Issue 8, Fall 2019 Heritage Happenings Creating a self-care plan that works for you: By: VCHS’ Heritage Program Therapist Macaela Haas, PLMHP Over the summer months it feels like time is moving quickly, soon enough school is back in session and holidays are around the corner. No matter where you are in life, self-care mat- ters. Self-care is a unique concept that al- lows us to think about our own needs. For me, when I have accomplished a lot during the week, I enjoy sitting on the couch and watching a classic movie. After allowing myself permis- sion to take some time to enjoy a movie, my mindset and energy are transformed into something wonder- ful. When we feel overworked, our energy decreases and our negative thoughts flourish. quiet time before jumping into the next laugh. Crafting With Heritage By: Heritage Techs Cheryl Hulinsky and Carrie Petska Pinewheels make great summer decorations! You will need: • Sheets of decorative/construc- tion paper cut square • Scissors • Glue • Pencil • Ruler • Brads • Straw/stick (optional) Step #1 Start with your square paper. Using the ruler, draw 2 lines-diagonal from corner to corner creating an X. Step #2 From each corner make a small line 2/3’s of the way to the center of the paper. With your scissors cut along the X lines from the corner toward the center, Step #4 Glue the stick to stopping at the 2/3’s line the back and decorate you drew. Repeat to all as you wish.
