AN INDUSTRIAL CABARET a nomadic factory … A phalanstery of another time, probing a romantic nostalgia for the world of hard labor in which the human mechanic will be magnified! This show is nonsense, a full-fledged utopia: a GIANT ENTRESORT with 11 workers: actors and musicians, 360 minutes (6 hours per day) to 360° (area of 30m x 30m) with big music machines in popular theatrical imagery. In our group of artists-workers, we include a BILINGUAL COMEDIAN (French English), who was recruited for this specific occasion in order to make sure that the meaning of the spectacular speech is understandable from the audience that is gathered in the bleach (final opening & demonstration of the machines) or in the canteen (worker's atelier). This comedian will be in charge of interpreting instantly some parts of the dialogue. Some sequences will be translated (musical refrains, museum visits etc) by the workers themselves. There will be also many written texts in English : the book "historic of Dynamogène workshop", user manual for the function of the machines, detailed instructions in our exposition desk.. Basically, we are French-speaking workers, but we wish to convey the meaning of our stories to everyone, this is why we prioritise the gestures and the music. This creation is a subtle combination of human reflexes and technology on which falls the shadow of Jacques Tati - « Jour de Fête », and de Charlie Chaplin - « Modern times ». 2
SPECIAL EVENT: Open House of the Dynamogène Workshop, maker of musical boxes since 1859. In an ambiance of « garage à musique », surrounded by machines and tools, close to the work desk and design table, one can find some of the most symbolic creations of this illustrious house. Today, the day of never, the factory is set in motion and there’s a lot of hustle and bustle. One worker methodically checks nuts and bolts, his colleague frantically polishes an anvil, almost to absurdity, while the foreman announces to visitors the next demonstration of machine No. 3 in Workshop B-2. On occasion, you can visit our socket wrench collection of 12, look at the sketchbooks and admire some prototypes. Some machines are out in the open for you to play with! Here and there, some silly workers are preparing surprises... Follow the program or let your curiosity wander… Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the wonderful world of work!! Line production, a small mechanical workshop, musical clocks, we are in a factory of another time. And yet… in a world, sometimes futurist and antiquated, obsolete, like coming from nowhere and yet seems familiar. You no longer remember but you forgot nothing; Industrial memory, handmade, smell of cold metal. Go ahead, use the soap of Marseille or the Arma ® paste, the trace of grease on your hands remains indelible, deeply rooted in permanent filigree. Though they relocate or close the company, the tradition persists and resists. Beyond the struggles, the well organized union’s strikes, tires that burn in front of the entry door, the aroma of the morning coffee break, the discussion among the colleagues, and the smirk of the time clock, which regulates this sublime descent to hell, accompanying us to the tomb, from the other side of the surrounding wall. Nostalgia for an epoch, invented and dreamt about, we enlist ourselves for an anachronistic tradition that sometimes borders on folly. We are nothing, or very little, we, the rest, who come to interpret most sincerely for you this symphony out of synch, We are workers. 3
A PLACE OF PLAY IN THE HEART OF CITIES Daily capacity: 2000 people. Flux maximum : 400 people Duration: 6 hours We can also perform a condensed version of 2 hours and 30 minutes The show requires spaces like public places. It can also be done under covered halls, open to the four winds of the city center, friches, old factories, barns… The space should be flat, with a surface of about 30m x 30m, in order to integrate the public and the set. The show, designed like a giant entresort, comprised of a single entrance/exit. The arena is both a space for discovery, inspection, like a museum from another generation (collections to see, archives to consult, a display of photos, machines to play with), and some theatrical and musical plays. The aesthetic of the group is presented under the form of “antiquated futurism” « 1984 » (film) THE PUBLIC The Little Catalogue is a large-scale entresort with intervals of free visit. A spectator exits, leaving space for a new entrant, following a continuous flow. Through the acting, the decoration, the smell, the noise of our imaginary factory, we resuscitate a dreamlike and industrial atmosphere that takes one by the throat move them deeply. 4 ways of interpretation: A passerby, loiters, browses sketches, machineries, photos, archives, moves to the factory canteen, drinks and observes the hard-working atmosphere of the place. Participant, active, he manipulates some toy machines made available to them… turns the handle, pushes a button… open to be surprised… Obedient spectator, seated on the benches, he attends the short theatrical and mechanical- musical sessions Lucky spectator, he is randomly surprised by a poetical impromptu from a corner of the factory. The space of play conjures the global vision of the works presented and induces connections: mass and individual, skills/knowledge and the pleasure, frustration of not being able to see everything… Therefore, no official guide, no obligation, no arrows, some hints, some suggestions and through the PA, we inform, misinform deliberately… The workers are there to steer, to gather, to disperse the public. Signboards, voices, barriers, lighting, machineries that, like mermaids, call to the wreck, we will call it all: the management of the mess, or “ The Theory of Bordel Ambiant” dear to Roland Moréno 4
