TWITTER WITH CHRISTINA TWITTER ADDS SCHEDULING FOR SPACES, AND REMINDERS TO ATTENDEES Twitter continues to advance its social audio Spaces tool with the addition of Spaces scheduling, enabling broadcasters to plan out and build hype around their upcoming events. Hosts can now schedule a Space for later and will receive two notifications: a 30 min reminder and a second one at the start time. TICKETED SPACES ARE COMING TO TWITTER, PROVIDING ANOTHER WAY FOR CREATORS TO MONETISE Twitter continues to ramp up its creator monetisation focus with the addition of a new option that will enable users to create ticketed Spaces events, providing another means to generate revenue from your on-platform efforts. The new process will be available via an application process, which will include signing up to Twitter’s rules around paid events. TWITTER IS LAUNCHING ITS LONG-AWAITED NEW VERIFICATION PROGRAM Last year, Twitter was planning to relaunch its verification program in January 2021, which didn’t happen. Now, the social network has been reportedly planning to finally make available its new self-served Verification Request form next week. TWITTER ROLLS OUT BIGGER IMAGES AND CROPPING CONTROL IN MOBILE APP Twitter has made a change to the way it displays images that has visual artists on the social network celebrating. In March, Twitter rolled out a limited test of uncropped, larger images in users’ feeds. Now, it’s declared those tests a success and improved the image sharing experience for everybody. Currently, the change can only be seen in the app, and it is unknown whether it will also roll out on desktop @ChristinaMc80
INSTAGRAM INSTAGRAM ADDS NEW CAPTIONS OPTION FOR VIDEO STORIES, AND SOON, REELS Instagram is making its video Stories and Reels more accessible with the launch of a new “captions sticker” that will allow users to watch without having the sound on. The addition will not only make it easier for users who are hard of hearing or deaf to engage with video content, it also offers a way for users to watch videos when they’re somewhere they don’t want to have their sound on — and either don’t want to wear or don’t have access to headphones or earbuds. PINTEREST PINTEREST INTRODUCES IDEA PINS - A VIDEO-FIRST FEATURE AIMED AT CREATORS Pinterest is expanding further into the creator community with today’s launch of a video-first feature called “Idea Pins,” aimed at creators who want to tell their stories using video, music, creative editing tools and more. The feature feels a lot like Pinterest’s own take on TikTok, mixed with Stories, as the new Pins allow creators to record and edit creative videos with up to 20 pages of content, using tools like voiceover recording, background music, transitions and other interactive elements. CLUBHOUSE After launching its Android app a week ago, social audio platform Clubhouse said on Sunday it will roll out to more countries in the coming week. The Android app will be available in Brazil, Japan, and Russia on Tuesday, India and Nigeria by Friday, and the “rest of the world” throughout the week.
FACEBOOK FACEBOOK ADDS NEW MESSAGING FEATURES, INCLUDING CHAT THEMES AND READ RECEIPTS ON INSTAGRAM Facebook has unveiled a raft of new messaging features across Messenger, Instagram Direct and Messenger Kids, with new, themed stickers and backgrounds, visual replies and read receipts on IG, improved audio recording tools and an updated archive feature. None of these new tools are ground-breaking, necessarily, but they do all add something extra, which could be helpful in your interactive process. . TIK TOK TIKTOK ADDS NEW BULK COMMENT DELETION AND REPORTING TOOLS TO HELP IMPROVE THE USER EXPERIENCE TikTok has added a new option that will enable users to bulk delete comments on their clips, providing another means to control the user experience in the app, and avoid unwanted attention. The feature is the latest in TikTok’s ongoing effort to provide more tools to protect users and improve the user experience, by giving people more ways to manage their in-app interactions. TIKTOK ADDS ANOTHER WAY TO REMIX VIDEOS WITH GREEN SCREEN DUETS TikTok has launched a new feature that combines the existing duet and green screen formats, letting people use other TikToks as the background for their own. “Green Screen Duet” now appears as an option in the duet layout menu. Like all duets, the creator of the original video is tagged in the caption of the new one.
EMILY’S BR INBOX EMILY’S TOP TIP THIS MONTH... ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION TO YOUR INSTAGRAM HIGHLIGHTS? I’ve spoken here about Instagram Highlights before, mainly how to use them and add to them. But are you thinking about how they look at the top of your account? While it’s a personal choice as to whether you’d like them branded with your logo, font, or brand colours, it’s important that they look neat and professional and add to the overall look of your account rather than hinder it. If you’re looking at your Instagram Highlights after reading this and want to change your cover photos, this is how you do it. Simply click into the Highlight itself, tap the bottom right-hand corner and select “Edit Highlight” from the menu that will appear. At the top, you can then select “Edit Cover”, you can choose a cover from the previous Stories within the Highlight, or you can click the photo icon to upload a cover that you have saved to your mobile. Remember to make sure your Instagram Highlights work with your brand, be creative and feel free to experiment! @EmilysBrainbox
AMANDA’S TOP STATS THIS MONTH... The hawk-eyed amongst you might remember a Data Davies covering the best times to post on social media. Well, as we come out of lockdown and since I wrote that piece over 7 months ago (where is time going!), I thought it worth revisiting. Thanks to the team at Sprout Social, who shared their research on the best times to post on social media for engagement. Keep in mind that it differs from when most people are on the platform; it’s when users are most likely to react, comment or share your post. Facebook – Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, between 9 am and 1 pm, are the best times to post, with Monday between 9 am and 12 pm also good. According to Sprout Social, weekends are the worst times to post. Instagram – Weekdays from 11 am to 12 pm are best for engagement with the peak as Tuesday between 11 am and 2 pm. Like Facebook, the worst times to post are weekends. LinkedIn – Tuesday to Thursday between 9 am and 12 pm are the best times to post to LinkedIn. As you would expect on a business platform, weekends don’t perform as well. (A side note that LinkedIn reported the best day to send an InMail is Monday). Twitter – Wednesday between 9 am and 3 pm is the best time to tweet, while Tuesday to Thursday between 9 am and 11 am is also a high engagement time. Again weekends don’t look great for tweets. As always, remember your business is unique. Weekends might work brilliantly for you if you are a consumer-facing business. Plus, with fewer businesses posting on weekends, there is less ‘noise’ to contend with. Experiment and use your analytics to help guide your social strategy. @AmandaJDavies01 Data Sources: HubSpot, Sprout Social, LinkedIn
