Evans on top in Porsche
GT3 Cup Australia
Australian based Kiwi Jaxon Evans dominated the penultimate round of the
2016 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli at his home
track, Queensland Raceway.
The Gold Coast local put on a stunning show, taking pole position and winning all
three races of the weekend in the Porsche One-Make Series including the feature
40 lap endurance race to claim the Jim Richards Endurance Trophy. Evans built a
commanding four second lead in the opening stages of the Saturday’s 40 lap race
until the safety car interrupted proceedings with just 10 laps left to run.
Evans has now closed the gap to championship leader, Hardeman, to just 20
points (in the Professional Class, 23 points in the Outright standings), leaving the
Queenslander in strong contention for the championship with 90 points still up for
grabs at the final round at Phillip Island in September.

Fifty historic race cars
from overseas to compete
in New Zealand
Five New Zealand motor racing circuits will feature in a world-wide celebration
of historic racing when the Formula Junior Diamond Jubilee reaches our
shores in January and February 2017.
More than 50 historic Formula Junior single-seater race cars from overseas
are expected to be shipped to New Zealand, as part of the international 50th
anniversary celebrations of the motor racing formula that started in Italy in 1958.
The international competitors join around 30 locally-owned Formula Junior cars
to race at the north Waikato’s Hampton Downs, Taupo, Christchurch, Timaru and
Invercargill racing circuits.
As a historic racing category, Formula Junior has a huge following globally. In New
Zealand, the Formula Junior Register details the vehicles and tracks the often
impressive provenance of the cars.
The Formula Junior Diamond Jubilee celebrations began earlier this year with races
in South Africa, which then moved to Europe over the past few months with several
New Zealanders transporting their cars to race at prestigious events such as the
Historic Monaco Grand Prix. The celebratory world tour reaches Australia in October
and November this year before moving to New Zealand in January and February
2017, then going on to North America and finishing in Europe in 2018.

Rangiora’s Ari Pettigrew defied all the odds
Ari Pettigrew finished 4th in his second ever rally event
to finish a stunning fourth in the Catlins
Coast Rally after starting 62nd on the road.
In atrocious conditions, drivers battled snow and
ice over the six high-speed special stages. While
many of the fancied front-runners struggled,
Pettigrew was in a league of his own as he tore
up the leader board in his BMW 318Ti, to be in
second place by the end of the second closed
road test. In just his second-ever rally event,
the 17-year-old was never fazed by his sudden
rise and it was only over the final two tests that
he slipped back to finish fourth, a mere seven
!

Of the six special stages that made up the Catlins
Rally, the longer stages suited the youngster
best. Taking advantage of the front drivers
