Old Hokonui - Whiskey and Food Match Event Food curator Jude Taylor and MLT representative Bob Vercoe will present an early evening event celebrating Southland’s quirky and colourful grain spirit tradition – matched with game–based, and Prohibition-era cuisine in association with the Hokonui Moonshine Museum, Mataura Licensing Trust and Thomas Green Public House and Dining Room. Spirits from selected southern New Zealand providers will be featured, along with matched tapas style food from the wilds of inland and costal Southland. Featured of course will be Southland’s own ‘Old Hokonui’, but there will also be representatives from other southern distilleries presenting tastings of their new and exciting lines. Jude Taylor will infuse a wild flavour into her themed offerings and The Thomas Green Public House & Dining Room will provide a selection of matched food platters using prime Southland produce and whiskey infused delicacies. Finest southern craft beer and Central Otago wine will also feature. NZ Country Music Awards Savour the original melodies and rhythms of New Zealand’s emerging song writing talent and finest country music recording artists at the NZ Country Music Awards. You’ll get to walk the red carpet at this gala occasion and join in celebrating New Zealand’s brightest country music talent with a feast of performances from award finalists and special guests. After a glittering evening of entertainment, award winners are announced for the MLT Songwriting Award for best unrecorded song, the APRA Best Country Song award and the award for Recorded Music NZ Best Country Artist. Buskers be in to WIN up to Enter at gorenz.com Freeze Ya’ Bits Off Busking Buskers take to the streets to sing and play tunes from their favourite country genre, lured by two $1000 prizes and a total prize pool of more than $3000. Strolling the streets to soak up the buskers’ home-grown talents is as entertaining as entering the competition yourself, or with friends, to sing or play a country song or two. The event kicks off with a schools’ busking competition on Thursday, before buskers of any age strut their stuff in the town centre on Friday and Saturday. The top 10 acts perform at a finals event where prize winners are announced. The finals are staged with the weather in mind: a rugged-up crowd warmed by outdoor heaters, with BBQ food and mulled wine available at the Thomas Green. It’s all part of the `street party’ atmosphere. MLT NZ Gold Guitar Awards Join in and celebrate raw country music talent at New Zealand’s greatest country music event, the NZ Gold Guitar Awards. For almost half a century, hundreds of amateur country musicians of all ages have travelled to Gore, Southland, to compete for the coveted Gold Guitar Award. Three days of auditions and spectacular finals night events showcase the best in junior, intermediate and senior categories. There’s a country music showcase concert that’s part of the 40 plus and 60 plus final, where a stand-out country music contributor is inducted into the Country Music Hands of Fame. The Gold Guitar winner receives a comprehensive prize package to set them on the road to country music stardom. Hands of Fame: As a tribute to honour people who’ve made a significant contribution to New Zealand country music, a Hands of Fame was established by the Gore Country Music Club in 1992. Over the years wonderful artists have been honoured with a handprint cast in concrete at the Hands of Fame including Kenny Rogers, Slim Dusty, Patsy Rigger, Garner Wayne Suzanne Prentice, Ricky Skaggs and Jade Hurley. This year Kylie Harris and Paddy Long will be inducted into the Hands of Fame.
