Discover your student accommodation I really enjoyed my time in halls of residence. I made lots of friends and settled in to student life very quickly. University accommodation is ideal because it offers you a place to study, eat, sleep and socialise in safe, informal surroundings; a place where you can be at the heart of student life, but find your own space when you need it. Michael Lewis, Psychology student.

14 Your guide to accommodation Living and Guild Lettings Private sector accommodation Some applicants may not be eligible for University accommodation under our Guarantee Schemes or may not choose to live in University accommodation. Also, after their first year at the University, many students choose to live in shared housing in the private sector. Living, alongside its partners Guild Lettings, can help with finding accommodation in the private sector, including advice on likely costs, contract matters and suitable locations. They can also advise on local accommodation for students with families. Living, the University’s accommodation service, and Guild Lettings, the Guild of Students’ lettings service, work in partnership to help students find the right accommodation for them during their studies at Birmingham. Guild Lettings are the first point of call for students searching for private rented accommodation, they only work with landlords accredited with the Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme and do not charge any fees to students. The University of Birmingham private sector accommodation search facility can be found at www.birminghamstudentpad.co.uk and more information on Guild Lettings can be found at www.guildlettingsbirmingham.co.uk Key Messages p You will be required to make a £550 p You can view photos on our Flickr account p Accommodation is allocated randomly pre-payment in order to secure your – www.flickr.com/photos/livingatbham based on your preferences through room.
