CULTURAL EVENTS JULY - DECEMBER 2019 "Disturbing Narratives" - Contermporary art exhibition Date: 26 June 2019 - 8 February 2020 Venue: The Parkview Museum Singapore The exhibition features works by more than thirty artist from Europe, Asia, Africa and America who are working with completely different visual languages and media. Among them, four Italian artists (Guglielmo Castelli, Andrea Fogli, Daniele Galliano and Paolo Grassino) whose artworks were created in situ, were in attendance at the Opening ceremony on 26 June. The exhibition is curated by Loran Hegyi, the Museum's art director. "Pavarotti" by Ron Howard Date: 20 August 2019 Venue: Shaw Lido Special preview screening of the documentary "Pavarotti" by Academy Award winning director Ron Howard, organized by the cinema Shaw Lido in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Singapore. The screening has been preceeded by a cocktail reception and Art Songs performed by New Opera Singapore's promising Youth Opera singers as a tribute to one or the greatest tenors of all time. The film has been released commercially on 22nd August 2019. "Convergenze" - contemporary dance performance by E.sperimenti GDO Dance Company Date: 17 September 2019 Venue: Aliwal Arts Centre "Convergenze", the dance show choreographed by Federica Galimberti and performed by three dancers of E.sperimenti GDO Dance Company talks about the soul split between rationality and instinct in the meaning of wild, tribal, in harmony with nature. Singapore show, presented by the Embassy of Italy, was a part of the company's Asian tour.
"Everythyng is illuminated" - Photography exhibition Date: 18 - 22 September 2019 Venue: The Arts House On the occasion of Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Singapore, DZ Engineering and Dino Zoli Foundation presented the photography exhibiton "Everything is Illuminated" at The Arts House. It showcased the twelve historical and contemporary sites in Italy, illuminated by DZ Engineering, through the works of six Italian photographers (Alessandra Baldoni, Luca Gilli, Cosmo Laera, Luca Marianaccio, Lucrezia Roda and Pio Tarantini) and additionally spotlighted on certain iconic landmarks in Singapore, highlighting DZ Engineering's past lighting projects. "Suoni Italiani" - Piano solo by Danilo Rea Date: 24 September 2019 Venue: Esplanade Recital Studio Piano solo concert by Danilo Rea, one of the most famous Italian pianists in the international jazz scene, celebrated for his improvisatory imagination. The concert program covered a wide range of musical genres, such as jazz, Italian and international pop, opera arias and classical music. Presented by the Embassy of Italy in Singapore Study in Europe - Education Fair Date: 28 settembre 2019 Venue: Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre The Embassy of Italy has participated at the Fair with a stand, to promote the Italian higher education. The representatives from several universities (Bocconi University, Politecnico di Milano and Universita' Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) were in attendance. The information material of more than twenty universities were at display. The Seminar "Study in Italy" provided more specific details on study opportunities in Italy. The Fair is organized annually by the EU Delegation in Singapore.
"Decameron. Stories for a time of Plague" On the occasion of the Italian Language Week Date: 21 October 2019 Venue: Overseas Family School An evening of delight and diversion, inspired by Boccaccio's masterpiece "Decameron", with comedy, masks, songs and improvised audience interactions. Writte, directed, performed by Marco Luly of "I Luoghi dell'Arte" (Italy), storyteller Roger Jenkins (Singapore) and Sabrina Zuber (Italy/Singapore). Presented by the Embassy of Italy, on the occasion of the Italian Language Week. "Italian Design Excellence" - Design Exhibition Date: 13 - 16 November 2019 Venue: The Arts House The exhibition showcased a selection of thirteen companies which have been awarded Compasso d'Oro, ADI Design Index or have been Honorably Mentioned by Compasso d'Oro (Ducati Motor Holding, ZED Milano, Comelit Group, Florim Ceramiche, Unical, Tubes Radiatori, Vibram, Technogym, Linea Light Group, Kartell, La Cividina, Elica & Ceramica Catalano). Presented by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy and with ADI Associazione per il Disegno Industriale; Supported by the DesignSingapore Council and Singapore Furniture Industry Council. ADI Compasso d’Oro Award, established in 1954, is the oldest and most influential international design award. The nearly three hundred products awarded in more than fifty years, along with the almost two thousand products selected with the Honorable Mention, are collected and kept in the Historical Collection of the Compasso d’Oro Award, whose management was given to ADI Foundation, created for this reason by ADI in 2001. "Wine Upon a Time" On the occasion of the Italian Cuisine Week Date: 14 November 2019 Venue: Asian Civilisations Museum, Ngee Ann Auditorium A round table on the theme "What do we really know about ancient wine and its millennial journey in the Mediterranean area? Greco-Roman literature and archaelogy can provide evidence of ancient wine varietals and wine trade. New technology in genetics may help to identify the DNA signatures associated to specific known ancient cultuvars. All these information may be combined and merged in a digital humanities open access platform with GIS mapping". "Italo" by Alessia Scarso @ FamilyFest by the Bay Date: 7 dicembre 2019 Venue: Clifford Square The screening of the film "Italo" by Alessia Scarsto at the FamilyFest by the Bay, an outdoor family event with fun, sports and art activities. Luciano Maiani visits Singapore Date: 4 - 7 December 2019 Venue: NTU, NUS, CREATE Just days after Fabiola Gianotti, Italian particle physicist, has been appointed CERN Director-General for her second term for the period 2021-2025, Prof. Luciano Maiani (CERN ex Director-General, from 1999 to 2003) visited Singapore upon invitation by the Embassy of Italy. During his visit, Prof. Maiani held a series of seminars and meetings with Singaporean scientific community, numerous Italian researchers in Singapore, at NTU (Nanyang Technological University), NUS (National University of Singapore) and CREATE (Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise).
