Rules 1. EVENT SPONSORS, ORGANIZERS, PROMOTERS, STAFF, and anyone having anything to do with this event ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SAFETY OR WELL BEING. We cannot stress this strongly enough…YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU! 2. Each participant is considered to be on a private excursion and remains solely responsible for any accidents in which he or she may be involved. No responsibility can be accepted for participants becoming lost, stranded, injured… or worse. 3. Be courteous and respectful at all times. Participants must obey all city, county, and state laws, and “Rules of the Road”. 4. Each route will have several checkpoints where riders must check-in. There will be a cutoff time based on 10 mph. Any participant not reaching a checkpoint before the cutoff time will not be allowed to continue. Cutoff times are established for the purpose of rider safety. These times will be strictly enforced. 5. Official checkpoints along the route will serve as neutral areas where event participants may meet their support crew to restock supplies and repair equipment. These checkpoints will be the only locations along the course where participants may receive assistance from their support crew. 6. Support Crews are not allowed on course, except to pick up a rider who is abandoning the event. 7. Participants are required to wear a properly approved helmet at all times while operating their bicycle. 8. Each participant is required to have a clear front headlamp and a red tail light for the duration of the event. At race start and if continuing after dark participants are required to have a clear front headlamp capable of navigating in the dark (minimum 500 lumens) and a red tail light. Additional lighting may be attached to helmet or bike at official check points. (90 and 50 mile course riders do not need lights). 9. Be careful and take care of yourself! Your safety is up to you. Bring plenty of food and hydration. Cellular service may not always be available, but we highly recommend carrying a cell phone in a waterproof cover to contact someone in case of an emergency. Carry spare inner tubes, inflation system, and multi tool with chain breaker.
What to expect on race day • All SAG stations (Checkpoints) will be fully stocked with water, sports drink, and a wide variety of food. Gels, bars, and sports drink will be provided courtesy of Hammer Nutrition. • A truck will be available for drop bags Friday night and Saturday morning. Drop bags will be located at the Montreal checkpoint. • Throughout the course you may run into a few random oasis’. They could have water, but they’ll probably just have bacon. Make sure you’re topping off your water at the SAG station. • In the unlikely chance we have dangerously high water crossings on race day, an alternative rain route will be used for all Epic Race and Epic Adventure participants. We recommend downloading this file to your GPS computer just in case. • The elevation gain listed on the GPS files are pure lies! There will be a lot more elevation gain than predicted by the GPS. A reasonable estimate for actual elevation gain is to double the listed amount. • After the race we’ll have plenty of food and beer for all. Bring cash for food and we’ll get your first beer. Bring cash for more beer as well! • Must be present at race to be eligible for raffle (we’ll hold your prize if you’re still on course).
