SAQA ID: 96714 | NQF level: 5 | Credits: 128 | Minimum duration of studies: 1 Year Mode of delivery: Contact Learning | Language of instruction: English | Campus: Bellville, Cape Town MODE OF DELIVERY Contact-learning students will have the opportunity to meet and engage with guest lecturers who are experts from industries related to their field of study during their on-campus lectures. When choosing contact learning as your preferred mode of learning, you will be expected to attend classes on campus, as well as online. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the learning process and at the same time you will learn from the contributions of your fellow students. Contact-learning students will complete many tasks in groups, where they will experience a safe environment to hone their leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. STADIO’s campuses are vibrant communities of learning, where students can engage and socialise with students from different backgrounds. All our campuses are Wi-Fi enabled, and facilities for studying and group work are available. Student recreation areas are also provided, and an on-campus canteen providing food and beverages is easily accessible. DESCRIPTION Today’s graphic designers must know current technologies and be aware of the rapidly changing graphic design industry. Graphic and digital design classes emphasise design and creativity while providing technical skills. This programme is for students who wish to learn the basics of graphic design and be exposed to a variety of aspects. Practical exercises will assist the student in developing the skill needed to create visual layouts, using appropriate design tools and industry standard programmes. Instruction is flexible and inclusive, enabling both the beginning to intermediate student to make great strides during the year and to develop the design skills you need to produce graphics for print, advertising, corporate identity, and other media. 29 October 2020
OUTCOMES 1. Demonstrate the knowledge of the main areas of desktop publishing and computer art, including the key terms, concepts, facts, principles, rules and theories of this discipline in different contexts, areas of specialisation links between different areas of practice. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of different schools of thought, knowledge production processes, practices and forms of expression within the field of desktop publishing and computer art. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical implications of decisions and actions within the desktop publishing and computer art context, based on an awareness of the complexity of ethical dilemmas encountered. 4. Ability to evaluate, select and apply appropriate methods, procedures and techniques within the field of desktop publishing and computer art. 5. Ability to identify, analyse and solve problems in different contexts based on evidence and procedures appropriate to desktop publishing and computer art. 6. Ability to select information from different sources appropriate to specific desktop and computer art tasks, and apply well-developed processes of analysis, synthesis and evaluation to that information. 7. Ability to present and communicate complex information reliably and coherently using appropriate academic and occupational conventions, formats and technologies within desktop and computer art context. 8. Ability to make decisions and act appropriately in familiar and new desktop publishing and computer art contexts, demonstrating an understanding of the relationships between systems, and of how actions, ideas or developments in one system impact on other systems. 9. Ability to evaluate performance against given criteria, and accurately identify and address task-specific learning needs pertaining to the desktop publishing and computer art environment. 10. Ability to work effectively in a team or group, and take responsibility for own decisions and actions that include decisions and actions of others regarding the desktop publishing and computer art operations.
