DUBOIS COUNTY ORGANIZATIONS 2018 - 2019 The following scholarship programs have agreed to use the common scholarship application. The majority have the postmark deadline of April 1. BE SURE TO USE THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF POSTAGE. When in doubt, check with the post office. 1. REGISTERED NURSE SCHOLARSHIP Sponsoring Group - Dubois Co. Voiture 813, 40 & 8 Purpose To assist students who plan to attend college for the purpose of becoming a registered nurse. Eligibility Recipient must be a graduate of a high school in Dubois County and must be admitted to a nursing program. Selection Criteria Dependents of members will be given first consideration; others will also be considered; all must show evidence of being admitted to a nursing program. Amount of Award At the present time - one, two, or three awards of $400 per year per student. Awards are renewable for a total of up to, but not to exceed 4 years of continuous education. Presentation of Award Honors Day After enrollment, a letter from the Dean of Nursing is required for each semester. Recipient will receive $200 each semester. Procedures for Using the Common Application Form Complete all parts, all items plus on the ATTACHMENTS page, include proof of acceptance into a program for training registered nurses. SCHOLARSHIP Sponsoring group Builders Association of Dubois County, Inc. Purpose To assist a dependent of member or dependent of a full time employee of a member (Or a part-time student employee of a member is eligible.) Eligibility Applicant must be a graduating senior. Applicant must be an employee of a
Builders Association member, their parent must be employed by a member, or their parent must be a member. If you have any questions on eligibility please contact Tracy Lee at 634-0091. You can also see your guidance counselor for a complete membership list. Selection Criteria Scholastic achievements, class rank, grades, leadership, extracurricular activities Amount of Award Three - $1000 scholarships Presentation of Award Scholarship checks will be made out to college or institution of higher learning of student's choice. Procedures for Using the Common Form Complete all parts, all items except in Section B - need Student Income only (#2) - no Parent Income (#1). If additional space is required on application, please attach additional sheet of paper. Do not write on back of form. Attachments should include a copy of a 7th semester transcript. A statement of 200 words or less as to why you are preparing for chosen vocation and why you are applying for this scholarship is required. A reference letter from a teacher is not needed. DUBOIS COUNTY NAVY CLUB SHIP #90 SCHOLARSHIP Sponsoring group - Navy Club of Dubois County Purpose To assist dependents of active duty or honorably discharged United States Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Personnel residing in Dubois County, Indiana, or member in good standing to further his/her education. Eligibility Graduating high school senior in Dubois County with a grade point average of 2.5 or above. Selection Criteria Scholastic achievement, financial need. Amount of Award A one-year scholarship in the amount of $250 Presentation of Award Honors Day, if possible, or notified at a later date. THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Sponsoring Group - Farbest Foods, Inc. Purpose In recognition of the important contributions made by agriculture, engineers, mathematicians, physicists, and chemists to the American manufacturing community, Farbest Foods Inc. is proud to offer scholarships to individuals in Dubois County who are interested in the pursuit of careers in these areas. Eligibility The applicant must meet the following requirements: - Be a citizen of the United States at the time of application. - Be a high school senior - Have at least a 3.5 grade point average (based on 4.0 scale) for the tenth and eleventh grades. Your GPA will be computed by the transcript submitted with the application. To qualify for these scholarships, the applicant need only to enroll in a university of the applicant's choice and pursue a specific program of agriculture, engineering, mathematics, physics, or chemistry. Selection Criteria Judging for these scholarships will be conducted according to procedures established by the donor. The criteria will be solely academic promise. Amount of Award The value of each scholarship will be $1000 per year for each year the student pursues the specific programs outlined above with a maximum of four years per student. One student from each school in Dubois County will be awarded. Presentation of Award The award will be presented by a check written jointly to the student and the college. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher to receive continued funding. MENTORS FOR YOUTH OF DUBOIS COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP Purpose To assist students pursuing a postsecondary education who have been part of the Mentors for Youth (formerly known as Big Brothers/Big Sisters) program in Dubois County. Eligibility Any senior who was a past mentee in the Mentors for Youth Program is eligible for this scholarship. GPA of at least 2.5 and good citizenship at school are criteria to be considered. Students can be attending a college, university, or technical school, in or out of state. THE AMERICAN LEGION POST #147 Purpose To assist with secondary education costs Eligibility Applicant must be a graduating senior of Northeast Dubois or Jasper High School planning to enroll in college in the fall. Amount of Award One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a NDHS student and two awards will be given to JHS students Procedure for Using the Common Application Form Complete all parts. CLAUDE AND ALMA LINE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Sponsoring Group – Old National Trust Company Eligibility Scholarships are available to students planning to study medical careers and for students who are planning to further their education for other careers, including vocational-technical areas. Amount of award The amount may vary each year and could be affected by the number of students applying from each local parish. (In 2018 a total of eleven awards were given in the county at $6000 each) Procedures for applying All parts and all attachments of the Dubois County Common Scholarship Application should be completed for the Claude Line Scholarship. Your essay for the third attachment should include why you think you deserve this scholarship. In addition to this, applicants must also include a reference letter from their church stating their affiliation/membership with that church/parish. Also, applicants are required to complete and file FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and submit a copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR) with their application. The SAR is the form received after filing the (FAFSA). It is about a 3-4 page report which assigns you an EFC # (Estimated Family Contribution). Preference will be given to families who do not qualify for state or federal aid. Submit Application Students should hand in completed applications to their guidance counselors before April 1. During a selection meeting in early May, merit & character of applicants will be discussed. Scholarship recipients will be announced at Senior Awards Banquets at each of the high schools. RALPH & ROMA JEAN STEELE ART SCHOLARSHIP Purpose To provide financial assistance for students who plan to enroll in a program leading to a degree or certification in the field of art (including art education, graphic art, or advertising fine arts). Eligibility Recipient must be a graduate of a high school in Dubois County and must be admitted into an art program at a college/university. ANN'S SOCIETY Sponsoring Group - St. Joseph Church, Jasper, Indiana Purpose To encourage a senior girl from St. Joseph Parish to continue her education. Eligibility The applicant must meet the following requirements: be a graduating high school senior Catholic girl of St. Joseph Parish, have maintained a B average during four years of high school, be considered to be of good moral character and show Christian leadership, show good potential as a student, have a financial need. HOLY NAME SOCIETY Sponsoring Group - St. Joseph Church, Jasper, Indiana Purpose To encourage a senior boy from St. Joseph Parish to continue his education. Eligibility The applicant must meet the following requirements: be a graduating high school senior Catholic boy of St. Joseph Parish, be considered to be of good moral character and show Christian leadership, show good potential as a student, have a financial need. Amount of Award Varies Presentation of Award Honors Day, sometimes later. Procedures for Using the Common Form Complete all parts, all items. DUBOIS PIKE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION Sponsoring Group Dubois Pike Federal Credit Union Purpose To assist a member of the credit union with continuing their education. Eligibility Applicant must be a senior attending Pike Central or a Dubois County high school and an active member of the Dubois-Pike Federal Credit Union. All high school students are eligible to open an account with the credit union with a $5 deposit. Selection Criteria Scholastic achievement, service activities and financial need. Amount of Award A $600 will be given to one eligible senior in each of the Dubois and Pike County high schools Presentation of Award Awards day. Scholarship checks will be made out to college or institution of higher learning of student's choice. Procedures for using the Common Application Form Complete all parts, and include all attachments. Please provide a school picture to be used in the announcement in the local newspaper.
