This means we are committed to being the best choice for dine-in, carryout, delivery or any other occasion for
every customer, everyday. Now that you're a member of our team, you'll hear a lot about Legendary Service--a
term we use to describe our standard for customer service. Through providing Legendary Service, we hope that
our customers will tell stories about the exceptional lengths you go to in order to fulfill their needs. You are the
most important person in ensuring our success in dealing with our customers everyday. So, your energy, smile

to these high standards will not only help to ensure Pizza Hut's continued success, but also give you the great
personal satisfaction of a job well done. I hope it will be as rewarding to you as I know it can be.
GETTING STARTED
We want you to feel welcome here at Pizza Hut, so we've developed an Employee Orientation Manual that
will provide you with the following information:
* An introduction to Pizza Hut
* An explanation of Pizza Hut policies and procedures
* Your job responsibilities and the performance appraisal process
* Safety rules and food handling procedures
This handbook will guide you through the orientation process. You and your trainer will review it together. When
you finish the orientation, there are pages at the back of this book that you must read, sign, and give to your
manager. The book is yours to take home and refer to whenever you need to.
THE PIZZA HUT STORY
Although pizza was introduced on the east coast by Italian immigrants at the turn of the century, it was the
drive and entrepreneurial spirit of two young Americans in the heartland of this country that made pizza one of
this country's favorite foods. When American GI's returned from World War II, they had acquired a taste for that
Italian delight, that pizza. By November 1957, The Saturday Evening Post reported that there were more than
18,000 pizzerias in America, each selling between 200 and 1,000 pizzas each week, and that a pizza ''craze''
was sweeping America. Clearly, pizza was an idea whose time had come. In 1958, brothers Frank and Dan
Carney of Wichita, Kansas were approached by a family friend who had recently read the Post article. She
suggested that they try opening a pizza parlor in a small building she owned. The Carneys borrowed $600 from
their mother, hired John Bender, (who had worked in a pizzeria), and purchased some secondhand equipment to
try their hand at this new enterprise. When it came time to name their business, the Carneys looked at the tiny
sign on the building. They wanted "pizza" in the name, which left room for a three letter word. A family member
remarked that the building was shaped like a hut - and "Pizza Hut" was born. On June 15, 1958, that first Pizza
Hut restaurant opened for business. Within a year, they were operating three Pizza Hut restaurants in Wichita,
and had plans for opening the first franchise restaurants in Topeka, Kansas. By 1962, there were 43 Pizza Hut
restaurants in operation. By 1968, the number had grown to 300. By 1971, Pizza Hut had grown to be the largest
pizza restaurant business in the world, both in sales and in number of restaurants. Why did it grow so quickly?
One reason is the enormously successful franchising system. Today, approximately 80% of the Pizza Hut
restaurants and delivery units in operation are franchise owned. In 1977, Pizza Hut merged with PepsiCo, Inc. By
joining PepsiCo, Pizza Hut joined with other industry leaders: Pepsi Cola brand soft drinks and Frito Lay brand
snack foods. And when combined with PepsiCo's other restaurant chains, Taco Bell and KFC, Pizza Hut is part
of the world's largest restaurant group, with more than 20,000 outlets worldwide. In 1997 Pepsico spun off the
restaurants into a new corporation called Tricon Global Restaurants. Finally, we've developed a marketing
strategy that is central to our success: give the customer what they want, when they want it, where they want it
and how they want it. At Pizza Hut that means our customers always have choices: they can eat a delicious pizza
in our dining room, take it with them to any location, enjoy it at shopping malls, or have it delivered directly to their
door. Pizza Hut is the biggest--and the best--pizza restaurant system in the world. With more than 9,000
locations around the globe, it's the undisputed leader of the pizza industry. We've become the best
because we've established a solid reputation for our high standards of product quality while becoming legendary
for our friendly, efficient service. We take pride in the high caliber of our employees. Through training and their
own initiative, our employees do more than just "satisfy" their customers. They "consistently demonstrate to
America that Pizza Hut is the best choice for every pizza occasion."

Important Tip Reporting Requirements

3
The Internal Revenue Service strictly enforces tip reporting requirements. It is important that you understand and
comply with the IRS requirements. If you fail to comply, the IRS can make you pay tax and penalty on tip income
that you did not earn. We recommend that you obtain detailed instructions of tip reporting requirements by
requesting your free copy of Publication 531 from the nearest IRS office or www.irs.gov. The following is a brief
summary of some of your tip reporting requirements. You must report all tips that you receive. You must keep a
daily record or other documentation to prove the amount of tip income you report. Entries should be dated and
made soon after the tips were received. The IRS can make you pay tax on the allocated tip amount if you fail to
keep a daily tip record (see "allocated tips" below). You must keep your daily tip record for three years after you
file your tax return. (The IRS generally has up to three years after your return is filed to question your tip
reporting.)
Allocated Tips
The IRS requires large food or beverage establishments, including Pizza Hut, to calculate allocated tips using
an IRS formula. The allocated tip amount must be reported to the IRS on the employee's annual Wage and
Tax Statement, Form W-2. The allocated tip amount represents the employee's share of 4%-8% (depending
on location) of dine-in restaurant sales minus the tips reported. If your reported tips exceed your 4%-8%
share, you would not receive allocated tips.
