EPIC FINAL BATTLES IN WACKERSDORF
The FIA Karting event in Wackersdorf kept its promises right to the end. The final qualifying heats
on Sunday morning had set the tone. The battles were lively in every race and the fight for victory
was intense in all three categories. Senna van Walstijn (NLD) won the KZ2 final in style to round off
his superb overall performance. Second until then, Reno Francot (NLD) won the FIA Karting Academy
Trophy final. Finally, Riccardo Longhi (ITA) obtained a superb victory in the FIA Karting European Cham-
pionship - KZ after holding off Emilien Denner (FRA).
The weather was not as hot as the day before, and the sky had become overcast. The conditions were clearly excellent for
a spectacular and suspenseful competition. The tension was already perceptible during the closing qualifying heats and the
incidents multiplied due to the impulsiveness of some participants. The German circuit confirmed its selectivity and enabled
intense sporting confrontations.
Francot takes the lead in the Academy Trophy
Yevan David (LKA), who had been a solid leader until then with two victories, retired on the first lap of the C-D heat on Sunday
morning and the face of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy was turned upside down. Reno Francot (NLD) was able to take the
lead in the final, but Salim Hanna (COL) led for five laps. The young Dutch driver managed to take over the lead halfway
through the race and led the race to victory. Salim Hanna (COL) secured second place despite the return of Dion Gowda
(SGP) from 9th on the grid to the third step of the podium. However, David showed his competitiveness by moving up seven
places to fourth ahead of the surprising Darius Babaiona (ROU) who moved up 10 places.
Francot said: «I am very happy to participate in this competition where all the drivers use the same equipment. I was fast from
the beginning of the weekend and everything went well. The start of the final was tricky as Salim attacked me on the 4th lap.
I stayed focused so as not to make any mistakes and I overtook him before increasing my lead until the finish.»

Senna van Walstijn unbeaten in KZ2
The young Senna van Walstijn (NLD - Sodi/TM Racing/MG) started by adding a fifth victory in his last qualifying heat on
Sunday morning. A logical favourite for the final of this first round of the FIA Karting European Championship - KZ2, he was
able to regain the advantage over Giacomo Pollini (ITA - CRG/TM Racing/MG) who had jumped out of the blocks at the
start of the race. After four laps under the «slow» procedure to clear the track after a collective collision, the race resumed

more than two seconds ahead of Pollini. Laurens van Hoepen (NLD - Birel ART/TM Racing/MG) took the third step on the
podium, while Leonardo Marseglia (ITA - KR/Iame/MG) finished fourth and Paavo Tonteri (FIN - CRG/TM Racing/MG) fifth.
In the words of the winner: «I am very happy to have obtained my best result ever. The whole weekend was fantastic thanks
to the work of the CPB Sport team who have been supporting me since last year. I was wary of Pollini and van Hoepen for
the final, because I knew they were very fast. I had the ideal kart to win and I did it. I know that this might not be the case in
the next race because it is difficult to dream of such a perfect meeting, but I am still very confident.»

Longhi wins a thrilling KZ final
Émilien Denner (FRA - Intrepid/TM Racing/MG) had the best odds at the start of the final of the first round of the FIA Karting
European Championship - KZ after his pole position and his domination confirmed by a third victory on Sunday morning.
Everything was settled at the start of the decisive race. Riccardo Longhi (ITA - Birel ART/TM Racing/MG) got off to a perfect
start to the race, while Denner found himself in a worse position, fourth behind Jérémy Iglesias (FRA - CRG/TM Racing/MG)
and Alex Irlando (ITA - CRG/TM Racing/MG). The suspense was in seeing if Denner could close the gap. He was not far
behind, always the fastest on the track and not making any mistakes. But Longhi managed to keep a sufficient margin to win
under the chequered flag. Irlando took third place ahead of Stan Pex (NLD - KR/TM Racing/MG) who made an impressive
comeback from ninth on the grid. Adrien Renaudin (FRA - Sodi/TM Racing/MG) also had a great final, reaching the top five
with a gain of five places.
Longhi did not hide his joy on the podium: «I knew that my only chance to win was to make a better start than Denner. Once
I took that crucial step, I had to get as much of a lead as possible while he passed the two drivers between us. I gave it my
all every moment of the race without giving a single glance to my mechanics. We were not as confident as we wanted to be
on this track. I fought from start to finish against a very strong opponent. This victory is a bit unexpected, but it is fantastic for
me and for the whole Birel ART Racing team after a difficult weekend.»

