Electric Vehicles: How to prepare.
This is a story in two parts.
1. Electric vehicles in general

2. How it relates to you
Electric Vehicles: How to prepare.
Aim:

To understand what an electric vehicle is,

             how to charge them,

            where to charge them,

and why you should be responsible for charging
                   them.
What is an electric vehicle?
Does it have a plug?

No.

But it puts it in context.

I’ve talked for a long time.

       Questions?
Part 2:

Now let’s talk about how all of this relates to you.
Why?
We don’t install petrol pumps
What kind of community do I want to live in?

What kind of community do I want to visit?
How many charging stations should I install?
Depends on the location

Infrastructure Practice Note
(Economic Development

How to install?
What hardware should we use?
Any – as long as it’s OCPP compliant in all
                 respects.
What about load management?
Don’t tie yourself down.

Make sure everything is open standards.
Who pays for power?
How do you monitor charging status?
How do you meter usage?
How do you charge?
How do you access EV Charging stations?
Now to the cool stuff.
Vehicle 2 Grid:

- Offer an incentive for your
  residents to return power
  back to your municipality

- Cut down on max demand
  costs

- Take advantage of solar
  output

- Take advantage of ToU tariffs

- Opens up possibilities for
  fleets
Car Share

- We are all moving to car share

- But with EVs, fueling is on site

- Interaction with V2G

- Do you want to control?

- What kind of business models
  work for fleet operators?
That’s a good place to end, and hopefully a good
                 place to start.

Let me know if we can help.
