Maintaining Well-Being -
A toolkit for resilience in life
Throughout our lives we experience many changes, some positive and
some more difficult to manage. However challenging the circumstances
may be, we try our best to adapt. During these times we can experience
strong emotions and a sense of uncertainty. But what gets us through?
Resilience. It means ‘bouncing back’ from difficult experiences. Resilience
is not a trait that people either have or do not have. It involves behaviours,
thoughts and actions that can be learned and that can be developed in
anyone. This talk will provide practical guidance in promoting resilience
with an emphasis on the individual nature of this journey. It will provide an
evidence-based foundation for understanding and choosing strategies and
approaches that can be used to maintain emotional well-being through
                          building resilience.

                           Facilitator: Ailíse Burke

psychological wellbeing, particularly in relation to the role of self-care,

Harvesting the Hurts
“If we do not transform our pain, we transmit it.” Richard Rohr
Using literature, writing, poetry, music, some discussion, and some gentle
exercises. This will be a small and safe look at the possibilities of reshaping
and transforming the hurts that life delivers to everyone. Looking at the
stories we tell ourselves and how we think about those stories. No one
escapes adversity. This will be a participative and gentle workshop bringing
insight (and some new ways to see the sticking points.) This workshop is
most suitable to those who have an awareness and a level of understanding
of the difficult issues in their life

 Inner Child Workshop
Our inner child lives on in our consciousness as a real force of life, a true
present moment reality. The child is the carrier of our personal stories and
the vehicles for past memories. As a way of coping with pain and needs
that weren’t fulfilled we often disconnect from the part of us that is hurting.
This happens particularly with trauma where we disassociate and become
deeply disconnected.
Many of us struggle with unspoken fear, worry and anxiety. These symptoms
show up in the body as butterflies, tensions, restrictions, and usually have
their origin in childhood experience. Whatever is repressed earlier on tends
to reappear in later life.
The main focus of this workshop is to acknowledge and validate the wisdom of the
“child within” Making this connection enables us to tap into our creative potential
to heal and to reclaim our essential essence. Using gentle techniques, learn to
create a safe inner space, a place to come home to.
Philomena believes the child self holds the key to healing, it doesn’t happen
all at once, it is a process. She believes as we all grow older it is possible to
become more and more a child at heart, more curious, spontaneous, and
playful and experience a felt sense of that vitality. Once we commit to taking
care of ourselves in this way new options emerge, we can engage with
life with more self -awareness, more vitality and trust. Join other’s on this
journey of discovery…
This two day workshop is for anyone who is interested and taking time to
explore the richness of their inner child.

Support Group for Parents of children
family and parenting 08

                           who have been sexually abused
For the past several years the Family Centre has facilitated a monthly
support group for parents who have had to deal with the reality of
their child/children having been sexually abused. The group is now
open to new parents joining their monthly support meetings. The
group meets on a highly confidential basis where parents are enabled
to support each other in a respectful way that helps to overcome the
isolation many people feel with this issue. The group is facilitated by
                          Family Centre Counsellors.

Anyone interested in attending or receiving more information about

of the themes of the service is that while your child may have died

                            Exploring the Authentic Self
‘Another bit your true self is right there buried under cultural
conditioning, other people’s opinions and inaccurate conclusions you
drew as you were growing up. These became your beliefs about yourself,
finding yourself is returning to yourself and your true nature. An
excavation, a remembering who you were before the world got its hands
                           on you-Emily Mc Dowell.’

This one day workshop is the third part of the Shame training and is
suitable for those who have previously completed Part 1 & 2. Shame
is universal, that sense of not being good enough gets layered on
through a variety of experiences within the family, school , abuse,
and trauma. Sometimes we inherit sources of shame from past
generations. Shame is unconscious and can be triggered by the most
professional training 14

unexpected events and people. Shame effects so much of our lives,
our thinking, our relationships, our body image, and our work often
resulting in a shame based identity, where we hide in the shadows.
This workshop seeks to uncover those very core beliefs, heal some of
our shame legacy and to give light to the authentic self.

scapegoating and bullying. The importance of self-esteem in
establishing and maintaining respectful boundaries and self-
control so as to avoid compensating with aggressive acting out.

fashion to achieve goals. Childhood influences and an analytical
understanding of aggressive impulses will also be acknowledged.

                             Nurturing the Soul
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground (Rumi)
This day is an opportunity to refresh tired spirits with a day of mindful
presence and attention. Whether you are a beginner or have years
of practice on the spiritual path it is always important to take time
to reconnect with the soul’s deepest longing and to experience the
                            spaciousness that comes with this.
Throughout the day we will use guided exercises, meditative practices
and sacred poetry to explore what it means be present in body, mind
and spirit, to find the sacred within the ordinary and to carry that
sense of mindful presence with us when we leave.
