The Eagle Gazette TYPES OF LOVE By: Paloma Vega Martinez Finally, we are in the month of love! Keeping in the theme of love, I decided to write about the di erent types of love we can celebrate during this month. It is a misconception that only couples can celebrate during this month. But guess what? at is not true. Everyone can celebrate because love doesn't just count for romantic love, like we o en believe. It is the most commonly mentioned, but there are other forms of love that deserve appreciation too. Parental love- the love of a parent, or anyone that serves as a parental gure to you. is is the rst form of love we experience when we come into the world. It should not just be celebrated on Mother or Father's day. I think this is the purest type of love. Seeing my mom happy makes me happy, doing nice things for her makes me feel good because I am showing her that I remember all the times her unconditional love was there for me and that it was not forgotten. Parents can mean someone di erent for everyone but, those who care for us are some of the most important people in our lives. Sibling love- this type of love is exactly as it sounds. e love you have for a sibling. If you do not have siblings, celebrate with someone that feels like they are and you consider family. Special family bonds can also be celebrated during this month. Spend extra time with them or share something with them. Friendship love- probably the one I see the most as a high schooler, is celebrating our friends during this month. It never goes unnoticed that every February, girls parade around school holding many red heart-shaped balloons, usually given by friends that like to receive and give presents. ey always look so happy to receive the gi s. We appreciate our friends, so we should show them what we do. Good friends do a lot for us. Romantic love- last but not least, the most commonly talked-about type of love is the one involving romantic attraction toward another person. If you have a sweetheart during this time, Good for you! ere is so much to do during this time for couples. Give them a special gi , it does not have to be big, it just has to come from the heart. Do not feel le out on this holiday's celebrations, Valentine's Day is about celebrating love, there is no discrimination because love is a feeling that knows no bounds.
The Eagle Gazette STORY TIME WITH ARLY Author: Arly Raya I am running towards the street when I hear someone yell, “STOP!” I turn around and see this woman who looks like she is in her late twenties, she looks oddly familiar, but I can’t seem to remember her. I walk towards her and she takes me to this huge brick house. There was no door to this house, so how are we going to get in? I thought. The woman looks at me and points to the window that seems very small. I looked at her confusingly but continued to walk towards it. I opened the window and went inside. Suddenly the window turned into a slide and the next thing I know, I am sliding down in the house. I fell on the floor but got up once I heard the woman coming down. I looked around the place and it looked all old and dusty. Someone should really clean up this place. The women came down, with a huge smile on her face. Then there was a knock on the door. Wait a minute didn’t this house not have a door? “Someone from your past is at the door, go open it.” The woman said in a very sweet yet creepy way. I was on my way to open the door when my alarm clock started ringing. I shut it up and went downstairs to see my mom cooking. “Morning mom,” I said. “Good afternoon Elizabeth.” My mom jokes. I rolled my eyes and answered, “Haha very funny. It’s...”, I looked up at the clock, “10 o'clock.” My mom laughed. “What are you making? It smells good.” “I am making Pad Thai for dinner.” I looked at her confusingly. “Dinner? Why are you making dinner this early?” My mother looked at me in an odd way, “We are having visitors today.” I groaned at the response, but before I could say anything my mom beat me to it: ”Don’t worry you know these people, just make sure you will be at your best behavior.” I nodded, and started walking towards the stairs. Before I could go upstairs my mother yelled, “They are coming at 4.” I went back upstairs to see what I should wear. I found a green flowered dress that is above my knees and paired it with some flats. I decided to get ready at 2 since they are coming at 4. I was listening to music when I started thinking about my dream, what did it mean by my past was at the door? I looked at my alarm clock to see it was 2:15 pm. I quickly got ready and by 3:50 I was ready. I went downstairs and helped my mom set up the table. Once we finished getting everything ready I heard a knock at the door. “Can you go open it, sweetie!” “Yea!” I responded and went up to open the door only to find…. Stay tuned for the following Edition to find out what happens next!

Years later I re-watched e Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman as an English speaker and realized I had understood the lm the rst time around. at was the ultimate power of Ms. Cicely Tyson. She humanized her characters in a way that transcended language barriers just because of the universality of her incredible and beautiful persona. She strongly refused to play roles that did not ful ll her vision of the right representation of black women in the world. Ms. Cicely Tyson passed away on January 28th, 2021 at the age of 96. When I heard the news, I felt a profound sadness as if I had known Ms. Tyson personally. I felt I needed to see e Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman again. And every time I see it, I unlocked something new that touched my soul and made it even more meaningful. In an interview with Gayle King, she was asked how she wanted to be remembered to which she replied, “I’ve done my best. at’s all.” Indeed, Cicely Tyson did her best.
