| PRESIDENT’S LETTER Dear Member, T’S SUMMERTIME and we have many new events and activities to keep you busy. I hope you’ll participate in as many as you possibly can. Summertime Tuesdays began in food and beverage last month with our dinner buffet served in Panache. Once a month, we will open on a Tuesday evening for dinner. More details appear on page 7. Trivia Challenge is back and Jukebox Bingo makes its Happy Hour debut this month. Dueling Pianos, the ever popular sing-a-long with “The Piano Guys”, returns in July. Details appear on page 17. Turn to page 18 to read about more summer activities including an afternoon lecture, a resin art workshop and a paint your pet class. We’re bringing Club favorite, Jenene Caramielo, back in July and a psychic medium, Jeffrey Wands, will be here in August. New this summer in golf is our Social 9 and Dines. Details appear on page 13. As you can see, you’re going to be busy this summer. Plan to join us for the 151st running of The Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 8 at 5pm in Onyx Lounge. We’ll have specially priced Mimosas, Belmont Breezes and White Carnations, the official drink of The Belmont Stakes. Last month it was all about our “Moms”. This month we celebrate all our “Dads” at our Father’s Day Sunday Brunch on June 16. Reservations are available by calling 483-6300. We’ll be serving many of dad’s favorites along with a complimentary bloody mary just for him! Plans are underway for our final two holiday celebrations, Independence Day on Wednesday, July 4 and Labor Day on Monday, September 2. Bring your family and friends for these great summer celebrations and don’t forget to tell the kids to stop by the card rooms to partake in all the activities. Our behind the scenes work began last month with the staff doing our annual repair and maintenance in the different restaurants and kitchens. We close each building for a period of time during the summer months while business is slower so not to disrupt your daily schedule. We will continue our work in all areas of the Club to make sure we’re in top shape for the 2019/20 activities and events. In addition to our normal repairs and maintenance, I will also continue to update you on the summer renovations at the Sports Center. You will begin seeing work start in the month of July with as little inconvenience as possible. We plan to shut down the Fitness Center and Spa for most or possibly all of August as well as the month of September. We’re currently working on an agreement with Busy Body Fitness Center for member usage while our facility is closed during that time. Aquatics will not be affected by this work. We will keep you posted through all of our communication avenues. The budgeting process for the 2019/2020 season has been in full swing for several weeks. This has been a challenging year, but I assure you that your budget committee and Department Heads have been working hard to present the Board the best budget possible without sacrificing any services or the quality of life you’ve come to expect. This month we will be hosting the Seminole Region Club Managers 29th Annual Charity Gala & Golf Tournament on June 9 and 10, 2019. The primary goal of this event is to raise the most amount of money possible to benefit local children’s charities which includes Special Olympics of Palm Beach County, SOS Children’s Village of Florida, Florence Fuller Child Development Centers, Place of Hope at The Leighan and David Rinker Campus, The Unicorn Children’s Foundation, 4Kids and The First Tee of the Palm Beaches. On behalf of the club manager’s tournament committee, I would like to say THANK YOU to the board of governors and membership for this opportunity to show off your incredible Club. I welcome and encourage your thoughts, comments and suggestions regarding your Club and look forward to seeing you around. Wishing all Fathers a very happy Father’s Day and a spectacular Fourth of July holiday. Sincerely, Matthew Linderman, CCM President, COO & General Manager B O C A W E S T 3

ON THE COURSES Recently Wes put out a video on the Dryjet system he employs on our greens. He showed how the technique effectively cuts through the thatch that builds up just below the surface (over time to a depth of four inches or more) and provides much needed nutrients to the green. The result—better overall health and better greens on which to putt. Are you following Nanna Koerstz Madsen our LPGA professional? She made the cut at this By Steve Forman year’s first major—the ANA Inspiration Golf Committee (formerly the Dinah Shore) and was in the last Chairman group on Sunday, April 28 at the Hugel Air Premia LA Open. She is definitely making progress and of course it is great to see her on TV. By the way, rumor has it she will be at Boca West at the end of June so if you see a young woman crushing the ball on the driving range that would be her. Or Pam Elders of course. As I am writing this article I was just informed that Pam did in fact qualify for the U.S. Senior Women’s Open at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club. GO PAM!!! Of course, by the time you read this article that event would have been held so you know the results. I hope everyone has congratulated Pam on her terrific accomplishment. Speaking of tournaments, on June 11-13 Boca West will be hosting the South Florida Region Junior PGA Tournament. It is for both boys and girls, ages 12-18. Players are flighted in age groups and the overall winners go to the 2019 National Junior PGA Championship to be held at the Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford Connecticut. Past winners of the South Florida Region have been Brooks Koepka and Lexi Thompson. Both have done pretty well as touring professionals. The tournament will be held on our Fazio II course and you can go out and watch these budding superstars. However, you will have to walk as E ARE RAPIDLY HEADING INTO SUMMER golf carts will not be permitted. and with that our summer course maintenance schedule. As I have said many times Wes Dinsmoor We continue to add golf activities for the summer. Thus far we our Golf Superintendent and his staff do a spectacular have a summer league, three holiday tournaments (Memorial job on our golf courses and a lot of the heavy lifting is done Day, Independence Day and Labor Day), a three-club over the summer. Each course goes through three tournament and a Greenskeeper’s Revenge Tournament. We maintenance cycles each summer so there is a lot of work to are now adding three Social Nines—July 11, August 9 and be done in a short amount of time. The benefit of course is the September 7. You will play a nine-hole tournament (format for great condition the courses are in during the rest of the year. each to be announced) and enjoy Happy Hour afterwards. Your entry fee will include one drink per person at Happy Hour. If you want to have dinner after Happy Hour that will be on you. As we move into summer don’t forget to work on your games and we have a fine cadre of professionals here who can help you. If you are up north you are on your own but that is no excuse. Remember all of the golf tips you got via email during the year are still available for reference. In any event get out there and practice. As always I am interested in your feedback and comments. You may email, sforman@strategicm.com or call, 488-8726. I look forward to hearing from you. 12 | J U N E / J U LY 2 019