NON-EXHAUSTIVE INVENTORY OF THE FACTORY NOOKS ENTRANCE GATE, Large metal gate (rusty sheet metal), 2 panels, cubbyhole with punch clock, telephone, personal belongings… Marcel, a worker who speaks well, welcomes the public with his legendary eloquence, and our colleague, Joseph, explains how it works. The ambiance is set… DESIGN OFFICE: Hangar of corrugated galvanized sheet metal (5m x 2m50) a cabinet of mechanical curiosities, a real mess visible through a window and the possibility to enter by the front door. Candles, scents, strange and universal memories… At Pompon’s place, whimsical designer alchemist. Whispered discussions, cave mad & poetic where ideas germinate. Autopsy of an anvil & random visits. It’s a powerhouse. You have to merit it! BIKE PILE, Some very old bike corps in unpleasant position… Metal inertia invitation to meditation... doubles as a stock of raw materials. 5
INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM, Hangar in corrugated galvanized metal sheets (5m x 2m50), free entry or guided tour, There are things to read, see and hear. You can sit… Visits are scheduled every 10 minutes. Portrait gallery of the workers, obsolete prototype, cathode- retrospective, short demonstrations, official historical book (3 pages). Possibility of a guided tour by Octave or someone else. Sometimes, the museum hosts clandestinely the punk- workers of the « hostile cabaret », some rascals who act incognito at the perverted initiative of colleague Boran. MECHANICAL DISTRIBUTOR, Authentic! Escaped from a 70’ funfair, it really works with 2€ coins... it’s a bit of a rip off… "Pleasure of Giving." For not too much, a real cardboard box including an unforgettable souvenir of the past of the factory. Invest in fun! WORKSHOP Workbench, covered (corrugated metal sheet), fully equipped (vise, drill press…), industrial ads, announcement of demonstrations... And our famous ... and authentically ancient "Automatic Saw" that prepares scrap washers. Emile and Lucien activate it with bravery. Beware, it really works, it's hot and it cuts! 6
AT VICTOR’S … An exhibit of musical tools, 2 peg boards (4m x 1.50m) Many accessories and glorious pictures of Hollywood time ... Victor Guzo, musical toolmaker master, talkative-worker, traveller and polyglot, tells beautiful and amazing stories, sometimes improvises some memorable concerts. By invitation only. THE GARAGE, Space defined by pegs and removable rope, information sheet for each machine. Where the 4 glorious mobile music machines (jewels of our prestigious House) are parked. Namely : The Cymbalobylette, real mechanical battucada… The Modern Aérophone, ancestor of the Juke-Box … The Klaxonarion, techno cycling… The Torprdo Swing, the origins of Rock’n’Roll … Our colleague Pépin with his alcoholic accordion, never short of a mechanical anecdote, is scrubbing the gears. CAFE, A booth with corrugated iron roof and zinc bar (real piano bar), distributor of bolts (formerly peanuts), 2 tables & 8 chairs, large parasol, motorcycle. You can sit and read the Journal de l’Usine written, edited and distributed by the exotic Giuseppe. You can listen to good music and rest. It is here, at this proletarian café that runs the cabaret where each worker will show, with malice and poetry his hidden talent. Not to miss! GAMES TOWER, Kiosk of corrugated metal sheets and tubes (L1.50m x W1.50m x H2.50m) The public can manipulate freely... For little ones and adults. Boneless piano with percussive pedals, wheel of fortune, & tac-tac. It turns, it creaks, it scratches the aluminum, it zzzgouic. Unwind yourself with moderation! . REHEARSAL MUSIC STAND A partition-stand, a platform, 2 stools… Mr.Galin is preparing a musical surprise accompanied, unfortunately, by Gigi & Pompon and the whole gang. They do the best they can ... 8

On this occasion, the choir will sing its famous anthem and the band will brilliantly respond with its greatest success: "Muscle Energy, Rotary Movement." Beforehand, some checks, tuning and testing will be done with the help of the monumental ear of Albert and the exceptional know-how of some of his colleagues. PLACE OF PERFORMANCES, Space in front of the fACTORy#, bleacher (6 sets of 3 benches) … Such an arena, like the trail of a mechanical circus, it welcomes the legendary musical demonstrations of our machines. At the right time, take a seat on the bleachers that René struggles to polish since the beginning of time, and appreciate the true value of our mechanical-musical ingenuity! and, here and there, frames with mathematical formulation written in chalk, panels with charts & technical nomenclatures : springs, keys & different geometry. Cans, cartons disemboweled disgorging of metal cans, bicycle, radios, little announcements & advertising posters ... 9
