PREFACE Welcome to the 2022 EAM-I Conference in Lyon, France. The conference is designed to foster an international exchange of management research and practice among scholars and managers from around the world. The first part of the 21st century has seen an increased use of digitalization and AI in the workplace. The changes have had a global impact, resulting in multiple industry disruptions. In essence, the ongoing transformation is a source of increasing debate about its current and future impact on society. In the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic, and as digitalization disrupts just about every aspect of life, new forms of the economy are emerging. Some experts argue that we are at the dawn of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In the fallout of the shift, several stakeholders are increasingly concerned about its impacts on work, jobs, health, safety, trust, security, sustainability, etc. As academics, we have an important role to play in contributing to and shaping the ongoing debate, while preparing our students to be tomorrow’s leaders. Lyon is the third-largest city and second-largest urban area of France. It is located in the country's east- central part at the confluence of the rivers Rhône and Saône, about 470 km south from Paris, 320 km north from Marseille and 56 km northeast from Saint-Étienne. The Lyon metropolitan area had a population of 2,265,375 in 2014, the 2nd largest urban area in France. The city is known for its cuisine and gastronomy, and historical and architectural landmarks; part of it is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Lyon was historically an important area for the production and weaving of silk. Scholars from 16 countries across four continents have contributed and are gathered to participate in this dialogue with each other. It is our hope that all would concur that the Program of this conference has stimulated your thinking and deepened your perspectives about the economic, cultural, technological, sustainability, and ethical factors that affect managers and leaders in the 21st century global economy. An array of academic studies, pedagogical discussions, executive presentations, panel discussions and site visits to diverse enterprises will facilitate the learning process. We hope the new perspectives gained here will stimulate your thinking and enable you to find innovative solutions for the complex problems in our world. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The collective effort of many people has made it possible for us to exchange ideas, discuss our work and build collaborative alliances here in Lyon, France. We thank you, as well, for submitting your scholarly work, providing thoughtful peer reviews and making time in your busy schedules to attend this conference. Our special thanks to our host institutions, emLyon and esdes, and the faculty and staff who have spent countless hours organizing the minute details of the conference logistics.
