ALEX NOREN Interview Due to a wrist injury Alex Noren only managed to play two tournaments in 2014. Since his return the IMG Client has been in great form, winning in 2016 the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, Omega European Masters, British Masters and finally the Nedbank Golf Challenge. 2016, what an incredible year. How would you summarise What schedule will you play in 2017? the past few months? The first thing I will concentrate on is being able to play in the majors Incredible is a good word. I think it is important to start with the birth and the WGCs. This is the first time I can prepare correctly for each of my daughter, as she arrived before any of my wins! As amazing of those tournament which is a nice feeling. as the 4 victories are, that is definitely the biggest thing that’s happened I have been lucky in the past that I have played well in some qualifying to me this year. Also, I believe she has played a very big role in my results events and have been able to play The Open and US Open a few times, too, as it gives you different priorities and has maybe changed the way as well as playing the USPGA a couple of times off my world ranking, I think about things, like practice. but this year is the first time I start the season knowing I will be in each of these events so I can prepare in the right way. I am really looking Do you practice differently now? forward to playing The Masters for the first time, which I am sure I don’t know about differently, as I still have the same goals and most people would say! the same coach, the same team, but I have less free time so need to be more structured. Before I was very interested in as much coaching and Will you still play as much in Europe? as much practice as possible, the position of the golf club during the Yes, the European Tour has been really good to me. I like playing here swing, and could spend hours on a particular element. Now I know and my family are here in Sweden. I now have the chance to play a little I only have a set amount of time each day and am probably focused more in the US and I’m looking forward to that but I will continue on outcome and consistency. to play in Europe. Do you think that practising was one of the causes of your injury? It’s an usual thing in golf that as your world ranking improves you can play in more tournaments, but because you are able to play all of the It’s hard to know. Maybe I just didn’t have strong wrist bones! bigger tournaments, you can actually choose to play less events in total. All I would say, is that I know practising a little smarter definitely Being able to choose which events to play and group events together is a reduces the chance of being injured again. I have been without pain real privilege, but it’s also a great opportunity to play a sensible schedule for a full season now so hopefully that continues. which allows you to maintain a good world ranking. You were in the Top 50 before the injury, but during your recovery and after the injury did you believe becoming a Top 10 player was @Alex_Noren still possible? I don’t think that ever changed. I have always wanted to be a Top 10 player, and believed I can continue to improve in the next twelve months. I think, like lots of people when you are out for such a long period of time, you will have doubts and have odd minutes when you worry the injury isn’t going to repair fully but now I’m fit, I am really positive about the next few years. 14 | ALEX NOREN ALEX NOREN | 155

LONDON GOLF CLUB LONDON GOLF CLUB KEITH PELLEY An interview with the European Tour’s Chief Executive What are your expectations for the new Rolex Series? I said when we announced the Rolex Series that it was one of the most significant announcements in the 44 year history of the European Tour and I believe it will be transformational for us – a game-changer. For the players it will mean improved prize funds and enhanced World Ranking and Ryder Cup points, while at the same time offering greater experiences at the tournaments for them, their teams and their families.