L’épreuve FIA Karting de Wackersdorf a tenu ses promesses jusqu’au bout. Les dernières manches
qualificatives disputées dimanche matin avaient donné le ton. Les batailles ont animé tous les échelons
de chaque course tandis que la lutte pour la victoire a été intense dans les trois catégories. Senna van
Walstijn (NLD) s’est imposé magistralement dans la finale KZ2 pour conclure en beauté sa superbe
prestation globale. Second jusque-là, Reno Francot (NLD) s’adjugeait la finale du Trophée Académie FIA
Karting. Enfin, Riccardo Longhi (ITA) obtenait une superbe victoire dans le Championnat d’Europe FIA
Karting – KZ après avoir su résister à Émilien Denner (FRA).
Le temps était moins chaud que la veille, mais le ciel s’était couvert. Les conditions étaient manifestement excellentes pour
vivre une compétition spectaculaire et pleine de suspens. La tension était déjà perceptible lors des dernières manches quali-
ficatives et les incidents se multipliaient sous l’impulsivité de certains participants. Le circuit allemand confirmait sa sélectivité
et permettait d’assister à des confrontations sportives intenses.
Francot prend la tête du Trophée Académie
Solide leader jusque-là avec ses deux victoires, Yevan David (LKA) abandonnait dès le premier tour de la manche C-D
dimanche matin et la physionomie du Trophée Académie FIA Karting s’en trouvait bouleversée. C’est en effet Reno Francot
(NLD) qui pouvait partir en tête de la finale, mais Salim Hanna (COL) lui ravissait la première place pendant cinq tours. Le
jeune Néerlandais réussissait à reprendre les commandes à mi-parcours et menait la course jusqu’à la victoire. Salim Hanna
(COL) assurait la deuxième position malgré le retour de Dion Gowda (SGP) depuis la 9e position sur la grille jusqu’à la
troisième marche du podium. David montrait cependant sa compétitivité en progressant de sept places jusqu’à la 4e position
devant l’étonnant Darius Babaiona (ROU) remonté de 10 places.
Francot a déclaré : « Je suis très heureux de participer à cette compétition dans laquelle tous les pilotes utilisent le même
matériel. J’ai été rapide dès le début du week-end et tout s’est bien passé. Le début de la finale a été délicat puisque Salim
m’a attaqué dans le 4e tour. Je suis resté concentré pour ne pas faire d’erreur et je l’ai dépassé avant d’accentuer mon
avance jusqu’à l’arrivée ».

des feux. Après quatre tours sous la procédure “slow“ pour dégager la piste après un accrochage collectif, la course repre-
nait ses droits et van Walstijn avait le champ libre pour distancer progressivement ses rivaux. Il franchissait la ligne d’arrivée
en vainqueur avec un nouveau meilleur temps plus de deux secondes devant Pollini. Laurens van Hoepen (NLD - Birel ART/
TM Racing/MG) montait sur la 3e marche podium tandis que Leonardo Marseglia (ITA - KR/Iame/MG) terminait 4e et Paavo
Tonteri (FIN - CRG/TM Racing/MG) 5e.
Le mot du vainqueur : « Je suis particulièrement ravi d’avoir obtenu mon meilleur résultat à ce jour. Tout le week-end a été
fantastique grâce au travail de l’équipe CPB Sport qui me soutient depuis l’an dernier. Je me méfiais de Pollini et van Hoepen
pour la finale, car je les savais très rapides. J’avais le kart idéal pour gagner et je ne m’en suis pas privé. Je sais que ce ne
sera peut-être pas le cas lors de la prochaine course parce que l’on peut difficilement rêver d’un meeting aussi parfait, mais
je reste très confiant ».

Longhi s’impose au terme d’une finale KZ haletante
Émilien Denner (FRA - Intrepid/TM Racing/MG) avait la meilleure cote au départ de la finale de la première épreuve du
Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting – KZ après sa pole position et sa domination confirmée par une troisième victoire
dimanche matin. C’est au départ de la course décisive que tout s’est joué. Riccardo Longhi (ITA - Birel ART/TM Racing/MG)
s’élançait parfaitement à l’extinction des feux tandis que Denner se retrouvait en moins bonne posture, quatrième derrière
Jérémy Iglesias (FRA - CRG/TM Racing/MG) et Alex Irlando (ITA - CRG/TM Racing/MG). Le suspense consistait à voir si
Denner allait pouvoir combler son retard. Il n’en a pas été loin, toujours le plus rapide en piste et ne commettant pas d’erreur.
Mais Longhi a réussi à conserver une marge suffisante pour s’imposer sous le damier. Irlando prenait la troisième place
devant Stan Pex (NLD – KR/TM Racing/MG) auteur d’un retour impressionnant depuis la 9e position sur la grille. Adrien
Renaudin (FRA - Sodi/TM Racing/MG) réussissait également une belle finale en atteignant le top 5 avec un gain de cinq
places.
Longhi ne cachait pas sa joie sur le podium : « Je savais que ma seule chance de gagner était de prendre un meilleur départ
que Denner. Une fois que j’ai réussi cette étape cruciale, il fallait que je prenne le plus d’avance possible pendant qu’il
dépassait les deux pilotes qui nous séparaient. J’ai donné le maximum à chaque instant de la course sans jeter un seul regard
à mes mécaniciens. Nous n’étions pas aussi confiants que nous le souhaitions sur ce tracé. Je me suis battu du début à la fin
