    Spaceport America is located on 18,000
    acres in the Jomada Del Muerto desert
    basin in the shadow of the US Army White

    WSMR restricted airspace complex.
    Spaceport America has both vertical and
    horizontal launch complexes including a
    12,000-foot x 200-foot runway. Part of our
    tour was to drive on the runway, sit at
    mission control and manhandle all the fire
    departments equipment, as you can see
    from the photographs! The first rocket
    launch at Spaceport America occurred on
    September 25th, 2006. Ground was broken
    for the major facilities in 2009, and the first
    phase of construction was completed in
    2013. Up until 2019 there had been 301
    rocket launches from Spaceport America.
    Every year there is a Spaceport America Cup
    held in the Summer. Not been held since
    2019, due to COVID restrictions, but in
    2019, 14 countries participated, and of the
