Join us for our 25th Silver Anniversary and become a part of the Aspire Story On behalf of Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre, I invite you to be part of the 25th annual Evening of Decadent Dessert, which will be held on May 10th, 2019. For 25 years, businesses, bakers and individuals from across central Alberta have come together to support this event, which has grown into one of the largest fundraisers in our community. What once began as a humble bake sale has matured into an elegant gala with over 570 guests joining us for a special evening, featuring one of a kind cake creations. We are grateful to the Central Alberta community who have supported the growth of this event over the last 25 years. In 2018, over $145,000 was raised, and we hope to exceed this amount for our silver anniversary. Sincerely, Melissa Vine Fund Development Coordinator Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre “I have been a part of Evening of Decadent Dessert for a number of years now because I love what Aspire does for children with special needs in this community. Mostly though, I love that I can create a cake that might not otherwise be ordered by my customers. I love the freedom that this event allows me to have, I can try new techniques or themes and it’s all for a great cause!” - Tracy Irwin of Sugar by Tracy

Aspire provides hope to families. When Jake was first born we were so happy and excited. He was a healthy baby boy and everything we had hoped for. Around nine months we started to notice that he wasn’t reacting to normal sounds such as his name, the dogs barking or the doorbell ringing. We finally went in for testing at 14 months old and found out that Jake had profound hearing loss in both ears. There were so many emotions that my husband and I went through when hearing this news…will he ever hear? Will he be ok? What do we do from here? We felt very alone and unsure on where to go. Jake was referred to the Children’s Hospital in Calgary where he underwent surgery for bilateral cochlear implants at 19 months old. There have been many trips to Calgary for audiology follow ups and speech therapy. We were so excited to have Jake start school at Aspire in September 2017 with the EASE program. He has opened up so much socially, he is listening and speaking more than ever. He is a whole new kid and so happy. He is still delayed in his speech development but making “ They support not only Jake, but our “ progress every day. family too. We are so thankful to have such a wonderful program so close to us.
