What is graphic medicine? • Graphic medicine is the use of comics in medical education and patient care • Dr. Ian Williams coined the term “graphic medicine” • You might also hear the term “graphic pathographies,” which are illness narratives in a graphic medium

Study 1 • Developing a Motion Comic for HIV/STD Prevention for Young People Ages 15–24 • Used a motion comic to discuss HIV/STD-related knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behavioral intentions (KABI) • Found that the intervention improved HIV/STD-related KABI • Reduced HIV stigma, while increasing HIV knowledge and behavioral intentions to practice safe sex Willis, L.
