Welcome to 2022! In STEM this month we are going to focus on engineering and coding. K-3 will be coding. Grades 4-5 will be engineering. Thank you for my gifts and STEM donations! Ms. Dawson tdawson@paulding.k12.ga.us Reading Tip: When your child reads aloud to you and makes a mistake, point out the words he has missed and help him to read the word correctly. • As your child reads, point out spelling and sound patterns such as cat, pat, hat, etc. SHOWING OUR ARTISTIC SKILLS! We have been learning about Folk Art. The students have created winter pictures that have elements of folk art while using multiple mediums to create a piece of art. The mediums that have been used are paint, chalk, pastels, markers, crayons, and pencils. The students have shown excitement for these art projects. Their final products have shown creativity and willingness to attempt a project that challenges them. If you would like to contact me for any reason my email is sgareis@paullding.k12.ga.us. 2
Welcome back New Georgia family - Happy 2022!! Hope everyone had a refreshing and relax- ing break with family and friends! In December, we wrapped up our Speed Stacking Unit and it was a HUGE success. We keep getting faster and better every year. Over the next couple months, we are going to work on overhand throwing at targets such as hula-huts, also work on bowling skills and hopefully have some time to work on some golf skills too! I am excited - I love to play golf but I am not very good at it! Haha! It's also getting close to time to start testing for our annual state mandated Fitnessgram. Kindergarten through 3rd grade will practice parts of the Fitnessgram test and become more familiar with it. Fourth and 5th graders will be officially tested. The fitness components of the test consist of muscular endurance (curl ups and flexed arm hang), muscular strength (push ups), flexibility (sit and reach), body composition (BMI based on height and weight), and aerobic capacity (PACER run). Hope you all have a great 2022! I'm so thankful for my job and the opportunity to teach these kids! mcarter@paulding.k12.ga.us Happy 2022 to all my NGES Community! I want to say THANK YOU to all my 3rd-5th grade Chorus students who performed a wonderful Virtual video re- cording for our Holiday program last month. I also want to CONGRATULATE our 6 talented ladies of the 5th grade who made the audition for Paulding County District Honor Chorus and will be performing at EPHS this coming March. (Their names are posted on the hallway window outside my classroom .) All my music students are constantly working hard at maintaining the rituals/routines for my classroom with a daily reciting and implementing of the M. U. S. I. C. Mission statement, reviewing non-verbal finger cues, allowing 3 stu- dents per class to share “Good Things” & begin the lesson with a song to sing & dance to while they play a quick round of Freeze Game. Everyone is still working on treating one another as family: “One Team, One Dream”, our annual staff theme. The 2 Marvelous Musicians chosen for each class period are excellent examples to others of how every person in the room needs to be loved and respected from using kind words and demonstrating kind actions. To start off this New Year, our students are learning about the 4 Families of Instruments: Woodwind, Brass, Percussion and Strings. The Quaver web-based curriculum has different interactive games and images to help students practice hearing and identifying the names and sounds of many types of instruments. Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade classes will be learning how to properly play simple percussion classroom instruments such as tambourines, rhythm sticks, triangles, and boomwhackers. They will understand the definition of what percus- sion means and define the difference between pitched & unpitched instruments. Here’s a YouTube.com link to demonstrate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tis9aFSdVG8 My 3rd graders will be focusing on learning about the Woodwind family of instruments, including the recorder. They will also be learning the line and space notes on the treble clef staff as well to transfer that knowledge to play on their recorder for class. Here are two YouTube.com links to review the basics about recorders and where the notes are located on the staff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiD2UYWIWmM and https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=a7K2JozRlFs Fourth & Fifth grade students will expand their previous ‘note knowledge’ of learning how to count eighth & six- teenth note rhythms to perform basic melodies on these percussion instruments: electric mini keyboards, hand drums and tubano drums. They will also identify parts of the instruments from all 4 families, recognize correct note names & values and show their performance skills playing rhythms on the staff. Here is a video link to a PowerPoint on YouTube that helps them hear and remember the orchestra instrument families: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvJDEHlisGM Musically passionate, revans@paulding.k12.ga.us
