 Kindy also transitioned to Year One with Year One 2019 transitioning to Year Two. A very big week with lots of new friendships being forged. Bring on 2020!! The Minister of Education, The Honourable Sarah Mitchell, came to visit KK to see our Collaborative Classroom program in action. We all enjoyed the visit and were very proud to show off our excellent Mathematic skills. Follow us on Twitter @AshfieldPS page 3
Term 4 Week 6 November 2019 Stage 1 Stage Page Well Stage One have certainly been enjoying term 4. We absolutely loved the Bring and Buy Sale. We all supported each other to buy and sell our goodies, and isn’t it fantastic to have a community occasion that we can all enjoy. It was a great time to sell some toys or books that we no longer need and share our special family recipes with our friends and teachers. We have been enjoying watching our friends present the assemblies over these last few fortnights and are looking forward to watching 1C and 1P present their upcoming assembly. Another highlight of this term is our Class Badalya Week. It has been very exciting to see our parents and friends helping out at Badalya and our Thursday stalls have been a particularly enjoyable day. Stage One enjoyed singing together with so many other children across the state for ‘Count Us In’. We watched the live stream and had a great time singing with our friends. Next week Year 1 will join Kindergarten as we go off to swimming lessons at Annette Kellerman Swimming Pool in Enmore. We are looking forward to getting ready for our end of year concerts. page 4 Follow us on Twitter @AshfieldPS
Term 4 Week 6 November 2019 Stage 2 Stage Page It is Week Six of Term Four and we are midst all the action. From daily reading and writing lessons to weekly gymnastics lessons, from hands-on numeracy sessions to sports sessions, from commemorating Remembrance Day to the annual ‘Bring and Buy’ sale, we are enthusiastically participating in these enriching experiences. This term, Stage Two are reading ‘Esio Trot’ by the Roald Dahl, the number one story-teller. The students are learning about ‘author’s note’ and stepping into the shoes of an author to write one themselves. They are using their super-six strategies and the elements of visual literacy to explore the themes of love and friendship presented in this book. In Science, we are developing the concept of Computational Thinking- a logical problem solving process that involves decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction and algorithmic design. It helps students to create a step by step process to solve a problem. In Mathematics, we are learning to estimate, weigh and compare the mass of objects, pose questions in order to collect information and present in tables and graphs, and represent fractions of an object and of a collection. The students enjoy the hands-on activity based lessons as learning by doing is the best way to develop understanding. Regular physical exercise assists in building self-discipline and disease prevention. An eight-week comprehensive Gymnastics program is a part of our Term Four PDHPE and students are thoroughly enjoying participating in these lessons. It is a great way of staying active, develop coordination and flexibility. The ‘Bring and Buy’ sale on Wednesday 13th November, was a huge success. Each year, Ashfield Public School gives an opportunity to its students to develop skills the process of buying and selling. The students bring pre-owned merchandise from home to sell in these stalls and thus raise some pocket money just in time for Christmas. Please follow us on Twitter for regular update! Term 4 Week 6 November 2019 Stage 3 Stage Page On Wednesday 13th November, Ashfield Public School held its annual Bring & Buy Sale. It was a very successful day where students had the opportunity to sell baked goods and other hand crafted items. Students then went back to their classes to discuss their costs and profit. Year 6 had their much awaited excursion to Canberra in Week 4. They visited many places including Questacon, The Australian War Memorial, The Australian Institute of Sport and Parliament House. Students also got to go bowling, play at many of the local parklands and spend valuable time with their friends. They learnt a lot about the Australian government and the federal voting process. It was such an exciting time for students and they were fabulous representatives for our school as we toured the sights of Canberra. On Tuesday 12th November students who offered a place at Ashfield in the OC class for Year 5 in 2020 participated in a fun-filled orientation morning. It was wonderful to see so many students engaging with others and having a fabulous time. Looking forward to seeing you all in 2020. Year 6 are beginning to prepare for their final weeks at Ashfield Public School. They have started to learn the Year 6 dance for a wonderful night of festivities at their Farewell Dinner. The Farewell Dinner will be on Wednesday 4th December at West Leagues Ashfield. On Friday, Albert represented Ashfield Public School at the State Spelling Bee finals. Albert placed second overall in the competition. Ashfield Public School is incredibly proud of his efforts. Well done to everyone who competed in the Premiers Spelling Bee competition. page 6 Follow us on Twitter @AshfieldPS
