Love Your Enemy: The Grace of Forgiveness Throughout the Gospels Jesus Christ commands us to both love and forgive our neighbor, but he does not stop there. He extends this command to our enemies as well. Join me as we discuss the “enemies” we have in our lives and the steps we can take to bring healing and reconciliation to these relationships. FORMED: An online dynamic Catholic resource. Leading a Grow Group within our Parish and always seeking to further both our personal relationship with Jesus and education of our Catholic faith, we are especially thankful to have Formed as a free resource provided by our Parish. Formed offers a massive library of content from movies, to mini-series, audio books, and other engaging media to support Catholic learning and lifestyles. The resources to be found within the Formed library seem limitless, but we have especially enjoyed content regarding the sacraments including “Forgiven: The Transforming Power of Confession” and “Presence: The Mystery of the Eucharist”, and have used this content as a basis of our Grow Group discussions. Signing up is easy, the content is readily available and always refreshed; and you can even stream content on your smart TV to enjoy with a full room of viewers. - Erica Hinds Formed can be accessed by visiting shbroussard.org, under the Media Resources tab or by visiting formed.org/signup
WHAT IS RCIA? RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, in which adults become members of the Catholic Church. Catechumens (or candidates) attend regularly scheduled meetings with an RCIA Team to discuss teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church. They are taught the importance of having a strong prayer life, the role of the Virgin Mother Mary, the many facets of the Mass, the Saints, and how we worship Jesus Christ. Catechumens are encouraged to study the Gospel to strengthen their relationship with God and profess their faith in Jesus Christ. Once all meetings are held, catechumens begin preparing for the Easter Vigil where they receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation. Who can go through the RCIA Program? • A Catholic individual who was baptized, but never received First Communion and Confirmation. • A Catholic individual who was baptized and received First Communion and Confirmation but wants to learn more about their faith. • A non-Catholic who has never been baptized. • A non-Catholic individual who wants to convert to Catholicism. • A non-Catholic individual who was baptized in another Christian denomination but wants to become a member of the Catholic Church. • A Catholic or non-Catholic with reservations. BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN You can be a part of helping to end abortion in your commu- nity, give hope to a woman facing an unexpected pregnancy and give life to an unborn child. To end abortion it takes more than telling the young lady who has an unplanned pregnancy that she should not have an abortion. From a practical standpoint, as well as from a Chris- tian charity standpoint, we must do all in our power to help her through this pregnancy. Through this campaign you can help provide counseling, pregnancy tests, ultrasound exams (with consultation), adop- tions, parenting and nutrition workshops, assistance with baby items and mothers items, Medicaid applications, Gabriel Angels, chastity programs, post abortion healing and some financial assistance. And in 2009 we added the services of a maternity home. All these services are free for the those who need our services and/or qualify for the maternity home. Most will decide not to have an abortion and chose life for their unborn child. You can save a LIFE today and have fun doing it with a Baby Bottle Campaign. It’s easy! Simply take the empty Baby Bottles from the Narthex after mass. Then return the bottles next week when you come to mass or in the church office with the returned donation! Remember to keep the 25% Off Coupon rolled inside thebottle and redeem at Baby & Me Boutique to SAVE MONEY & SAVE BABIES!
BISHOP’S SERVICES APPEAL “Invisible in His own nature, He became visible in ours.” The words of Pope Leo encourage us to consider the images of Jesus Christ that we have come to know. We think of the Babe born in Bethlehem, the touch of the attentive Healer, the Good Shepherd, the Great Teacher, and the Savior of all lifted high on the cross. Each is a picture of divine purpose. In that same vein, view an image of humility and service-Jesus kneeling before the apostles, washing their feet just hours before His sacrifice. Such devotion, captured in the picture of a kneeling Savior, focuses on the needs of others, invites the faithful to take on the mantle of service, and inspires the theme of this year’s Bishop’s Services Appeal, Growing in Charity and Love. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 scsbluejays.org SAINT CECILIA SPOTLIGHT Each year St. Cecilia chooses two outstanding students to represent us on the Diocesan and State Level. Students in grades 5th and 8th with a minimum grade point average of 3.5 are eligible to compete in the Louisiana Student of the Year contest. Grades, along with ACT Aspire scores and teacher’s votes are tallied in order to compile a list of finalists in each grade level. The finalists for 5th grade Student of the Year are: · Slade Boudreaux · Harper Montz · Max Staples · Jaden Taylor · Sam Warren The 5th grade Student of the Year is Harper Montz. The finalists for 8th grade Student of the Year are: · Tyler Bellefleur · Kagan Boone · Becca Carluen · Carter Melancon · Kate Montet The 8th grade Student of The Year is Tyler Bellefleur. ACHIEVER / SUPPORTER OF THE YEAR Each year St. Cecilia choses an individual or individuals who exemplify what it means to be a true supporter of our school. This individual(s) should uphold the values of our school, and seek to help make us a beacon of light in our community. Our Achiever / Supporter of The Year award this year goes to two individuals who have devoted much time and energy investing in St. Cecilia. These individuals volunteer their time each year without complaint. Whether it is in the atrium, at the fair, or subbing in the classroom you can see at least one of their smiling faces. Each year this couple also offers a scholarship in their son’s name to one of our 8th graders. The love that these two have shown for St. Cecilia is second to none. I know they feel as though what they do is very small, however, to our school they are moving mountains! Therefore we are pleased to announce that our 2021-22 SCS Supporter of the year is Mr. Buddy and Mrs. Sybil Williamson. TEACHER OF THE YEAR In addition to honoring our Achiever /Supporter of the Year, the faculty and staff of St. Cecilia selects a Teacher of the Year. This person is someone chosen because their passion for education shines through in all that they do. This year’s educator is one who truly devotes her time to growing in her own abilities and helping students to reach their full potential. Her colleagues say she is always available to her students and willing to provide what they need to be successful in her class. She is dedicated to her students, achieves growth both professionally and personally, and always has an enthusiastic “what can I do to help?” attitude. One teacher says her devotion and commitment to her profession is seen as she goes above and beyond increasing her professional knowledge in math so that she can further educate her students. Her genuine love and concern for her students is evident in her daily walk with them. Her commitment to helping them to be Successful Christ-centered Students can be found in all aspects of her teaching ways!! She is a blessing to have at SCS!! Therefore, I am happy to announce that our St. Cecilia 2021- 2022 Educator of the Year is Mrs. Lacia Boudreaux!
